He would be brought in as a 3rd choice striker (behind Ronaldo & Martial) - would he really be that bad?

My only concern is, are the extra few goals worth bringing that personality into the dressing room?

I reckon this is because they expect Greenwood back at some point this season, I hear some rumours it's going to be pushed under the carpet being "role play".

So if he's coming back mid season, why not have a bigger cnut to take the spotlight off him for a couple of months
I mean I'm not sure doubling (or tripling) down on the number of cnuts you have at the club is a good idea from a PR perspective. It then becomes less about the individual and more about the club.

We should be absolutely nowhere near this and whoever suggested it needs to give their head a serious wobble.

Lot of top teams looking to address the striker position this window - City got Haaland, Liverpool got Darwin, Arsenal got Jesus. Not to be outdone, we’re looking at…Arnautovic

If that were to happen I'd be done with this club. No exaggeration, it'd be too much

But one of those is a 38 year old and the other a crock. There's a good choice he'd see a lot of minutes.

Even ignoring the obvious morality issues of this, surely he can’t ever be the same player again? Purely from a football point of view, I mean.

He's not been out that long, and in theory could have stayed fit by himself, opposed to suffering a long injury, for example. It was a crucial stage in his development, so that could be an issue, but just the time spent out of the game shouldn't be that problematic

If he does come back, I doubt if he is match fit --- away from the game for so long. I suspect that he would be loaned out to ease him into it and get match sharpness back again -- plus let the United fans get used to him playing again.

At the start of last season, Manchester United had Ronaldo, Cavani, Martial, Greenwood for the striker position (Greenwood could also play on the right though)

Greenwood is gone
Cavani is gone
Ronaldo wants to leave
Martial was judged surplus to requirements and sent on loan to Sevilla in January. This loan was rather unsuccessful

Logically, I think United should have looked for a cheap experienced CB to get in the team when Varane is unfit and spend 60M or more on a new striker.

That'll never happened - and rightly so.

Whitwell has been the main insider this summer so for him to go against the club in such a manner just says it all.

The grand plan after 3 months of the summer window is Rabiot and Aurnatovic…its been bad over the past 10 years but bloody bell we’re entering new lows here.

Maybe it's just better to make a heel turn as a club? Play up being the villain - the Lazio of English football.

Ours fan would definitely fit into that role

It didn't really surprise me -- he is a 100+million quid asset. You don't just throw that away.
I'm thinking similarly, I'm very torn on this, though. Football fans in general are idiots and will quickly forget, the dude at Arsenal barely got a mention the other day, but would we as fans really want that at United?

Anyway, think we're derailing this cnuts thread with stories about another cnut

I heard it on some United podcast last week -- cant remember who mentioned it, Laurie or one of the United journos. Wasnt some fan-based podcast.
I don't believe this is true. If Laurie Whitwell had reported that Manchester United expect Mason Greenwood to return, that news would have spread like wildfire. I think you've muddled up where you get your info from.

Humans love forgiving and redemption. 90% of Hollywood movies are based on that theme.

United will run a PR campaign to soften his image and he will come on MUTV and beg for forgiveness and letting down the parents, the girl and most of all the United family incl the fans.

Then go on loan for a season or so -- and you will see him donate his time to the NGOs for abuse victims/spouses etc. That will be in his IG, newspapers etc.

Then in 18months time, he makes his 2nd debut for United.

He will be barely 22 then. And when he scores 20+ goals in his 2nd coming, all will be forgotten.

Nobody dares to touch the subject matter since its a legal issue. It was mentioned in passing when someone asked the journo what he thought was going to happen to Mason. Its either one or two of a United podcast that I subscribe to.

Not a fan-based one for sure nor United's 'Debate' podcast

Greenwood won’t play for this club again, everyman and his dog knows that. We’re not like certain other clubs who would player characters like that. I’m looking at you north london.

All will be forgotten by you maybe. Not by those of us who have principles

I can't stand people who are willing to overlook vile, nasty and even criminal behaviour just to support a football club. Which I guess is a fitting thing to be saying in a thread regarding a racist who we may be signing

As an Austrian I always liked him as some kind of national Hero/Antihero. Despite being not the most clever or mature person he brings a bit entertainment factor to the table which makes slightly less boring watching our national team play.

For United it is a big fat NO from my side though. I agree with everyone who says that this signing would tell you everything there is to know about our ambitions. The definition of underwhelming.

Now we're really going off rails, but fans still adore George Best, were all about Giggs until he went to prison and willfully ignored the complete Ronaldo/US disaster. Football support is a tribal thing

The shocking part is that ETH thinks he is a character our dressing room needs as he said something like that.

It's all getting bit like that Arteta, Andre Santos, Benayoun, Mertesacker Arsenal window
When you think about it, that 8-2 tonking we dished out had massive consequences for their future. They’d probably have a competent manager now if we hadn’t made them panic buy Arteta.

If we dont get our midfield sorted with a top DM all teams will cut through us like a knife through butter. Another big hole left in Midfield yesterday.

Plus I was neighbors and tennis/drinks mates with an ex-united/England winger. The stories he used to tell of what went on! They would all be jailed in these current times.

People are just being naive or feel the need to hero worship and need their heroes to be whiter than the pope. I rather be a cynic and be real about the lies or manipulation that goes on.
