You are technically right in a roundabout way, just one season too early. Starting 24/25, the two leagues with highest coefficient get an extra spot so a 5th placed team can benefit from other English teams doing well.

But yes, it’s our job now to make sure it’s glorious Thursday night football for them next season, and many seasons beyond, hopefully.
Man, they actually might go on and win the thing which will piss me off even more. Just want them to get in to the conference league position. They themselves would be ashamed if they win it.

We just need 1 more win. The rest will drop points. Liverpool should have had 3 draws or losses from their last 3 games. They are awful.

I’m not worried at all…but the sooner it’s mathematically done the better it will be for the FA Cup final.

I have accepted the reality that city will win the league. Need Newcastle to beat arsenal. Should not give Liverpool any opportunity to get top 4.

With Newcastle GD they only need 6 points more to reach 71 and be safe with top 4 finish. I still want Arsenal win all remaining games and hope for a miraculous slip up by City.

The Barcodes have a very healthy GD compared to the Scousers, even if they do lose 3 out of their last 5 (extremely unlikely, given that they are in a fine vein of form), I’d still bet on them finishing above Liverpool. Their fixtures are also ok, the hardest games are home games where they’ve only lost to Pool this season, and then it’s Leeds, Leicester and Chelsea who are all terrible.

Meme. His mask slipped when he said a few weeks ago that Chelsea were closer to being a top team than we are or how many people predict a Brighton will finish above us next season (Google showed no results)
It’s a waste of time talking to him
Don't bother.

He's just a WUM who hates Ten Hag. Nobody could be genuinely this negative.
You're right I just saw this in the Timber thread

Us and Newcastle need to stop Liverpool from getting in. Just hope they hang on, Liverpool are getting closer each week.

Liverpool defense is at least as bad as Aston Villa if you have watched all their game since Arsenal like me. Even against Leeds, at 0-0, 1-0, 2-0, Leeds had every chance to get back into the game if not for them being Leeds.

You just saw Liverpool blew off 3-0 lead at home.
yes- and even with that, they were incredibly lucky to win at all against Tottenham. Ball bouncing off posts and bars, blatant red card not given…They truly are the luckiest team I’ve ever seen. And still Klopp thinks they’re hard done by!

Quoting two of the least knowledgeable posters on here's nonsensical posts, and then disagreeing with me that the manager shouldn't also be the recruitment team.

What a treble. Hilarious.

Need 12 more points to absolutely secure top 4 assuming Brighton wins all rest of their games. Seems tough. Lets hope we win at Brighton and bring it to 6 points in remaining 5 matches.

Win over Brighton is absolutely crucial. Huge game.

Don't know why is it given Arsenal will beat Newcastle, especially with Newcastle hosting that game. It was a draw even at Emirates and towards the end of last season Newcastle beat them as well. I'm aware Arsenal are much better this season than last but they're in poor form atm as well.

Brighton will drop points, well at least 2 points so 72 is number of points we need for top 4 finish, provided Liverpool win their last 5.

For us to get 12 points is tough but Brighton will win all their games. Jesus

Look I think poster is sometimes overtly negative but he is overall decent poster and his point about moving away from Ten Hag being manager as well as Recruitment team is a valid one .

I'm as cautious as the next guy but some of the shite on this thread is absolutely insane.

I somewhat get people thinking that Liverpool might win their next five because their run-in isn't that difficult. However, people have simultaneously convinced themselves that we're going to find it tough not to drop points against all of Wolves, Chelsea and Fulham at home, and Bournemouth and West Ham away, whilst Brighton will be flawless in a run that includes Arsenal, Newcastle and Villa away, and City and United at home.

Yeah he's a total clown.

I tried to put him on ignore too but came up against the same problem, don't know how to put someone on ignore if they hide their profile.

Where are now people who laughed to us who were saying weeks ago that Liverpool have a shot for top 4.
They’re miles off the pace. You people act as if 7/10 points leads are nothing at all. Sure a team could collapse but it’s unlikely. Even their fans would find it a long long long shot.

11 (max points Brighton can get is 73, our GD is much worse)

Realistically, Liverpool are probably the team to worry about and the max they can get is 71. So 9 points should do it.

