I am completely unsurprised by his season so far. So frustrating that these deals get missed out on.

I’ve been a big fan of Gakpo since mid 2020 but once the 2021/22 season ended I was confident he’d make it big.

He’s physically got the natural gifts but he’s also a very good striker of the ball.
He looks like he could be a fantastic centre forward for us, not particularly fast for a winger but he'd have more than enough pace up front.

Mate, I do like Gakpo in our NT. Do you seriously think he’s Real Madrid material? If so you are in the minority judging by all the opinions on Dutch football forums. I know you like him a lot but cmon mate..Some of our best players ever (Sneijder and Robben) didn’t succeed at RM and you think bloody Gakpo will?
I do agree he’s a one man attack but RM would be a step too high. I think the story is a big fat nothingburger, meaning I doubt this story is true.
Real Madrid isn’t a higher level than top 4 Premier League sides. That’s what they are these days squad wise so yes Gakpo could play for Madrid if he can play for Chelsea, United etc.

He probably isn’t good enough for City but they are a level above Madrid atm on the field.

It’s funny that Madrid have the Ballon D Or winner but City even have a better player than Benzema leading the line for them this season not to mention the rest of the squad.

His price will be double what we were quoted in the summer. I really wanted Antony and am relatively happy with him so far, but we may have signed the wrong player.
Antony was needed. We needed a young left footed RW to replace Voldemort.

Gakpo would have also been a very nice addition. The two aren’t mutually exclusive for me.

Why would it be double when all he is doing is the same thing?
We wanted to buy a RW and Cody does not play there.....wrong player????
What are you talking about?

Because now everyone is aware of him and his name is being linked with Real Madrid vs Leeds.

Anyone that is any good is known by all the top clubs and if you think his price has doubled because someone has mentioned his name in the same sentence as Real then you need to get a grip!

How come this deal collapsed when everyone knew ETH wanted him? Was probably because we were out of money I guess but he's scored 9 goals and had 7 assists in 10 league games this year already.

Club should go for him again in January and simply see it as a Martial replacement.

Because we signed Antony for way more than we wanted to. And Ronaldo didn’t leave too

Ronaldo.

Right now, even though injured, it's far more beneficial to keep Martial around.

If he shows it against Arsenal tonight, he will move to a big club. If he goes missing tonight after smashing our league so far, eeeeeeh.

Not entirely sure why the caf suddenly wants him so much again. He plays on the left.. Well and has played as a 10 for about 3 matches. I'm more excited about Xavi Simons this year if I'm honest.

He’s going to cost us north of £65m, but we have to buy especially since ETH see’s him as a very important part of the squad rebuild.
Now if only we could persuade Ronaldo and possibly one or two others to explore their options..

I'll give it a watch, his numbers are fantastic so far this season but opinion on him from those I know who have watched him is largely split.
Most people probably only watched him against Rangers. He was awful to be fair in those matches.

He’s not needed at United. Im well excited about Xavi Simons and would prefer him over Gakpo.

"Martial...He's isolated Skrtel here..."
First time really studying this guy and watching him, and feck me he seems like a stronger, better finishing version of Rashford. Maybe not quite the top end speed but the dribbling/playing style is very similar. Interested to watch him against Arsenal tonight to see how he does under pressure.

PSV's Technical Director (John de Jong) also got in the way.

It's a bit murky on PSV's side what happened exactly, but it looks like he was trying to prevent certain moves from happening to protect the quality of their first team, and was backed in that by PSV's CEO. Subsequently, PSV's Board found out and got upset (they think PSV needed the big transfer income financially), and demanded the dismissal of De Jong, which happened in September.

So: United (or any other club) not getting Gakpo last summer might not (only) be due to issues on the side of United or Gakpo. And with De Jong gone, a January move should be very much possible. (For the right price, which might go up if Gakpo has a good WC.)

As I said before, this guy is not good enough. He never shows it in bigger matches.

Haven't seen much of him so don't know if we should sign him, but if the club is interested, surely we should be looking to move early in January if we can move Ronaldo out - given Ronaldo's been dropped from the squad for his antics, a January transfer seems increasingly likely although still difficult due to his salary and lack of potential buyers.
