First, SJR is NOT a good owner (see Lausanne and Nice). Second, clearing the debt should be a priority but will not happen without deep pockets. And thirdly, competing on the transfer market demands ever deeper pockets.

If SJR is the best Britain has to offer as a rich man, then no wonder why the country is in trouble.
I never said SJR was a good owner. I've had my doubts about him for a while but tbh I have no idea if he will be good for us or not.

Isn't that the biggest concern - we just don't know what he will do with our existing debt, plans to improve our infra?

At least Jassim has put out PR regarding what his aim is towards those things irrespective of whether you believe it. With Ratcliffe, it's like we'll be going into a blind U-turn full pelt hoping there's no one rushing at us from the other side.

A lot of people will feel at ease if he clarifies his stance on it.
Be great if he did but he doesn't haven't to clarify it with us. We don't get a say sadly.

im sure he doesn't want to bid 5bn for something and see it fail either. And he's a Utd fan too from Failsworth afterall.

#RatcliffeOut trending on Twitter already. Oh dear.  If anything other than Qatar happens I can forsee a lot of protests and match abandoned like last season. We will become the most Toxic club.
Bring it. Feck that Tory and feck his idea of keeping the Glazers in some measure.

So, Al Thani can afford not only buying the club, but also clear the debt and build a new stadion. And people don't even ask where he got his money from, totally blinded by greed as they are. They actually deserve the Glazers as owners. A perfect match.
My sentiments exactly. There is only one palatable offer on the table that i'm ok with. Don't want the club to be in the hands of a state.

Nah, because most matchgoing fans will probably be sensible enough to give the regime a chance as well as being rightfully delighted that we won't be some oil state's sportswashing vehicle.

Ugh, f u c k off. Utter cretin.

Another debt purchase. Shouldn’t be allowed.

Utd fans thought they were finally rid of these repulsive leeches, instead they’ve just got an extra cretin to put with the rest.

Just sell the club and feck off out of English football you fecking parasites.
You’ve missed the sudden swathe of Debt is Good posters. Absolute joke of a takeover of it happens, the better options are not only Qatari but some are so entrenched they’d rather this crap.

You are aware the Qataris have become quite close with the Glazers and are apparently helping them in the middle East with other business ventures?

I wouldn't want you to be totally biased here or anything.

Oh and by the way the Qatari state are far worse than Tories. You should have a read up on them.

I don't believe any of this. It's all leaked with the objective of squeezing more money. Just ignoring everything but the outcome.

I thought rules were introduced to stop these sorts of purchases?

Exactly.

If he was intent on clearing the parasite’s debt, it would be made clear.
Wonder if his intention all along was to partner with the glazers and with that, obviously the debt stays. Previously called them the 'nicest people'!

Maybe Jassim was the bluffer all along? If he's state backed then how is Ratcliffe outbidding him? At any rate Ratcliffe clearly just wants this more. I think he will be our new owner.

Woodward didn't had SAF and lets not talk absolute BS. Our managers got the players that they wanted, they made the decisions, they called the shots and the club didn't hire or sacked any differently than any other club. And no he didn't notorriously called out a thing. During a conference call he was asked by the representative of shareholder if the qualification for the CL would lead to new commercial deals for the following season, it was a question to Arnold and Woodward answered that the two things aren't directly related which was true. There was nothing wrong with his attitude, he answered to the question of a shareholder to the CFO.
So what you're saying is Woodward did not do a bad job as CEO on the football side of things?

Also, if the CEO totally depends on the manager and does not have the right personnel to drive the club towards a single direction, he is a colossal failure in my eyes. Simply shows that he has not put in the right structures in place for the managers and club to succeed.

Just removing (some of) the glazers is apparently going to transform the club :D

Also anyone fearing Qatar buying Liverpool now needs to calm. The Super League is imminent - with every season City winning this League another step towards them all going out and joining the likes of Bayern, Barca, Madrid... FSG know this and the Glazers know this. And so does Sir Jim.

