I fully expect a response from the team against Liverpool on Monday night.

If the unthinkable happens, and players put in another crap showing, then it will be the beginning of the end for our Dutch manager.
what do you mean unthinkable? Anything other than a crap showing would be out of the norm at this point. A crap showing is within normal expectations

It's the biggest game of his United tenure, and if he can't get a response from them after the dreadful performances in his first two competetive games in charge, then he simply won't be the right man for the job.

I know, it's incredible.

It's worse than it was under Ole and Rangnick - and that's saying something.

He's had two strikes, if he can't rally the troops on Monday, then that's 3 strikes that I don't see him recovering from.

Losing to Liverpool should not be the end of his tenure. Even with reinforcements I'd half expect that to happen.

That implies that there's somebody out there who could do it. There probably isn't, so there's no sense wondering if ETH is "the right man for the job."

And most certainly not after two games. Anyone questioning his qualifications after two games is completely out of their mind.

You think supporters want Erik to be sacked?

It's not about what we think, it's about this disgraceful group of players. Hate to tell ya but sadly they have the power to get him sacked anytime they want. Lose against Liverpool and it's a clear sign they have already thrown him under the bus.

My opinion is that they already have. They do not like his intensity in training being a bunch of lazy bastards they can't handle it. I'm 100% sure you watched the game against Brentford. You simply cannot tell me that was a group of players playing for their manager.

I'm not asking for a win, I'm asking for a response i.e. for the players NOT to fold and give up.

We all know Liverpool are the better team, and no-one disputes that.

I want to see the players give their all and have pride in wearing the shirt.

If Erik ten Hag can't manage this set of players into a response after those two shambolic performances, then he's not the right manager.

Their attitude has been shite for years. They've thrown several managers under the bus. What makes you think they won't do that again?

1) They only have the power if they are given it. Empower this manager to feck them off, play some kids and boo the feck out of this dross.

2) I am not for a minute suggesting they were playing for him on Sunday. Elanga, Malacia, Varane and Martinez looked up for it, Garnacho and Hannibal look up for it whenever. Start with them on your team sheet and work out from there.

You seen what efffect Conte had on Tottenham? Basically took them from the dead back into top 4. Ask yourself if he would have the same effect here... We all know he wouldn't. This group of players would bitch and cry and have him axed before the season even ended.

I'm so far pissed of at ETH too for chosing to play so many of those said players but I would take a mid table finish right now if that meant he opened his eyes and got rid of them all.

What counts as a reaction? What is "unthinkable"? At least in the short term, I think you need to adjust your expectations.

This United team is *not good.* Their confidence is *non-existent.* Liverpool has stumbled, but you are getting ready to go up against what is a perennial title contender and one of the best teams in Europe. Judging him based on his result here would feel tremendously unfair. It would be like yelling at a novice cycler for losing a race to prime Jan Ulrich.

There's a way back for you guys if you rebuild the right way - and I hope despite your terrible owners you can do it. The league is more fun when United are good. But you have to start from the here and now, which is very, very, bad. Basing your evaluation of ETH on perhaps his most difficult challenge when he is only two games in is not going to help things

I agree with #1 but you know it's not like that with these owners. On your second point I've been saying all along that he should give the chance to new players but he himself chose to play dross like McFred, Rashford, Shaw, Dalot and so on...

Annoying meme sloganeering like "Clean Slate FC" aside. There was enough during Pre-Season to suggest that even with just one or two clever additions, that this lot could be better for the course of this season.

Proper football has come back and I think that ten Hag has entirely underestimated the effect it would have, which I don't put all the blame on him for, he can't legislate for this group to collectively shitting the bed in the way they have done in these first two games based on what he has seen over his first 7-8 weeks on the training pitch with them.

So yeah, first game comes and goes, makes a change or two for the second game and then they shit it again, now we come into the Liverpool game and he has a choice to make.

Throw the youngsters to the lions, or hang this lot out to dry Infront of a crowd that is already going to be pissed off at the owners and let the crowd tear the players a new one.

OR, this (mostly) sad bunch of cnuts finally front up and give a performance and we end gameweek 3 ahead of Liverpool and some of the heat is directed there way as we approach deadline day.

