Still remember when everyone swore Alex Telles was the answer at left back because he scored some set pieces and long shots in the Portuguese league.

Haha I can raise my hand and say I was very exciting by his first cameo with us. I remember at least two corners that were delivered perfectly with pace right to a dangerous area, and I got giddy with the possibilities of Slab Head wracking up double digit goals.....

Alas, I think that match was the last time Telles took a decent corner.

Another one of ole's great signings, where would be without his brilliant transfer business..
I remember everyone being very excited about it at the time. He had a great reputation for set pieces and assists, and gave Shaw a much needed kick up the arse.

It's unfair to dig at Ole in hindsight.

Telles really hasn't been that bad. Mean left foot made a fine back-up to Shaw. Should have only been a fill-in player but had to play more games because Shaw is so unreliable.

He was woeful, probably wouldn’t start for any of the PL teams.

Should really review how much we pay fringe players who are not bought for their potential, as he’s got the deal of a lifetime from United that no one else will match.
Yeah definitely needs looking into

Key points:

Good to see Luckhurst say what we’re thinking about the purported alternatives like Tielemans or Neves. It really is Frenkie or bust.

Journalists actually do read forums and copy our thoughts.

We were desperate to be fair as Williams just wasn't good enough and Shaw couldn't stay fit. Ironically I think most posters would rather watch Williams at LB than Telles now.

It was typical caf reaction of over hyping a player's positives that we are in for when it was clear telles was not a good left back and at best was a passable wing back in a inferior league, was he even Porto's main left back?

He was clearly no better than Williams and whilst it is well and good to say in hindsight it may have not been a good signing but isn't that the point to ole's signings in hindsight most have flopped and that is what seperates great managers from the mediocre ones as they make good signings for the long term not ones that play good just for a honeymoon period, any youth player can have that same type of impact and him giving shaw a kick up the backside for a few months does not make money well spent.

Pretty sure plenty were drooling over Telles at the time. Probably the same people who thought Williams was better than Shaw.
Especially considering the fee, Telles was totally worth the gamble. Didn't work out, fair enough, no hard feelings and farewell

Who is Ben Jacobs?
Don't think it matters in this case.

It's an interview with Laporta which you can watch a video of right there. It's as direct a source as it's possible to get. The guy conducting the interview doesn't add or subtract any credibility to the quotes.

Tom Huddlestone :o I remember him getting his breakthrough at Spurs by essentially replacing Carrick after we bought Carrick.

He had some really adept passing skills but injuries fecked it up for him. My Spurs mate dreaded that ‘THudd’ would end up getting poached by us. Hope he can impart his passing skills to our academy boys because they’d all be pass masters.

Would have been worth the gamble had we not quadrupled his wages and now can’t get rid. He should have been a easy player to shift had we not put his salary so high.

I hope that if we do get De Jong we do some more business. Squad still leaves a lot to be desired

He got lazy Shaw moving again for sure, at least for a little while. Hopefully Malacia is the answer. Shaw sure is not.

Alex Telles to Sevilla is practically DONE, only his medical and details of the loan contract are missing.

Haha, practically done apart from the medical and the loan agreement.