Not only that, we also have posters saying that the Glazers may have affinity towards the club and that Woody was not a poor CEO.

That's the problem right there. No support structure in place, resulting in over £1B hemorrhaged during his tenure and an overpaid, mis-assembled, underperforming squad.

Ed Woodward was the single biggest disaster in the last 10 years for the club.

No, he did a bad job on the CEO side of things, he didn't do a bad job because he tried to play FM. He did a bad job by trying to stick to a structure that was built for SAF and is fairly rare in Football, he did a bad job by trying to please managers instead of only thinking about the club interests. By doing so he created what happens in many clubs which is that he wasted money on purchasing players for managers just to eventually sack said managers for doing a poor job and having to revamp the squad for the next manager. He acted like a cheerleader for managers more than a CEO.

I speculate that the Raine Group is selectively leaking stuff deliberately vague so that there can be a 'clarificatory' round of bidding. Their job is literally to conduct the process in a way that extracts the highest price so that's what they are doing. That means dragging it out and lots of bullshit like this. I believe it's all noise.

I do not believe Joel and Avram Glazer really want to stay on at the club but there may nevertheless be some technical legal way that they are road blocking a deal to get more money from the rest of their family. If INEOS ends up buying the club it will be through a series of cockups, internecine greed, and bluffs being called.

I agree, he was absolutely incompetent but it's not because he was playing FM.

From the Bloomberg article

Sheikh Jassim’s bid consists of the £5 billion sum that will go to the sellers if successful, plus additional amounts for club facilities and other investments, one of the people said.

People do know that INEOS’s bid was leaked to JUSTIFY the acceptance of Ratfcliff’s bid over Jassim’s lower bid.

They want you as fans to have ‘acceptance’ that it is down to purely one individual valued the club more than the other. All the while it was just that the structure of the bid allowed Joel and Avram to keep their stake. They know that the value of the club will increase without doing anything as they have someone who will pump money in and increase their investment. Pure greed.

Most wanted him to save us months ago before Qatar emerged. He was seen as knight in shining armour back then.

People have been sportswashed good and proper. This is what it boils down to.

That didn't really hamper our revenue and thus the Glazers never got rid of him.

All I am saying is any owner who has an iota of affinity towards the club they own would have fired Woody long back for his incompetence or at least set a mandate for restructuring the football operations. They did neither, so I find it hard to even hypothesise that they have any interest in the club apart from milking it as a cash cow.

£5bn to the shareholders but still not clear, if that's for the glazers 69% or the the full 100%

Also suggests it's still a world record deal for a sports team. Some on here still referring to Jassim as a bluffer

That's a silly thing to say. So people cannot ever want a better bidder to come in because they pinned their hopes on Ratcliffe a year ago?

If it was Apple or Amazon instead of Jassim and they called out that they would remove the debt from the club, would you still call it sportswashing because the fans had once hoped for Ratcliffe to get rid of the Glazers?

He's not the money behind this bid so he is a bluffer in one sense. This is a state bid dressed up as a private one.

The whole thing is a shambles and based on a lie. Probably because if they came out with it being a state bid they would be worried about it being rejected.

Utd have no need to cheat. They’ve been competing hamstrung for 15 years.

They need (and deserve) an owner who can clear the disgusting debt and mess left by the repulsive leeches and then allow the club to flourish on its own profits.

Utd aren’t the same as City or Newcastle. Utd is a giant club being bled by repugnant cretins.

It doesn’t need financial doping - it needs financial liberation.
That's my point. People say only Qatar can allow us to compete with City, as if we need that financial doping, too. If Qatar buys us, or Ineos buys us, I just want us to spend the money we earn when it comes to the squad. I don't want significant investment, except in the infrastructure.

It is all just speculation what Ineos would do with the debt, just based on them not addressing that question (or really whoever is briefing the media not addressing it). If they win and leave it on the club with no plan to remove it, they deserve all the criticism they get.