If we lose to Liverpool and don't start to see some new players.coming in, either from transfers or youngsters, then I am going to start getting impatient.

Considering several senior players - Ronaldo and Bruno amongst them - went to the board to back him in the transfer market, he's very clearly got the team onside.

The club is going to go into panic mode at that point and I don't even want to think about what happens then. I can 100% imagine they would get rid of him quickly to bring in Poch. I actually believe this because nothing from them surprises me.

I really don’t buy this BS about ETH risking all this time on FDJ, in fact we know it’s not true because we tried to sign Rabiot and God knows who else. That’s just bull that is! ETH has had just six weeks to prepare and at a time when the club sacked the most important personal in the scouting department. ETH has been left in an impossible position in terms of the short term player recruitment and no manager in the world can turn a bad player in to a good one.

Actually glad we didn't get Poch. With ETH there's no room to call the manager's quality into question like there was with Rangnick. We now know the squad is just poorly built and our football department is clueless for backing it. Squad is one of the worst rebuild jobs we've ever seen.

Not if they want a riot on their hands, the fans aren't going to let the club off the hook if they manage to get someone like ten Hag fired.

Ole there was always the "feel good" factor that when extinguished, his short comings that a lot of us knew were there, became very visible. So there was an easy plausible deniability for the club to hide behind.

Rangnick virtually wrote the blueprint on modern club building and had a hand in a small tactical revolution, the respect amongst his peers is clear and some fans were fooled into thinking even he was a cretin by the end of his tenure here. But his assesments have since been proven correct and a lot of the fall out from his time here looks more and more favourable to him.

Erik ten Hag was one of the hottest coaching properties in all of Europe, who was supposed to come in and we all understood that he would be backed properly with a new, competent football structure and be given the time required, if they try to ditch him before the end of the first window, there will be hell on.

Even the most inspirational managers like Shankley and SAF would struggle to get a response from our current dross; you cant make a silk purse out of a pigs ear! If these players cannot lift themselves to perform against our greatest rivals then they are not fit to wear the United shirt. Klopp will most certainly get a response from the Liverpool players and if our team wish to escape utter annihilation and humiliation they have got to fight and work for the full 90 minutes plus. If Liverpool get an early goal, which is becoming a regular occurrance with us, there may be no way back, but still the players have to fight and show some pride.

Yes, happy to prove my point. Cheers.
Having limited targets where even the media couldn't make a lot of them up to link back then and now linking everyone and their dogs is actually proving my point that both him and the club had no idea how to build a squad.

ETH deserves the full support of the directors and coaching staff, sacking him without giving him adequate time and appointing what I think would be a 9th manager since SAF, including temps, would do nothing but make our problems greater. And Poch is definitely not the answer; not now, not next season, not ever.

Whilst it is of course silly that his job might be under threat after three games, these things tend to snowball. If he loses his first three games (or more) then it's simply inevitable that the faith of the club's "leadership" in him is going to be shaken a bit. The doubts start creeping in about whether they've brought in the wrong man. It could end up influencing what transfers they're willing to sanction late in the window, which will in turn lead to more difficulty for Ten Hag. Do we spend £70m on a player for this guy we might be sacking in a couple of months if things don't improve? We saw with Rangnick that the upper management had already given up on him by January and refused to even consider bringing in a new striker, despite the list of targets he gave them including Luis Diaz and Julian Alvarez, either of whom the club would kill to sign now. I don't know if they were ever realistically going to join United with Liverpool and City sniffing around, but the fact that they were allowed to sign them without a fight is what stings, especially when the club is now left looking at people like Arnautovic and a 36-year-old Jamie Vardy in a desperate bid to sign anyone at all. Granted, there were other considerations with Rangnick only being in charge until the summer and a new manager coming in with his own targets, but at the time Rangnick was supposed to be the man who was going to shape the club's footballing strategy over the next several years. That's what he was allegedly brought in for, and yet within six weeks it was all torn up and we're back to another summer of no clear transfer strategy, failure to land key targets and being left scrabbling around in the bargain bin late in the window.

