Big clubs around Europe conducting their transfer planning meetings:
"We need to replace [Player A], he's the wrong side of 30 and it's starting to show."

"We should sign [Player B], he's only 22 and has many of the same traits that we can develop."

"How are we going to afford that? He'll cost 50m"

"Easy. We just get someone to buy [Player A] for 70m"

"But who would be that stupid"

"Somebody find me a fax machine".

At this point we are just looking to sign anyone to appease fans and ETH from losing the plot.

I’ll rather we look elsewhere.

One of the things that game me positivity about Ralph buildup was when he said we need to identify players that are making a step up to the top level. At best we get 1 season of settling in and 1 good season then decline. Like Matic.

Time is of the essence, not a moment to waste. Let’s chase old, expensive and/or unattainable players!

Ah yes, this will end up being our annual stock price signing. Unfortunately it really doesn’t seem like anything has changed regarding how this club is being run.

He's fallen in the pecking order with the likes of Tchoumani and Camavinga stepping up. He's too old to command a big fee, would take him on the cheap though.

Unfortunately he's almost certainly coming. Madrid have already signed his replacement for 100m and 100m euro players don't play on the bench. This is probably their last chance to get big money for him. As for Casemiro himself, I'm sure he understands and knows the writing's on the wall and knows this will be his last chance to get a mega contract from somewhere so he'll reluctantly accept it.

Another old, makeshift stop gap signing who isn't a perfect fit in possession for us though and just emblematic of the problem with this regime.

The protests on Monday are going to be huge.

I really thought that this week they'd go all out to try and make a couple of good signings, I was convinced FDJ would be one. But alas here we are. Throwing all kinds of shit at the wall and praying that some of it sticks

He's still the best DM in europe, if we can get him we should absolutely do it. Stop gap or not he's the 'Best in Class'

Make shift stop gap? 30 year old Casemiro, the best CDM in world football?

The strange thing is that if we did get him I'd be concerned. A red flag about why Madrid would sell him so late in the window and a red flag about why he would even entertain moving to United. This won't happen anyway as it just doesn't make any sense.

You could say this about any player from any club being transfered to any club. So let's just not buy anyone eh?

Add him to the pile I suppose. This window just goes from embarrassment to embarrassment.

No Chance. For gods sake what's going on with our transfers. Haven't heard of anyone sine Martinez who is a genuinely true target, and we all know how long it takes to get them over the line.

I think people writing off a 30 year old midfielder are being very premature. A mid 30’s Scholes and late 30’s Giggs were many levels above what we have currently. Also take a look at Luca Modric- probably in the top 5 players in the world last season and is nearly 37.

All that aside, there’s zero chance he ends up at United

If we get the best defensive midfielder in the world as a stop gap thats surely a good thing?

I'm exaggerating but more so that it would be such a confusing transfer that I'd be dubious over all aspects of this potential move. I don't think United, let alone Madrid think this has a decent chance of happening.

I hope to god this is just paper talk bullshit and we're not wasting a second on this one.

Even if he was available AND he wanted to come (already huge stumbling blocks), Madrid would want north of £50m, which is too much I'd say.

Has Murtough started Woodwards old FM save from 2016.?

This club continues to make a fool of itself. No direction at all when talking about recruitment. What an utter joke.
I would have guessed they signed a good player or two, to take the worst heat out of the demostrations on Monday. Are they actually that stupid, that they think we will stop this, due to rumors about two good players.? No chance for us to sign them. Why on earth are the leaders of this club so clueless.

It's more of a case of players being offered to us than anything

Yeah, who wouldn't exchange their 5-time Champions League winning side with a team that gets dominated by Brentford.

I dont get why any United fans are even thinking this is remotely true?

We can barely get a player who is not wanted by his club, the fans think the board can get a player that doesnt want to come.

Its not like we have spent 3 months trying to get another player from Spain who doesnt want to come, when Barca wanted to sell.

He started vs Eintracht and did not vs Almeria in a game for which Ancelotti rotated heavily and changed more than half the team.

Tchouameni and Camavinga did not play well vs Almeria by the way.

Rotation seems the right logic for a season with a WC in the middle of it. This should make Madrid more interested in keeping him rather than the opposite.

Casemiro and Felix?

We wouldn’t attract those 2 even with CL football, never mind being rock bottom of the league and the club in disarray.
Casemiro and de Jong would still be better considering our squad. That said, if we can get Felix we need to grab him as well with both hands :D
