I don't even think the first half was very good. Couple of good moments from Ecuador but it faded away well before the whistle. There's been a whole lot of nothing taking place between the boxes. Players miscontrolling the ball and missing easy passes.

Still, it's good enough for Ecuador. Gives them half a chance in this group.

Ecuador haven't been great, but Qatar are making them look good. But it ends up a terrible game of football. Holland and Senegal have this group on toast.

I’ve zoned out of this game. Pathetic start to a World Cup in a pathetic country.

I had to leave the house at halftime for a wedding. From the posts in this thread, appetizers and cocktails may have been a better choice!

Why is he stupid?
Are you for real?

In the wrong end, taunting home fans, and he has his kid next to him?
Do that in most stadiums and you'll provoke a good slapping, and probably not what you want to bring your kids into.

Seems like the forum is happy to let it slide for this particular tournament.
Some are so thick they won't even acknowledge it, just 'top banter' in their eyes.

Thread could do with some cleaning up from the mods.
Have to agree, it is a bit much under the cover of the general negativity surrounding Qatar as host nation.

People in this thread joking about bone saw murder on that Ecuadorian fan that provoked the random Qatari spectators with the hand gesture.
I agree with all of this. I am deeply against Qatar hosting this World Cup and I'm strongly against their position on LGBT rights and human rights in general. But that definitely doesn't excuse Islamophobia. I strongly recommend using the Report function on any comments that are distasteful and hateful in this way.

I didn't actually twig what he was doing with his hands or the significance. That just means money here. Maybe I'm just being slow. Is that commonly used for bribery?
Err..what possible other reason would he be doing that if not to allude to bribery?

Poor match. Qatar have been terrible. There is also no other game today to redeem the day.

I didn't actually twig what he was doing with his hands or the significance. I also didn't realise it was after the disallowed goal .
With the context he’s quite clearly saying money/ bribery. That’s why the guy behind him gets so angry and tells him to shut the feck up.

I see him sitting there with his 2 young girls and as a father I just think wtf are you doing?!

anyway…

Why didn't Ecuador just sub Valencia off at half time with the game basically already won?!

Now he seems to have exacerbated his injury in the second half, and without him they have much less of a chance getting passed Senegal and out the group.

It's after the VAR check so yeah, it means money, as in "how much did that take?"

That might happen in any European league but you would be surprised to know that’s not what happens in this part of the world. Crowd and locals are much more civilised than you want to give them credit for.

I’m amazed the amount of people here who can’t even understand that. Then again, this is the cafe..
The same people who believe that England’s Brave Harry Maguire was a national hero for starting a fight in a Greek bar and assaulting the filthy foreign police.

I wouldn't say wrong end, because besides the ecuador section, the entire stadium is the 'wrong end'. It looked like he was in the family section, and most people found it hilarious except for that one guy.

He's clearly either exceptionally dim, exceptionally arrogant, or most likely a tourist in for the big occasions.
Most sensible match going fans wouldn't end up surrounded by opposition fans wearing the away gear for starters, let alone start taunting them in a very personal way.

The shooting and crossing in this game has been embarrassing from both sides.
