Quite confused that people are going so heavily into criticizing Weghorst for today. His link-up play was very solid.

We didn't do enough to trouble Arsenal's defence for people to be complaining about our striker not scoring.

He is going to be a complete waste of a signing. He is miles off in terms of what we needed in a striker. Slow, immobile and just all around toothless. Feels like he got zero threat up front.

People who think he was shit today no absolutely nothing about number 9 hold up play.

he hasn’t been brought ito take on 3 people and ping it into the top bag.

he has been brought in to give us a central focal point via good hold up and link play.

and to make room for others via clever runs to drag players out of position.

both of which he did loads of in the first hour today.

give your heads a wobble
Agreed. He occupied the CBs quite well and had some nice link up play. The fact he had few chances on goal was a function of our lack of chance creation.

Like playing with 10 men. Rather have a donkey like Darwin who at least fecking moves.
This a joke? He moved all game. Even helped out in defence at some stage. Couldn’t do nothing offensively as the team lacked creativity.

Well it was either him or no one! He gives us something different.

I like him in terms of press and hold up play. Good bit of physicality about him however going forward he’s not the biggest threat. He won’t score goals by the dozen which is what we need. Goals. Can’t rely on rashford for our goals.

He is exactly what I thought he will be. It was a mistake to start him in the last game, and again today

Donkey. "Works hard" is the biggest cope in football.

If we sign him permanently I give up.

We’re absolutely skint aren’t we. Nowhere near good enough to be playing 90mins for us. Just hope we get top 4 over the line.

Effective? Care to tell more?
well yeh… basically every attack we had started by going into his feet where either a flick round the corner or hold up and lay off for us up the pitch to have a crack at goal…

so yeh… effective

He would be useful if we crossed the ball or played to his strengths. But we never will. Rashford is always going to cut inside to look for a shot. Antony does nothing.

I don't think it would be that bad a signing if we did something to get him in the game.

Thought he was one of our better players today in all fairness. Linked up well with others, pulling players out of position and worked his arse off.

I think he’ll be a success here, even if it is only for 6 months.

He actually did well today. Still not good enough but I guess we've got no other options and no money. Whose fecking fault is that we spunked 100m on a fidget spinner?

We needed an option to back-up Martial and he did that reasonably well today, people deluding themselves that he was going to get loads of goals or be a huge threat for us were being unfair.

We didn't have money to invest in a striker and, unsurprisingly, clubs aren't usually willing to let genuinely good strikers go on loan for next to nothing. He's about as good as we could have got.

Works hard for the team. That’s all you can ask from a player. Always putting in effort. Bit odd that we aren’t crossing much to him though. I get ETH doesn’t want us to be a long ball/crossing all the time team but we can mix it up sometimes. What’s the point in having a 6ft6 striker if we ain’t gonna use his strengths.
Sure, if you're battling relegation. At this end of the table you can definitely ask for much more than that.

I was actually looking forward to him but this is a bit tragic. Sums up how we are run under the rats

Half this forum doesn't know a strikers job they think it's only goals.

Effective at what exactly? He had zero shots. For a centre forward, that's pathetic.
held the ball up really, pressed a lot and helped us win the ball back.

if he had no shots, blame the supply? every cross was nowhere near him, we never pressured arsenal enough to get him the ball in the box.

what he did outside of the box was very good.

Yep in his first 2 games after a handful of training sessions and new to the league, team, players, manager, country etc....not sure what fans expected

Maybe but without 100% from every player it’s pointless. Like martial for example as all the skills and attributes but doesn’t work hard for the team… it all starts with hard work and then the rest falls into place.

This.

And how many decent crosses has received in two games?

Our issue is the squad, let's not be harsh on him.

He runs like he's in quick sand.

But he was decent today, worked hard and pressed well.

Like against Palace he did good as a target and at pressing but you can see why he only scored twice for Burnley

for those who don’t understand…

please see Giroud in the 2018 WC for France.

don’t think he scored a single goal, but was the focal point for all of their counterattack goals.

this lad is a loan signing from Burnley, mid season when we are skint, when our World Class geriatric has fecked off, and our perma crocked first choice alternative is constantly unavailable.

all in all, he is doing about as well as should be expected

Not new to the country or league. He has to adapt to his new team mates and new style of play though.

Thankfully it's a half a season loan move with very little risk.
We really need Martial to be available for a lot of games though, as we'll look pretty light in attack otherwise.

If Rashy wasn't in lifetime peak form it'd be even worse.

Is trying his best but he doesn’t belong at this level. Full marks for the effort but he looks more like a fan who won a concert who ke just happy to be here.

Late in the second half, he had Bruno free to the right, making a run, but he doesn’t even look for that option. So frustrating.

And of course he caused no trouble to their back line. Good pressing thought. That’s an upgrade on Ronaldo.

Why is he starting? I've been impressed with ETH so far but what's the logic behind bedding in Casemiro but throwing in weghorst while other better options sit on the bench?

spoken like someone who never watch RvN…

mark hughes? Yup…

Dwight Yorke? Yup….

louis Saha? Yup…

but RvN? His hold up being one of his strengths? One of our best ever strikers, but pretty bloody average at hold up.
If you don't think RvN wasn't brilliant at hold up play then it's you that needs to watch again

Don’t think he was poor at all. He pressed from the front, had sod all service from midfield and when the ball was played in to him be brought other players in to the game. He makes a good run in the second half and McTominay plays such a poor ball.
get the lad some service before you judge him in front of goal.
