I still have question mark on him, but he has shown what he can offer over last two games. He is simply excellent really!

So now you're moving the goalposts. I quoted myself, and now you're changing it to "engage"
Then it may be a case of semantics then. I would suspect that whatever you would define as 'Lindelof doesn't want to defend' would largely overlap with not engaging, being passive, backtracking, scared etc which was my point but it doesn't matter really. Ultimately we believe he is a bag of piss as a defender and that's all we need to know.

Not sure I have ever seen a CB been singled out with comments of being bullied as much as Martinez. The irony is that in the last 2 games he has been our most aggressive player by a mile.
Some people on here have a clear agenda with this guy and wont let go no matter how well he plays.

And I think most people forget that he just started. You almost think all players are robots if what some people expect of the new players. They need to get automatisms, confidence in their defense partner and they way of playing.

Problem is some posters still wont let go of his height thing, now I see posts how Southampton directed high balls to our left side time and time again. Well maybe they did but Martinez dealt pretty good with most, except few times when Adams stopped the ball and won the duels. But its not nearly as dramatic as portrayed but people wanting to be right, even forcing the issue.

Probably gonna be our most important signing this season. Defence looks very settled now with not only him but varane coming in and partnering him. Good to see Varane stringing a few games together.

At this point I will just say this is turning into hate for one player.

It doesn't matter how well he plays, idiots like Sourness in the media have already made their minds up about him and won't change their opinions and admit they got it wrong.

Happy to see Martinez getting written off and seriously tested for his height. He's the sort who thrives in such an environment and will not be allowed to rest on his laurels.

We'll see how accurate the critics are.

Souness just gets fixated on players who do something minor that annoys him. Being small and aggressive seems to be this one. He'll have it in for him for his entire career with us.

Seriously talksport opinions like this are pointless. They're clickbait designed to get people to call the show - and it clearly riles people up and works.

It’s tragic but true. That is literally the format.

Producer: ‘Get Graeme on’
Lackey: ‘Why? He’s a bit old and not really plugged into modern day football’
Producer: ‘So what?’
Lackey: ‘And he’s a walking PR disaster, been accused of racism multiple times, sexism multiple times and generally being a bigot’
Producer: ‘Exactly’

Clear agenda at this point. Absolute cnuts. Spewing the same nonsense every week despite him turning out MOTM performances in his last 2 games and if you look at the stats you’d see he not only copes fine aerially but in fact excels at it. As far as I’m concerned we’ve signed a gem and the fact Souness and co keep flapping their gums and constantly throwing shade towards him just proves it.

Looking over my shoulder.
An important aspect of his size that often goes overlooked due to the aerial discussion is his agility. He is very quick on the turn, and although I haven’t seen blistering pace from him, he reacts so quickly inside his own box.

Hopefully he doesn't turn out to be right as he was with Pogba.

It's not like he was unique in his opinion about Pogba. Many people doubted Pogba and it was clear to see why to be fair. Souness was just more aggressive and petty. I really have no idea who takes him seriously, you'd get the same content from any average Brexiteer in any pub in the UK.

Its like repeat the same thing every day and one day obviously he is going to make errors and then say 'see I told you so'.

Or from an anti-brexiteer at any pub in the UK who thinks a small CB might have issues in the PL.

Why we need to insinuate xenophobia/racism as many of the responses to Souness's comments on Pogba did, I don't know.

I don't think being a Brexiteer necessarily means racism or xenophobia. I am not a Brexiteer myself but that's your interpretation, not mine. I think it's more complex than that. For me, he is one type of Brexiteer and they come in may shapes and forms. I see his type as a conservative/old fashioned Brit with some very traditional views on the sport, manhood, etc... That can be racist/xenophobic but not necessarily. It's just that analyzing the game from that context is useless an has very little value which is why I am criticizing it.

Moaning about racism while associating brexiteers with racism in the same sentence is pretty amazing.

i don’t think it’s too early to say he is the signing of the season, across the premier league, just behind antony.

I listened to TalkSPORT this morning and Souness and Jordan were panning Martinez and saying that he is going to be really exposed as there has never been a CB of that height that ever did anything. Souness also said that he felt Maguire had been treated unfairly!

The shite that ex-Liverpool spout is just behind a joke - was saying that he will be bullied by Nunes - as if he was proven in the PL already - they are so biased towards Liverpool and just incapable of saying anything positive.
