This is blown out of proportion. Croatia scored that deflected goal against the run of play and then won it in the penalties. They were nowhere close to 'best' version of themselves.

Thought Croatia were excellent in first 30 minutes, Modric and Kovacic were pressing brilliantly and circulating the ball well. Just got done by two breakways and Argentina with their strong defensive mindset weren't going to throw away a lead this time.
Have to say putting in Alvarez as a false 9 instead of Lauturo could be difference here for Argentina winning WC as they've got a much better flow in final third.

Croatia have done really well to finish 3rd/4th considering the performances have been pretty bad.
