He's a warrior defensively and really great at getting us playing out of the back incisively with those quick passes. Plus his passion is just great to watch. He's been an incredible signing and he's one of my favourites.

This was such a mental thing to say, even at the time. Normally I don't mind Carragher but this was so far wide of the mark and he's looking more stupid for it week on week.

I’m surprised he’s not come out and discussed whether Trent can still work in a back 4 or not.

First player we have who would be nailed on first choice under Guardiola that I can think of in many years. Eriksen (brilliant, but so is Silva and Gundogan is pretty damn good), Casemiro and Antony would get healthy minutes, but I think only Lisandro comfortably wins a nailed on starting spot along with Haaland, De Bruyne, Rodri and Ederson, with competitions everywhere else.

He is our Baresi. It's unfortunate that Varane is a bit injury prone and older. They could have been the New Baresi-Maldini.

Let's hope that Varane can give us 2 more years, so we can see these two beauties bossing it.

I would argue casemiro gets ahead of rodri.

Love him, like actually adore him  I can't wait for him to score a goal.

Monster of a player and definitely one of my favourites in the squad.
I would love his first goal to be a header from a corner at the kop end after out jumping VVD

Best CB in the league and I was in the he is too short Carragher camp. Such a joy to watch. Happy to see another Argentine after my favourite United player Gabriel "the hatchet" Heinze

Been desperate for a player like him for years. Daley Blind but with a tonne of aggression, a bit of pace and a leader attitude.

He's great.

He should be made our next captain when Maguire is sold.
De Gea is not brave and outspoken enough.
Bruno is too much a whining kid.

Those chants that burst out in the second half gave me chills. A proper celebration of his class
I’ve said it before but he needs a chant of his own. Plenty of stuff that could go into a song about him too. Off the top of my head there’s:

  • Turned down arsenal
  • The butcher
  • Licha
  • From argentina
  • Came from Ajax with ten hag
  • Carragher said he’s too small
  • Hard as feck
someone more creative than me could put all those nicely into a chant imo

Not even dreaming of it but if we ever get Saliba somehow we'd win the title or right there.
Arsenal very nearly had both for this season.

It's good to see him getting credit in the general media now though. Overdue. Carragher won't mention him now though..

We do chant “Argentina” every time he’s on the ball to be fair.

Loved it when the crowd broke into an 'argentina' chant in the second half.

I was sat in south stand with a particularly miserable lot and was the only one chanting.

Turned around after the goal and shocked to see myself standing face to face with dennis law!

He is our future captain and he is a leader already. He sets the tone for every game.

Glad we failed to sign Timber, we wouldn't have signed Martinez if that transfer didn't fail. Have to thank whoever was involved in that.

His header stopping Dawson from getting a tap-in was probably the best defensive action of the game.

Don’t cry for me, Argentina
The truth is I never left you
Through Gaby Heinze and Carlos Tevez
Feck Di Maria
I love Martinez

Don’t cry for me, Argentina
The truth is we’ll always love you
Your penetration and interceptions
Forget the size, it’s
About the hard-ons

Skysports, the main outlet pushing the height agenda have an article on him now, praising his performances with the line, and I quote:

Martinez was ridiculed in some quarters for his height as a centre-back when he first arrived in England
There is just no accountability or shame for these dog shite outlets is there.

I’ve been thinking about for a few weeks, and now it’s undeniable.

I’m in love with him, and he just oozes sex appeal.

Was the crowd chanting Argentina or asesino? Or it could be my ears playing a game with me. Asesino is a fitting chant for Licha!

Argentina. We've done it since Heinze and with Tevez.

“He’s not particularly special at anything”. He must be a wheelbarrow then.

He said something similar about Casemiro never having been a great player.
