Are you on acid?

You need to leave the house more.

Personally, I think you're wrong here. And yes, if you put ddg into a team as well drilled at playing from the back then I think he would perform as well as city's reserve gk did today. Are you seriously suggesting that city's reserve keeper is a better keeper than ddg?

Watch this and tell me he chose the right pass available to him each time. Regardless it doesn't matter - he will be gone now I am sure and good riddance too. Just another player that's been here 5 years too long.

A few times yesterday you could see our players visibly frustrated with De Gea's distribution. Might be the first time i've noticed that. He was the single biggest contributor to City's possession.   I just do not understand the logic in giving this guy a renewal. Terrible goalkeeper. I would literally start Kovar ahead of him

Calling out statistical weak links doesn’t make you a hater btw
Yeah, it's a weird defence when people pull that card. DDG is in our top ten all time list of appearances for United. Most sensible people would say he's had some really good years at United. But it's time to move on and calling out his weaknesses as a player is not hating, it's just pointing out the obvious.

I want him to go because I am bored of us arguing about him every week. At the very least I want someone new to argue about.

I’m not even angry about his performance today because it was everything I expected. A big game, a final, you just know De Gea is inevitably going to let you down. It’s as predictable as night follows day. I think I’m just numb to it now. We’re verging on the point where he’s had as many poor to average seasons as he has good ones. He’s been an absolute liability since the his pinnacle of the 17/18 season. Since then he hasn’t had a single good season and instead has continually let us down in the big games. When the going gets tough, De Gea gets going. Spain realised this years ago and binned him off after the 2018 WC. We’re here five years later about to give him another contact. We’ll never be a successful team with De Gea in goal. Just as we haven’t been for the majority of his time here.

Let alone the last 5 years. He's whole career here is based on him saving us from problems we wouldn't have if he wasn't our keeper, he's just getting worse on it with time.

Utter hyperbolic nonsense. You don’t win the golden glove being one of the worst keepers in the league. He got 17 clean sheets, closest to him were Alison, Pope and Ramsdale on 14. Henderson got 6, and the man some tip to replace him, Raya, got 12. League winning Ederson kept 11 clean sheets.
Mate, you need to understand that just about any keeper on the planet would have saved both Gundogan shots on goal, that but for De Gea’s incompetence we would have kept a Chesnut sheet and beaten City 1-0 and that De Gea is a disgrace to the shirt and whatever crackpipe ETH is smoking that has deluded him into wanting to keep De Gea must be immediately confiscated.

In his last year Ten Hag's Ajax won the league Scoring 98 goals and conceeding 19, a goal difference of 79 in 34 games.

He did this by monopolising possesion to maximise his chances created and minimising shots faced - very much from the school of Pep.

Ciy conceeded 33 and scored 94 this year with very similar figures of Ten Hags Ajax.

Ajax also had 23 clean sheets from those 34 games.

This year Ten Hag has constructed a decent back 4 and midfield screen in front and this attracts clean sheets where we an boss the possention. This year this has been against teams in the bottom half of the table.

We have kept 17 clean sheets this year:
13 clean sheets in 19 games against teams in the bottom half and 5 clean sheets were against the relegated 3.
We kept 4 clean sheets in home games against Spurs, Newcastle, Brentford and Villa from the top 10. We Kept no clean sheets in away games v the top 10.

There is a kind of symmetry to our clean sheets this year - where they are where you would expect - against the worst teams who make the least chances. This does suggest the Clean sheets this year are a team effort, as it cannot be right the Degea can only save shots from crap teams. Degea having an on or off day would give more random results.

So the Degea fans quoting clean sheets are claiming a team effort as his own personal success should think again. Even I can keep a clean sheet if a crap team never gets a shot.
He is 9th for percent of shots saved his best stat - every other goalkeeping stat he is bottom of all the tables.
Where was he for the 7 nil against Liverpool - 8 shots on target, 7 goals and one blocked by Martinez?

Ten Hag is a Pep Clone and now needs to evolve his team. He has implemented a solid team defending structure with the defence and midfield, but now needs to implement the attacking element, where the Keeper sweeps and the defence have a high line on halfway enabling us to attack and press with 5, 6 or 7 players and get 90 goals a season like Ajax did and City do. Incidentaly, Brighton play this way and have had the most shots in the League this year with a squad bought on a shoestring.

We clearly need a sweeper keeper for Ten Hag and Man united to evolve - sorry David.

Has David De Gea ever had a heroic cup final in his time with us? Seems like he loves crumbling in big and important games. He is always poor in cup finals, international tournaments and UCL knock outs (bar vs real madrid in 12-13)

Need to get rid of him if we need to move forward.

The say that "you must be a top goalkeeper if you won the golden gloves" is ludicrous. De Gea conceded joint 3rd least goals in the league (43) this year but we had fecking Roy Carroll who conceded 2nd least goals in the league (26 goals) in 04-05. Does it make Roy Carroll anywhere close to world class? Goals conceded and cleansheets are determined by many factors, not just the GK's ability. De Gea's saving % and xGA is kinda average indeed.

Joe Hart/Reina were hardly world class but they won multiple golden gloves too.