Kind of got away from the point there, but it's ultimately all linked. The constant shifts in direction and (lack of) planning, with seemingly no clear goal in mind. The club losing faith in Ten Hag, their man, THE man who was going to rebuild the club in their minds six months ago, after their failure to properly support him would possibly be the least surprising thing to ever happen. Well, perhaps second to Pochettino being brought in to replace him and being expected to fix everything. I'm sure that'll go well, should it happen.

I don't understand these reports about Ten Hag wanting x amount of players.

Why does anyone actually think we will sign anyone?

It is quite clear how this window has gone, the aim of the club is to fool us and Ten Hag.

Go after Antony and De Jong, brief that we done all we could to sign them, not sign them and say they wanted to back the manager and not get 2nd choice signings.

It was reported early in the window that without CL we will have a 50m spend, we have reached that and the club are trying to buy time for the window to close.
This club is need of resuscitation because under these leeches it's slowly dying year by year

Rubbish. It took Fergie a while to get to grips with the job. ten Hag is very well regarded as a manager, unlike Ole and Rangnick. Can we stop feeding into the negativity about ten Hag seeing as we're literally 2 games in, ffs.

YES…it would be three games…we’ve played 2. I think Fergie lost his first two games if I remember correctly. The panic that has induced talking about already sacking a new manager, implementing a new system, with the previous regime’s players…is getting absolutely mad on here. He’s not getting sacked this season unless we are in a legitimate relegation battle towards the end of the season…and…spoiler…that ain’t happening.

You think supporters want Erik to be sacked?
Depends what you mean by “supporters”.

There are plenty of posters in this thread who would love to see him fail. Jose fans; Ole fans; Poch fans; Conte fans; Ronaldo fans. That’s just for starters. If De Gea gets dropped, his fans will join in (for example).

Some of the concerns that have been expressed about his stubbornness and naïveté are reasonable, though I don’t particularly share them. Plenty of posts are from people who are overtly hostile to him though. It doesn’t take much effort to check their posting history to see where their allegiances lie.

We should go with 5 at the back against Liverpool and park our bus. Anything else will be setting us up for yet another shit performance.

Heaton
Dalot - Varane - Martinez - Maguire - Malacia
Fred - Scott
Eriksen
Ronaldo - Martial
That looks like a bad skit happening with yakkety sax playing in the soundtrack. How about the defense set up how they've been practicing for months now -- the setup where they know what each other will do?

His choice not to sign any forwards, not to sign a keeper and not to sign a RB too I take it.

His choice to let Liverpool sign Nunez too I take it
So far ETH has failed to land his priority transfers, like De Jong, but is that his fault? Every other Prem club was concluding transfer business before we even started knowing that the next season would start earlier due to the World Cup; also, Manchester United is no longer an attractive proposition for top players who want Champions League football, and thats not ETHs fault either. Plus hes stuck with a squad the vast amount of whom dont really care and dont try. On the other hand I think his team selections against Brighton and Brentford left much to be desired, and his late, late substitutions v Brighton were hard to fathom. And then theres his decision to stick with De Gea, a great 'keeper but not one comfortable in coming off his line or with the ball at his feet; Henderson would suit the style ETH wants us to play far better. If we can offload the players who are either simply not good enough or are not prepared to try and replace them with players who actually want to play, ETH Im sure will come good, but it will take time.

The guys not only working with a squad of players who, mostly it seems, dont give a damn, he has a board of directors and such who are giving him no help at all. If he did decide to "walk away etc" I wouldnt blame him.

The majority of fans can see where the real problem is (the owners/club structure) and attach little criticism to EtH. I doubt that would change even if he lost the next 5 games because we know the problems he's inherited and that this summer has been an utter sh*tshow by the board.

The talk of him being sacked though is not a reflection on him as a coach but more about what would happen if we were near the bottom of the league in the next 8 games or so. Would our ridiculous owners fire him, bring in someone in quick to steady the ship, and abandon the project entirely? Would he himself quit and walk away? All bets are off unfortunately and the next 5 or 6 games look pretty brutal for a team in such obvious disarray.

I'm hoping for a turnaround against Liverpool but there's probably not another team in the league that opponents would rather face at the moment than us.

Managers haven’t been the problem for the last 7 years. Unfortunately though I can foresee ETH not lasting long because of the cnuts up stairs and the players not giving a feck
