No fire, I never get the feeling he is going to change the momentum of a game. If it going well and the team are on top he looks good, as soon as it is tough he has consistently vanished from games. He gets an easy ride given how poor his performances have been.

But what does he do when he actually does get the ball? Does he have a lethal shot? Does he have insane vision like an Ozil?

I don't see how you can play in a forward line for a top 4 club and not have any attacking weapons.
I know it’s not an excuse but that’s why I’ve always felt Martial plays better with the likes of Sancho because they complement each other better than Ronaldo. I’ve just never seen Sancho have any kind of link play with Ronaldo. But like we saw in preseason, Sancho and martial have many good passages of football.

Still waiting to see what the hype was about. What does he even do? Can't shield the ball, rarely beats a man, constantly passes back, doesn't get into good positions in attack, has the upper body strength of a kitten.

Feel a bit sorry for him and Ronaldo. They have no idea what they got themselves into.

Over hyped, over paid and over here. Should be shown the door immediately. Hottest day of the summer and this guy never broke a sweat. Take 10 m from Newcastle and let him go.

 utter joke that you actually put his name with Ronaldo. Completely baffled why anyone would feel sorry for some on 300k+ a week and literally does feck all for it. Would understand the sympathy if he was playing out of his skin but he does nothing.

Okay, I never post in Player threads as it gets unnecessarily toxic at times but I will make this exception.

I just don't see it with him, unfortunately. People say he's the most talented attacker we have in the club, but what I see is a player with the intensity and strength of melting butter. Run-of-the-mill wingers like Traore or fecking ASM at least have the intensity and drive to keep defenders honest, I bet Rico Henry didn't have to break a sweat today while Sancho was on the pitch. It took Elanga coming on to get their left side under a bit of pressure, something our 72M pounds man couldn't manage to do in the 70 minutes he played for. Shocking performance and a disappointing United career so far. I wonder if he can mentally recover from being snubbed for the world cup this year given how mentally fragile he and others in the squad have shown themselves to be.

Wasn't that the case with Greenwood and Rashford as well? I don't think it's just Sancho who benefits playing with a more involved striker like Martial. But at Rashfords best he had so much more going for him.

Put him in the 19/20 forward line and he'd make them worse.

why won't he try to take somebody on?
The truth is he doesn’t have the acceleration or burst of pace to do it. He’s not as quick as some believe. That’s why he doesn’t have the confidence to take someone on as he doesn’t have it in him to burn a defender. Unless he can play one twos or fool a defender with a trick, he can’t get past a defender.

He’s pretty useless out wide. Should maybe try him more centrally as he doesn’t have the ability nor physicality to beat his man.

Cause he can't. He doesn't have the the Iniesta like ability to beat the defender with quick footwork, and criminally for a winger he doesn't have the pace to make up for that.

I got conned by this guy, i admit.

I thought he was an individualistic, fast and tricky winger. Turns out he is absolutely not one.

He is team player and no more. Needs 1 or 2 players to support him all the time to pass it around the defence.

So why did we buy him, We must have known he didn't have the pace to succeed in the premier league?

Not surprised, always felt that he would need to be in a good team to look good. He is not a special player to change games on his own.

We signed him because he was English and he was doing well. I don't think anyone at the club looked beyond that and the fact that they believed we needed a RW (we had a much better one on hand, until Greenwood did what he did).

Next time City let a player go or walk on from a player, we should take a hint. First Sanchez, Maguire and now this.

He is looking more and more like an example of hyped players that we should not sign.

I hate that he disappeared in games like these. We have to rely on 'generational talents' to get out of these situations.

Never realized just how slow he is.

He lacks effort, lacks strength. Seems scared to show for the ball, take anyone on and not sure where we go with him.

When he gets the ball he always has 2-3 players around him. He beats 1 player but then has to beat another few players before having shot on goal. We don’t have 2-3 players supporting each other. We are really worst team in terms of cohesion. We don’t really play as a team. Not sure where is the problem , coaching , mentality ?

It's because he has talent but have been mismanaged. You cannot be your best surrounded by dross.

I have always to check on livescore.com if he is on the pitch or not, a ghost physically inexistent

Elanga better than him, more powerful

People say this too much.

They also said it was because of style of play..

The fact is he's slow, can't beat a man from a standing start, and that severely limits you in the PL. I said as much before we signed him, you could see the same at Dortmund.

Our scouting is just absolutely terrible.

Just no. His "talent" would be at least semi apparent but he fits in with the dross, does nothing defensively, offensively or just in general. Definition of a nothing player atm.

He has talent but lots of flaws, we’re nowhere near good enough to accommodate players like him, too much of a luxury.

Hard to disagree with that sentence.

All I know is that Dortmund seem to score a huge number of goals of a type that you very rarely see in the PL. We've bought Kagawa, Mkhitaryan and now Sancho; all on the assumption that they can get those goals + assists in the PL. The first two didn't work.

It seems like a fundamental misunderstanding of where the space is in different leagues and the impact this has on the skill-set required to hurt defences.

Jesus and Sterling are doing fine.
City already squeezed as much as they could from Sterling these last years, not like they were missing on something by selling him. They got what they wanted from him and sold him when good money come. Great business. Different from letting Sancho go from the academy then not fussed about wanting to sign him back.
