fecking disastrous.
I don’t mind about the EPL we will stumble to the 4th spot but I would have loved an FA cup victory and especially a Europa League. Still gutted 24hours later

How does that work? If we're huge underdogs against Brighton - and we are, I agree - then we really can't be considered favourites in the EL which has better teams than Brighton. Not to mention we're in a near impossible position ahead of the second leg.
I don't think you've seen much of Brighton lately.

Shaw has been quality back there in fairness, so at least he is another option.
Just need Malachia not to be in yesterday's form if that happens!
Any more games from Malacia like that and Dalot or Fred will be playing left back.

Never thought I’d take the news of a metatarsal break so well.

Maguire and Lindelof for most of the run in then. We are about to play some shambolic stuff.
Maguire gets some insane stick on here. He’s done well last couple of appearances and is still part of Englands defence. Not ideal as Varane and Martinez are better, but please don’t underestimate him. He can still do a job for us and we need to get behind him.

Just grind out results in league to finish top 4.
Think our chances in EL/Fa Cup are slim now.

I really hope your trolling at this point
Not getting top 4 when Chelsea and Liverpool have completely imploded isn't good enough

Especially when it means losing out to Spurs who already sacked their manager for not being good enough

Are our standards now lower than spurs?

Im not usually one who gives him stick tbf. I just know him and Lindelof together means we play out of the back a lot slower and therefore worse.

And to think there were people questioning me in the EtH thread about whether there's people that would see EtH go, well here we are @Leftback99 @Zlatan 7

So many butt-fecking quitters in here! Some of you need to give your heads a wobble! :wenger:
We are Manchester United, not Martinez FC.One man doesn’t make a team, we have a quality manager and a talented squad. We will make top 4 and win one more trophy. Licha may even be back to contribute to a final (severity of injury depending). We go for it!!

There isn't a single Europa League team better than Brighton, not even close... Ignore the name of Juventus, they are not all that good and we're ridiculously fortunate to beat Sporting yesterday even. Hell, look at the top 11 in the prem, and at best, the other Europa League teams would be Fulham/Brentford/Villa level (and current Chelsea, but that's like our situation with rangnick more than their real level). They are well behind the rest, which yes includes Brighton who performance wise are very arguably one of the 4 best performing sides in the league. Battered Spurs away but ref fecked them out of a win which would have had them right in that 5th position basically.

The worst of all is that I have not seen any improvement from them on that front after nearly one year of Erik Ten Hag.

it’s not just Martinez, we’re also missing Varane for several weeks, and Maguire is out for FA cup semi. It’s pretty disastrous.
For what it’s worth I think we’ll still clinch top 4 (possibly 3rd) and squeak past Sevilla, still possibly winning the EL. Think Brighton will smash us out the FA cup though.

Maguire who appears to be good at holding the ball has one major weakness, he dwells on the ball too long. Lindelof has improved, but we know his peak isn't title winning CB quality.

We're in for a rough finish this season..:(

That because they haven’t played together/much. Licha and Varane are the preferred players. Erik even puts Shaw at CB over them. He really likes a left footed player in the LCB position.

If Varane is out for a few weeks, how does that narrative from yesterday work out, i.e. that ETH knew of the problem and thought he could finish the half? Seems very similar to Ole recklessly playing on an injured player which will only cause further damage.

I love ETH but what I absolutely loathed about Ole was his recklessness with managing players fitness/injury, and anything that reminds me off it gets me nervous.

Sporting knocked out Arsenal - the Premier League leaders! I'm not at all convinced Brighton would have done all that much better against them than Juventus... though admittedly Brighton aren't burdened by Allegri's cowardice.

The Caf tends to ridiculously overrate the Premier League.

Whilst not as good as the two we’ve lost, Maguire and Shaw at the back isn’t terrible for a backup pair and should be good enough to see us through for top 4 at least, especially with Case and Eriksen in front of them. We’ve not got many truly difficult games left in the league, if any. Just need there to be no further injuries. Losing Martial and/or Casemiro for any significant time will be the end of it though.

Nah, the premier league throughout the league is at a much higher level than anywhere else. There are a few elite teams elsewhere, but nowhere has the quality throughout the rest like the prem. And Brighton especially have been brilliant all season. Hell, look at West Ham. They're a mid table team who are relegation fodder this season, yet they are favourites for the Conference League.

And yeah sporting knocked out Arsenal on pens and Arsenal's focus is on the prem, pretty obviously. Plus it's a cup competition, one off results happen. Generally speaking though, in terms of what the teams have shown as a unit, Brighton is far better than any other Europa League side and they're arguably as good as Newcastle and United this season.

Juve for example are 7th.. yes points deducted, but would be 3rd which is mediocre anyway there. Bayer Leverkusen are 6th. Sporting are 4th in their league and fully outplayed Juve. Chelsea fully battered Milan earlier this season and Juve isn't better than Milan (though of course one off results are hard to read into). They are in the Europa League because they aren't Champions League level, that's about it really, and not like they've impressed in the Europa League.

Good lord, it’s Brighton. They are having a decent season sure, but they arent prime Madrid. And we are not Accrington Stanley.
No but they do play in a way we particularly struggle against, especially without Martinez who is one of the few who is comfortable being pressed. They'll likely control the game and we'll need to turn it into an open, end to end game and let the superior attackers win it for us.

Thats it. Pack it up. End the season now.
That seems a bit over the top. I think we'll be okay in the premier league, easily finishing top 4 and maybe top 3. I think it's a lot less likely we'll win the FA cup and Europa League but we still have a chance at both.

I'm glad De Gea already got his clean sheet record though.....

We are not unaccustomed to playing on the counter if we need to, and as you rightly assert we do have superior attackers. Our midfield is stronger than theirs too.

Bad news regarding Lisandro and I wish him well in his recovery but it is really business as usual for Rafa as i don't think he has managed three or four consecutive games with us.
All we can do now as true fans of the club is get behind the players that come in and try and finish our season in a positive way.

Brighton and Spurs. And potentially any game in the PL is difficult. We've dropped points to Southampton, Palace, Leeds, Brentford, Villa.

I have faith in Maguire and Lindelof to get us to 4. I think Europa and FA cup might be beyond us now

It's shit news but could have been a lot worse. I think Maguire/Lindelof and Shaw will be fine, if we get past Sevilla and Brighton Varane should be back before the Semi-finals and Final. Shaw has shown himself a capable deputy for Martinez, by which time hopefully Martial and Eriksen will be match fit and sharp. So not everything is bad.
