I don't how many times this can be said. We're buying Martinez to play centre back. Maybe he'll play the odd game at CDM but ten Hag clearly prefers him at centre back and has said so publicly.

I didn’t know he was fluent in English. That’s great to see and will help him settle.

Everything about him just screams Marcos Rojo 2.0

Left footed Argentinian centre back who loves to fly into challenges, plays with ‘passion’, is suspect aerially, loves a shot from distance and has a decent pass on him. Just hope he can make toast a bit better.

Because I think we have better quality at CB and no one to play CDM. And we will need one. Regardless where he starts, I sincerely hope he does great for us. And this supposed fight he brings is something we often lack.
I see. Well we don't have a centre back anywhere near as good as him on the ball, or left footed to boot. Besides, Varane can't seem to stay fit. Just because we need a CDM doesn't mean we should shoehorn a player in there when his strengths lie elsewhere. Agreed on his fighting mentality being a big benefit.

I think he'll become a cult hero if the Ten Hag era is successful. We need mentality as much as we need any specific position.

I am more worried about how good his defending will actually be, and as a full package we are yet to see what and how much of an improvement he will be on our current options. Let’s just hope he adapts quickly, the rest will come down to the team needs after all.

Looking forward to seeing him play. Can't really say I'm excited but Ten Hag considers him a 'warrior' and that is a good sign.
I’m super excited. Reason being we have a left footer playing out from the back on the left side. I bet a lot of people will be surprised how much of a difference it makes. The outward passes to the fullbacks curve to their feet away from pressing defenders. It seems so obvious and benign, yet it makes a massive difference. Add to that Martinez is brilliant on the ball and is press resistant, and you have a remarkable change in buildup tempo. Can’t wait to see it in action personally

You make a good case. Hopefully he makes the step up.

57 mill?. Must put him in the top 5/6 of CB's transfer fees. Who went for more? Maguire, Hernanez, Van Dijk, De ligt to Juve were more then De ligt to Bayern and Diaz were around the same price 60 ish. Dude must be good.
