Noise on this looks dead.

I think after Anthony we're done, Ronnie staying as well

Unsure if true, but would be as insane as this all Barca summer.
The commentator during their game this evening suggested Laporta put his own money as a guarantee, valid until the close of the transfer window, while they wait to do further business. As of course his money wouldn't count in Barca's accounts. Not sure how that works, but that's what was said.

It was reported Frenkie and Dursun want their money from Barca. They want Barca to pay- nothing has changed in that regard. As soon as they pay him I still feel he would move. Just depends if we are still first in the queue, or even in the queue at all.
Yeah but by now that would sound like a load of nonsense if he intends to leave - it getting done whichever way would then be the priority.

If he wants out, the big red rescue button needs to be pressed soon.

The true destiny of Dutch midfielders
He is happy emulating DVdB's career path. But with nicer climate.
Only way us as United fans can get a bit schadenfreude joy out of this is if LvG drops him from the Dutch starting 11 if he doesn't play consistently.

We, of course, know he won't do that because he just hates United

Even worse for the money wanted. Better player than Tielemans obviously but do we need a deep lying playmaker? A player whose main existence has been staying behind the halfway line. Gets a good goal and everyone thinks he is prime xavi again.
He has been carrying that Wolves team this season, and playing very very well while doing it.

I watched the last 30 min of the Barca game and my focus was on him, wanted to see how he performs.

I don’t know if it’s just his style, but he looks like he doesn’t care too much. Didn’t track back, just played it simple, a passenger. Not saying that this means something such as saving himself for transfer, but something is going on with him. Maybe all the things that have happened have affected him. Barca fans here who have seen him the previous years can comment.

Has lvg come out and told de jong he won't start if he's not playing regular first team football yet?

If you saw him when he came on vs Rayo, he looked like a man on a mission but tonight we we're already 3-0 up when he entered and the other players were in energy conserving mode, wouldn't read much into it.

As for his performances over the previous years, it's hard to gauge as for sure he hasn't played his favored position: the double pivot. In the 433 he has proven many times he can't play the Busquets role and he isn't effective enough going forward - final pass being very inconsistent - to play as an interior. I think the club saw of him as a Busquets replacement but it's more than clear now he is only really effective in a double pivot unless he changes his style of play. Many on here have overrated him as a midfield savior and I honestly think he would struggle with the PL intensity.

My current POV right now. But I think ETH would be able to make it work, especially with Casemiro acting as his shield.

I wonder if our goal of 2000 pages is not enough for Frenkie because it doesn't contain his favourite number. Maybe we should be going for 2021/221x/2100 pages!

Doubt it, United can spend 200m next summer too
The only way that's happening is if we get sold.

Look into our finances. We were buying Arnautovic and Rabiot until we decided to buy big on tick. Zero chance we spend big next summer if the Glazers are still here.

Glazers need to invest heavily and I think they will, the Premier league money is huge and uniteds revenue is too

We’ll be lucky to see 2000 with the absolute dearth of news on this one at present. It’ll be pretty dramatic if anything happens now. Certainly a fitting way for Murtough to round out his first window.

Well if we can't lure him with Champions League Football next summer then safe to say nothing more we can offer

While I understand that he deserves to get his money, I still find it strange that a player of his calibre is content with a bench role in what should be his peak years. Moreover, without regular football he'll lose form and value. That's assuming he'll be treated nicely by the fans, which isn't guaranteed considering they're forced to borrow from Laporta now to register players. People shit on United but at the end of the day it's a great prestigious club that pays top wages. Your career is going nowhere if you're watching your club play CL football from the bench.

How long do you reckon it would take to get it
Who knows?

I still think they will keep trying to get rid of him. God knows what’s in their minds just now. I presume they thought we’ll pay the money but since it looks like we don’t want to, they’re in a tight spot. Next summer it gets even worse for them, doesn’t it?

I heard he was renegotiating his contract again but not to take less money, rather to spread the money out into the future. That doesn’t sound great for either party.

As a few posters have said, there’s no guarantee we would still pay the fee we previously agreed (because we’ve spent so much elsewhere). But if we’re still interested, you’d think it would be best for them to take our money, pay FDJ off and bank the rest. I can’t see a better financial solution for Barca.

I'm just courious, with all due respect to LVG, will he bring a Barcelona bench warmer to the upcoming World Cup after threatening Timber not to be in a WC squad if not regular ?

Also, despite the undoubtely talent of Timber and De Jong, I'm so glad that we sign players like Martinez, Casemiro and Antony instead - they didn't think twice about joining our team and that's the mentality I want to see from our players.

Just wish we could find a progressive CM & ST who shared their passion for joining club
