He had his around around his neck. He wasn’t strangling him but that isn’t the point.

His hands shouldn’t have been anywhere near Hughes neck. Casemiro is 100% at fault and only has himself to blame.
Yeah his hands were around his neck for like two seconds trying to push him away. Run the slow mo and zoom in and play it in isolation with some horror music then sure Casemiro was a villainous strangler. In a situation where theres a lot of pushing and physical altercations, you can't give Casemiro red without trying to implicate he tried to hurt the other player, and from the angle - strangling him was what it looked like. Obviously, that's not what happened. It's ridiculous honestly.

I thought the red was soft but Casemiro was silly to give him the chance to red card him.

The Sabitzer "foul" was utterly fecking disgraceful though, horrendous performance by the ref .

He needs to answer for this one. He won't but Rashford had 1 man to beat

That’s disgraceful. It just shows refs follow narratives, it was all about if Palace could score and that’s the lens he viewed it through

If you give a red to Case for that you have to give the same to Ayew, who actually grabs Fred's neck with force.

I'm not able to post media yet, but here's a link to another angle of the situation.

Why not show this angle?

When the players throw their handbags there are usually a couple of reds, at least in slow motion.

The use of slo-mo and on a fecking loop is just ridiculous for things like this. That needs addressing. Did the ref see it in normal speed at all?

From the one angle and one frame mariner was shown by the VAR, it looked a red. But that's not the whole picture. The reaction or lack thereof from Hughes says it all.

When you slow down, most fouls and actions look worse. That's what VAR did and found what it was looking for. I am fine with it as long as it's consistent, but it's not. We have frames of ayew going around now, that looks like red as well. Will there be a retrospective ban? I don't think so.

I do wonder why mariner wasn't asked to look at this by Var
I was just about to mention that Fred got nearly punched in the jaw yet they didn't zoom in to review that. I thought VAR went for a non-involved approach like they've been lately. But to pick and choose to send one player off and not another one is proof of bias. It's not like the ref had the chance to send anyone else off either because he only got to watch the one angle of one situation.

So I guess the ref didn't miss the first punch on Fred but deemed it 'not enough in it'. If they don't back this up with the claim 'Casemiro tried to kill him', they simply have to revoke the red card.

That’s disgraceful. It just shows refs follow narratives, it was all about if Palace could score and that’s the lens he viewed it through
Spot on. If that happened 30 minutes earlier in the game - giving a foul wouldn't even have entered his mind. Pure bias at show.

When you put your hands in that position you’re putting yourself at risk of getting a red card unfortunately. It didn’t look very ‘violent’ but I can understand the argument for a red and for it to be a yellow. I think the issue is that if it is a red there are a few more cases for a red in the same incident.

Sending off Casemiro is understandable, but there’s no justification for not sending off Ayew as well.

This may well be smoking gun evidence of bias.

Whilst I don’t disagree I think there’s two frustrating elements to this which we keep seeing repeated;

1) VAR using one angle and slowmo/still images to seemingly push a certain narrative. It’s clear from the opposite angle Casemiro has hold of his shirt whilst pulling him away yet they only show the angle that looks like a choke. Totally misleading.

2) The brushing over Ayew element. He lashes out and actually does have Fred by the neck. Clearly visible but totally ignored.

I don’t really blame the on field ref here as he’s being guided a certain way but I have no idea why the VAR behaves like this.

While VAR officials and referees don't show us transparency there will be lot of this. If we can't have mics and cam on in VAR room and on referees, ten Hag needs to talk about this every inteview. When you think that we can't be judged any harder, following week they just show you that we can. I'm surprised that no official from us have talked about it yet.

One minute added on the other night against Forest when we were 5-0 up on aggregate and coasting. 2-1 up today, nervy finish, 7 minutes of course. You can point to stoppages in play due to the red card or whatever else occurred, but if we had been 2 or 3 nil up, there likely would have been only two or three minutes added on. This scripted dramatic finish is a regular occurrence.

I’ve said this before, and think it’s a better way to leverage VAR then using still frames etc.

Have the replay done in full speed always, there is no stopping/zooming in etc. The ref has maybe a maximum of 5 times to see an incident if they cannot determine a reason to change the call on the field that it is not conclusive and we carry on.

Not even related to today’s incident but just from an overall standpoint, I think this would be the best.

Agree. I never liked var anyway but this would be a better use of it

Great from our coach. I like this. Keep up the pressure. Just put it out. Put out examples. There are lot more he could have brought up.
Yeah, I was just thinking earlier that we need him to mention all the recent injustices and he did exactly that. The elbow on Martinez was so blatant. And miles more violent than what Casemiro did today. He’s putting pressure on the officials for our next matches. Good to see.

I know getting the right decisions is important but VAR really is horrendous for stadium going fans. You just sit there hoping for the best while not having a scooby of what is actually happening. What I also don’t get is why football doesn’t have screens to see things like sport like cricket or NFL do. I understand that those sports have breaks but still it took 4 minutes to sort out that red card incident and till the end no one even knew in the stadium who was the player being looked at

Casemiros is definitely a red...and fabinhos last week is definitely a yellow... go home var you are drunk. Of course it would take the Premier league and its refs to screw up technology that's suppose to advance the game. The same decision changes week from week and ref from ref. And this whole changing rules mid season is laughable also. Added time... well that seems to depend on whether the ref needs the toilet. Big stopclock in the ground like the American sports would sort out that nonsense, let everyone get their moneys worth and take it outta the refs hands

We have been to soft on this. We have been to nice. He needs to keep this up and tell how it is. It is enough of being punching bag.

Well, obviously but if we fight back he'll be perceived as classless or whatever, somebody making excuses, trying to affect the refs, lacking focus and generally being made an example out of by the f.a. It's not like we only have to moan at the refs and suddenly we get favourable or fair decisions.

From this angel
not a red
He was quite clearly trying to separate them and in the scuffle his hand was placed on Hughes' throat area, but there was no clear deliberate attempt to choke him, imo. He was even motioning him to "calm down" with his hand.

Imagine if the opposition did that to Antony - you’d all be crying murder and asking for criminal charges.
Yeah, right. Crystal Palace did far worse to Antony with a far more potential for injury than a simple hand on a throat for like 2 seconds at most. Get real.

You think under the laws of the game that was a red card and Casemiro’s wasn’t?

They did. Just check the Fred pictures. It was far more aggressive.
To be fair, I haven’t seen the Fred ones, and it wasn’t clear in the footage earlier so can’t comment on that yet.

Yes? On what planet are you living on when someone deliberately pushing another player into the stands (and possibly trying to injure him because Schlupp quite clearly wasn't trying to play for the ball) and then goes to taunt him is less of a red card than a slight hand to the throat with no visible aggressive behavior and trying to calm the situation down?

One of the obvious flaws the current way to run var is that only some angled views are sent to referee to examine pitch side. I guess two are the max. In this situation, they only sent one. Really poor and it’s like intentional manipulation.
