Crazy to spend all that money on transfers then sack him a week after the window closes. I remember Chelsea fans saying he was here for the long term and the days of sacking managers every year are gone

hope it’s Pochetino and not Potter. The latter has been a sort of miracle worker at Brighton.

Wow - that seems a bit hasty - didn’t they sort out quite a few players this summer for him - right up to Auba and Zakaria on deadline day?

Seems like a crazy decision - whoever comes in now has only his players.

They’ve got a fantastic squad - clearly some shit bubbling under that we are not aware of.

Now we will see what kind of managerial statement the Americans want to make….

These Chelsea games really don't hold back don't they? One bad season and the manager is sacked regardless of whatever shit he did. Wish we are that ruthless with our managers in general. They know they spent a lot of money and what's presented on the pitch isn't good enough. Meanwhile we give our managers 2 or 3 years winning feck all before starting to think about sacking them.

Would Potter go to them mid season?
I feel like he is building something special at Brighton.

Hope they get Rogers or Poch.

I hate that Poch is still available. He was probably just waiting for a big club to implode so he could waddle in and take the job. Please stay away from him.

I don't know if this is good thing for us.

I always saw Chelsea as the weakest of the top 4.

It may now galvanise them under new manager.

Yeah just after spunking 300 mil for a new manager they get rid of him a week after. Great timing.
They don't buy their players for the manager. They buy it for the team. If they are good enough they will work under the next manager as well. That's how an actual football club works.

Why are United fans criticising the decision? This is how they want their club run don’t they?
Completely different. In the past the club signed players above the manager, he was given tools to work with and that carries on with another appointment. These signings are all Tuchel which leaves a problem with how the squad is built to play and now the only reason certain players joined is gone.
It’s 250m spent and already needs a clear out. Havertz could down tools, Auba head must be spinning. That’s literally the only 2 strikers they have.

If they get Graham Potter I am going to be gutted.

Really didn't see this coming this quickly.
Yup same. I really wanted us to try for Potter after Ole got sacked instead of waiting for a whole season to get EtH in.

He's just really good, the only question mark is if he'll be able to handle the superstar egos. comes across as a really nice / quiet.

You could tell from his interview yesterday there was something going on.

Crazy how the football landscape changes so quickly. Everyone wanted us to go for him 4 months ago.

The point of spending money is to get a top 4 spot and to do well in the CL and not just to match the coach's ambitions
They were looking the weakest of last seasons top 4 contenders, losing to minnows Dinamo Zagreb ,they were lucky against Leicester and West Ham.
With Arsenal and ManUtd improving as well they had to make a decision before it was too late. They didn't look great in pre season either.

Also may be they have someone already lined up and dint want to miss the opportunity but overall its not difficult to see that a new ownership would like to bring in its own.

I think it's the right decision in terms of it was clear this was going to happen, but should have done it sooner if anything. Things clearly weren't right, and now you've got a set of players hired to play a managers way who is already in the bin.

Shame he didn't stay a bit longer, I enjoyed them being very average.

This model clearly works for them - look at what they've won with the manager always 2 or 3 games from the sack model compared to anyone but City in the same time?

It seemed like he was done with the team and them him going by his interviews. It's probably a wise move depending on the new appointment.

Also, will a club like Chelsea give Potter the time he needs to build ingrain his style of football?

It didn't happen overnight at Brighton.

Rumours that they decided before the game last night they wanted to get rid.

What is actually crazy is they've just gone and spend huge amounts of money on players that were basically bought around the concept of playing 3 at the back which is only really preferred by Tuchel and Conte. They almost bought Leipzig backup defender for 80m to be their starting LCB in the back three.
The timing is very unusual, as you said they've invested heavily into a system very geared towards Tuchel's style. The majority of their signings this summer have all been orientated towards utilising that formation, so to sack him after backing him so much this summer so soon after the window shut is definitely chaotic.

I think it makes Potter even more of an attractive option to the Chelsea hierarchy though, as well as the suitability in terms of his positional approach to the game, he's also excellent at getting his teams playing dynamic and creative football. With how much they've struggled to get the team balanced when it comes to chance creation, I can imagine he has to be at the top of their list.