Thanks. So just by winning all our home games. And a couple of draws away should be fine.

Realistically, winning all our home games is going to get us into the top four even if we lose all of our away games.

Brighton still have to play us (home), Arsenal (away), Newcastle (away), City (home), and Villa (away). As strong as they've been recently, I'd be astonished if they picked up maximum points.

Yup. Making the same point in a different way:

Brighton can theoretically get to 73 points, Liverpool to 71, Spurs and Villa to 66.

All we need to be 100%, mathematically certain of CL is 74 points. If we get that, it is totally irrelevant what other teams do or don't. That's 11 points in our remaining 6 games, only one of which is against European places competition.

Only the combination of an astonishing run by a competitor and a late-season collapse in form by us would deprive us.

The way it looks, my bet is Newcastle and United will take the CL spots, Liverpool will take one of the CL spots and then it's up to Brighton how well they do with that terrifying list of remaining fixtures they have whether they let Spurs and/or Villa back in with a shout for the second EL place.

Win next three it's done and we can relax and rotate for FA Cup final .

I’m not so much worried about Brighton. It’s Liverpool that worries me. I know there quite a distant of but all there remaining games are winnable. We’ve got Brighton and West Ham away which will be tough fixtures.

Yes, but even if they win them all they won't catch us unless we drop at least 10 points in our remaining six games. All of our remaining games are winnable too.

If we beat Brighton wouldn't that be a six point swing, three points off what we need and three points off what they can get?

Indeed. In that case, their max attainable would be 70, and we'd only need 5 more points in 5 games to better that. And 6 more to better the best Liverpool can achieve.

I’d exclude Brighton in that. They can easily smash any team when they’re on it. If we get through this game without a loss then the other games should be fairly easy but we can easily have a bad game against West Ham and lose. Our performances have dropped a lot since we won the carabao cup.

I'm still annoyed at us blowing the lead against Spurs midweek. Win that game and a point away to Brighton is a good result which takes us ahead of Newcastle into 3rd. It might not matter in the grand scheme but this team really should be finishing 3rd rather than 4th this season.

Liverpool have 0.01% chance of finishing 4th. But I'm glad we're still in everyone's thoughts after our worst season in many years. :)

Using what I've learnt to be a true Redcafe poster in the past few months: I'm rooting for the blood stained, oil derived Saudis to finish 3rd. Come on you Zebras!

It's not just about maths, but also momentum. Both the Brighton and West Ham games are very loseable. Lose both and arses will be twitching, pressure on the players becomes intense, and this thread will explode.

It's imperative that somehow we get minimum 2 points out of these 2 games. Then we can look to our home games with a bit of comfort.

Personally I'm still not 100% confident. But I'm heartened that we look reasonably solid most of the time...it's just our propensity to melt in difficult moments that worries me. And the lack of goals. Look at Liverpool, absolutely average team, but the fact they've always got goals in them gets them out of jail time and time again.

If Liverpool is who we're fighting, nine points is all we need. Again, we can lose all of our away games as long as we're perfect at home.

Honestly, though, I don't think it'll come to that. I think from Brighton, West Ham, and Bournemouth away we will probably get at least one win. I also think it's somewhat unlikely that Liverpool will end the season with five straight wins. Their games are all very winnable, but they've also looked vulnerable even when they've won recently.

I know they're not great but with Leicester probably needing every point they can get to stay up this season, I could see Liverpool's game at the King Power being trickier than everyone is anticipating. Equally, although I'd expect Liverpool to beat all of them at Anfield, I do think there's a potential banana skin in one of Fulham, Brentford and Aston Villa. All will be after a spot in Europe and they're all capable of strong performances against pretty much anyone.

Honestly though, even if Liverpool finish the season perfectly I'd be immensely disappointed if we couldn't get nine points out of Brighton, West Ham and Bournemouth away combined with Wolves, Chelsea and Fulham at home.

It won't matter if we lose to Brighton AND West Ham if we win the rest. We're then four ahead of Liverpool and two ahead of Brighton even if they win all of their remaining. And if we're talking of winnable (in the sense of "games you'd normally expect to win"), Brighton has only two of those left.
