Well deserved assist and trophy.

He continues to be a good foil and worker for the team, ETH knows when he's playing another player gets a rest for all those who keep grumbling about him. It shows what we could be with a top replacement in the summer.

I wouldn't mind him staying if he wants to be cover and play cup matches.

Park? O'Shea? There where always these types in the squad under Ferguson.
Neither of them looked classes below their teammates technically when called upon, and they had stretches of performing superbly , including in big games. Park were a pretty constant fixture in our team in big games, and his run of form over the Nov-Jan 2010/11 period helped massively with our title win. O’Shea made the Scousers cry, Brown was part of our record setting defense.

And they covered multiple positions, or you think Wout Weghorst will play as a 10 for us with Bruno, Sancho and Eriksen in the team, when we have a starting striker?

I'm better than Messi (even though I'm not)
He made the best decision in his life to come here, even though it’s only half season. He won a trophy with us! Must be over the moon. So glad for him.
Don’t think it was a difficult one to be fair. I’m also happy for him though, works his socks off. We can all say that’s the minimum requirement but we’ve had so many in the last decade just phoning it in.

Great attitude, works his arse off, and I was really happy for him with how pleased he looked to get a trophy, shame he’s not a bit better at the striker bit. Still, I wouldn’t be disappointed if he stuck around as a squad option as 3rd striker.

Those two (especially Park) had a lot more quality.

He’s got a great attitude, he’s likeable, and he’s done a job for us, but hopefully the days of us handing out contracts for sentimental reasons are over.

Weghorst was one of our best players today. He was leading the press, tracking back and breaking up their play, winning balls in the final third. His quick passing and an assist for Rashford. Was unlucky not to get a goal himself.

He brings something to this team, an attitude of never giving up on getting the ball back, and it is infectious, other players see him busting a gut and they join in. We were gassed out today after Thursday night, and we needed individuals to step up and he did today. He deserves his medal.

Of course O'Shea looked way below the first choice back then. Park wasn't exactly Ronaldo or Giggs either.
They where hard working and filled in their role, exactly like Wout did today. I don't expect him to be s starter when Eriksen is fit. But we need options from the bench and Wout offers far more than Elanga for example.

And has been fantastic for us so far.

Surely he is in first position per 90
Honestly, would rather sign Olise, or Giroud, or Benzema. He has his moments every once in awhile, but looks out of his depth most of the time.

O'Shea certainly didn't. He was hard working and did the job he was asked to. Exactly like Wout.

Not far enough

Olise is a right winger/attacking midfielder. Benzema and Giroud are not for sale.

I'd rather we have 25 year old Rooney but hey.

Lack of pace really hurts him but boy does he work hard. Let's put it like this, I much prefer having him about the squad to Lingard.
Not top class by any measure but does have his own quality

I certainly hope we can do a damn sight better than Elanga for backup if we don’t end up keeping Weghorst.

If Martial doesn’t pull together anything resembling a run of fitness from now until end of the season, I hope we bring in 2 CF, one starter and one understudy (someone like Evan Ferguson, or a similar prospect). As for Wout, he tries hard, bless him, but at his age he’s not going to turn into Lewandowski and we need better. City don’t need to compromise the quality of their football with Alvarez instead of Haaland, neither do Arsenal with Nketiah/Jesus. We should look to do the same.

O'Shea was still a PL level footballer. I don't think Wout gets into any other team in the league, sadly.

Sure if we get Qatari owners I might agree with you, but that's not a certainty. And Lewandowski isn't a realistic bar for a bench option.
We also need to make sure the attitude is correct.

I doubt he ever expected 6 months ago he'd be winning a trophy!
He was at Besiktas who won quite a lot of those during their history. He had a much better chance than with Burnley.

Probably didn't expect to win a trophy with United six months ago though.

No but he fits a role in Ten Hags gameplan. As long as that is the case I am fine with him being here as a bench option.

Wout is part of a witches brew.
Take a whole Casemiro, add a pace of Rashford, a bite of Martinez and a pinch of Weghorst, then stir it all up with other ingredient, you have a good spell

I’d snap him up as a squad player. Good character, works his arse off, an assist today and a great effort: the goals will come but be brings much more than that

It’s tongue in cheeks. The type I think of is someone like a Mandzukic at Bayern or Giroud at Assna/Chelsea. Even if not quite good enough to perform consistently as a starter, still provides genuine competition if the main man suffers a bad drop in form, and is an option to change games from the bench, not just an emergency option for injury crisis.

Happy enough with what he's contributing.

I'm not bothered about signing him in the summer - when we'll have a clear idea of the owner situation and a bigger budget to make that permanent goalscoring #9 signing that we're crying out for.

But as a makeshift loan signing then he's doing what he was brought in to do. It's just frustrating that Martial isn't fit at all at the moment as it's putting more pressure - from the outside, at least - on Weghorst to be expected to provide some goals as the only #9 to go with the attributes he brings.

But his real role was to be the second choice behind Martial, to offer good work rate and link up play, etc, when needed. And he's doing that fine. And really looks like he fits in well with the team spirit and commitment. The fact that he's been needed a lot more than is ideal due to Martial's injury issues is a shame, but he can't suddenly step up to providing what a fit Martial offers as well. All he can do is carry on playing his role to the best of his ability. And, so far, he's doing that all right.

think he benefitted from Botman/Schar not being the quickest

He's got a bit heart and fights for everything

Uh we don't always have to show gratitude with a new contract. He's a hardworker doing his job well but under ETH that will be the bare minimum demand going forward. It's not meant to override the talent requirement. Plus imagine what Ten Hag can actually find in a summer window when he isn't picking from a miniscule pool of available backup strikers.
