Should Maguire be subbed on in the last minute if we're winning so he can lift the trophy?

I think it was a nice thing for him and Bruno to lift it. Everyone knows Bruno is effectively the captain of the club now in all but name but we still could do with Maguire as a squad player, it just seemed the right call to make.

Pretty much certain to leave the club in the summer and hopefully both parties get something good out of it. For us hopefully we get a good fee and for him he gets to revive his career with another club and continue his very good England form.

On the day we in our first trophy in 6 years, some fans want to focus on negatives :houllier:

Surprised this is his first trophy. I thought he won more, like the Premier League title, but he joined Leicester afterwards. Happy for him. A fantastic professional.

Deserved in the sense that when he plays good (as rare as that is) he gets praised. When he plays bad (as often as that is), he gets criticism. Same as any other player in the world. Hell, even our best players like Bruno and Rashford have gotten their fair share of criticism over the years. It's part of the game. There's nothing really special about how Maguire is treated. If you guys are such humanitarians, why don't you go over the Glazer thread and start defending poor ol' Avi from the terribly evil United fans, as well? Or he doesn't have that special privilege?
You are changing the wording of what I replied to. You said that the abuse he receives is deserved. That is something completely different from warranted criticism for on-pitch performance. Abuse is what dogshit people throw out when they cant form a rational argument.

There is a big difference there.

Pleased he got to jointly loft the trophy. A nice farewell, the sort of thing we are good at doing as a club.
Unless your name is Jesse Lingard and a temporary caretaker wont let you don the shirt a few minutes to say goodbye to the fans after spending a majority of your life at the club.

I am what some will consider a hater but I think the whole thing was very well handled by Maguire, Bruno and EtH.

This obsession about who gets to lift the trophy is pointless. I care about United lifting it, not those cheating barcodes.

Agreed. There’s no need to read into this one more than what is blatantly obvious, Maguire will probably leave in the summer but he’s tried hard and it’s really not his fault he cost what he did or that he was overrated as sin - he’s captain and lift the trophy.

Exactly. Some fecking weird people on here who just love to hate on someone. He’s the club captain so would have lifted the trophy in any case. Always has to be one player on here who seems to draw the haters.

He will probably leave in the summer but unlike Ronaldo has been getting on with it as a professional.
Exactly.

He's a United player and has played a part so deserves it. Stop hating our fecking players you strange individuals.

Most of us acknowledge he isn't good enough for the club as a starting CB and luckily ETH realises this too. To keep giving the lad shit is what's wrong nowadays with fans.

Think it shows how classy ETH is that he brought him on (cos he didn't have to obviously) . How great the team/Bruno is that they pushed him to the front to get the trophy, and how great Maguire is that he insisted Bruno lift it with him.

There is absolutely nothing to criticise here and just everything to love about our players.

Regardless of what you think of him as a player, he's still club captain, and it would've been a massively cnutish thing to do if he wasn't the one (with Bruno) to lift the cup.

He gets token minutes all the time. There are matches we don't need him on and he still gets a couple of minutes. There are matches where he's useful at the end and he gets a couple of minutes. There's no doubt in my mind that ten Hag is appeasing him with token minutes in games.

Noticed that he removed his United scarf just before he started to go upstairs with the lads to collect the trophy.
Seemed disconected and that is understandable.
Nevertheless, good job for winning it.

I don't get the animosity towards Harry, he never forced united to sign him for 80 million, for all his faults he may have on the pitch he has always been a complete professional off the pitch despite it being clear this season he isn't in ten hag's plans going forward with him struggling to get game time this season

This. Everything about this and everyone involved in it has been class. Yes, Maguire as well.

Hopefully him and Bruno can lift another one this season.

No idea what Maguire has possibly done to anger our own fanbase

Right call for him and Bruno to lift the trophy together.

Whatever you think/feel about him hes still club captain so right call. Plus he played (unlike a certain John Terry).

Anyway imagine the shitfest if Ten Hag veto'd him lifting the trophy, the ABU bunch would have been making that the headline instead of the correct headline.

This.

As much as he doesn't fit ETH's system and the humiliation he has had to face, he has always been a proper professional -- never heard of bad comments coming out of him or his agent. Many before him have not been as gracious.

That is what I will remember him by.

He's like one of those heads of states/monarch whose role is primarily to participate & head ceremonies with no real role in functioning of the country. Happy he was able to lift a trophy as captain irrespective of his contributions to the cause.

I agree and just another sign of how ETH has completely rehabilitated a once utterly-toxic team.

I agree - he has been nothing but dignified throughout all this. The likes of Lingard, Ronaldo, Henderson, and Bailly could learn a lot from him.

Agree don't think this could have been handled any better. Showed a true team spirit.