He’s not the only reason why we lost our games. We need a better midfield and a striker to partner Rashford who can stay fit and not WW. Depending solely on DDG will probably mostly mean we win games 1-0 and park the bus. We need to start outscoring opponents again.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

He's clearly better on the ball. You seriously think you could have just swapped keepers and De Gea would have been pinging it around and playing nice intricate passing?

Haven't seen anywhere near enough of him to know whether he's better all-round, but it'd hardly be surprising. Our own reserve keeper was better than De Gea when he got a run out for a few months a couple of years ago. Our other reserve keeper (Romero) was also better in his appearances, albeit they tended to be against weaker opposition so it wasn't a perfect comparison.

More rubbish. Crumbles in the biggest games apart from when he saves a penalty in the last game of the season to secure CL footy and 3rd place.
De Gea has made an unacceptable amount of mistakes over the last five years, and a significant amount of them have come in high pressure games. There's about five cup competitions we've been knocked out of in that time directly because of his mistakes, and also at least once he cost us top four. Not to mention him shitting the bed for Spain to the point he's now 5th choice at best.

We already had guaranteed a CL spot when it came to the last game of this season. Even if not, nobody is saying he shits the bed in EVERY high pressure game, just that he's shown it's a very high risk. As shown by the fact that a number of people called it happening again today and got proven right. It wasn't guaranteed but there was a higher chance of it happening than what we should be expecting.

It's what makes the 'signing a new keeper is dangerous because he might not be able to handle the pressure of Man Utd' argument so poor. De Gea these last five years is already doing what the likes of Barthez, Howard, Carroll and Foster got sold for. A combination of people being sentimental because of his previous good form and our standards dropping so low has just allowed it to carry it on for half a decade now, whereas they all only got a year or two.

That's exactly it from my perspective. I think we have more important positions, like striker, or in the midfield that are far more difficult to carry through a season than a less than desirable keeper. If we had unlimited funds I would say go all in for that Diogo Costa or whoever, or if there was an option like how Milan signed Maignan for 15 million or so, I would say go for that too. Unfortunately we don't have unlimited funds so in my opinion its better to prioritize getting at least one striker in as well as a midfielder, and hopefully a backup defender for Varane. Once we have those then next year go all in for the best keeper you can, because we can at least carry De Gea over the line for a year.
I just don't understand how a back-up defender, when we already have Lindelof who is an acceptable back-up, can possibly be ahead of keeper in the order of importance. It would be nice to have, but the defender should only be NEEDED a small handful of games a season (and even that is ignoring the option of Shaw moving into that position) whereas the keeper impacts us every game of the season.

One striker, yes. Midfielder and keeper are about equal in the next most important roles.

Just in case anyone wants to look at this again. He's not been good enough for a while now and he has always been piss poor at collecting crosses or coming off his line. He along with Martial should be really leaving in the summer. Their time has come to an end sadly.

The first goal was great he had no hope and the second rolled down gundogans leg through a crowded box. Only person you can criticise de gea is Schmeichel.

the ones using xg as a credible stat have never kicked a ball in their lives.

His #1 ability, the jungle cat reflexes, aren't what they used to be. Couple that with the abilities that were always average or below - claiming crosses, organizing the back line, commanding the box, distribution - which are getting worse and you have a keeper taking away more from the team than he's adding.

We're unlikely to ever find a keeper with his peak shot stopping abilities again, but that version of DDG is gone anyway. So what we currently have, with his diminishing strengths and increasing weaknesses, is holding the team back. We can't afford to lose the ball 80-90% of the time because he can't pick out a pass from the back and has to resort Iow-probability hoofballs. The shot stopping just isn't worth it anymore.

Typical big game De Gea performance today. But dipshits would have you believe he’s a United Legend
Dipshits because you hold a different opinion? Classy as ever. Why is your posting style so confrontational and aggressive?

He very much did have a hope for the first goal. It was 25 yards out, well-struck but not a rocket, and was well within his reach.

And the 2nd goal was a joke.

His feet were just rooted to the spot all game. For shots, crosses, through balls, everything. It's like he had stage fright or something, and couldn't move.

First goal was a great strike, no problem with that. 2nd he did seem to see it late but De Gea at his best could absolutely have turned that round. And given his weaknesses as a goalkeeper in other areas its sad when his one strength, shot stopping, is questionable.

De Gea has been a great servant of the club and one of my favorite players for the past 10 years. Seems like a good lad as well. He isn't the problem... but he is a problem. One that needs to be solved this summer. His presence is stretching our defense far too much. The CBs are caught between pushing up the field and staying back to protect him, which immediately throws a wrench into any attacking style we aspire to play. He just doesn't bring the necessary security and control in the back.

We need someone else.

Did you not think he could have at least moved to try and save that 1st goal? It was well struck, but not a rocket, and was well outside the penalty area. He just watched it float in. His foot movement (or lack of it) is f**king terrible.

We're going to get more of the same if we stick with him. More rooted to the spot, watching goals sail past him, and people saying "that was unstoppable".

Loved the majority of the time De Gea has spent at the club. Not even close to being in the De Gea is shite camp, but he's the last of an era where shot stopping was enough. Football has changed unfortunately and I think it's time we let dave go.
2013-2018 yes. De Gea has been average to bad from 2019-2023.

Also DDGs weaknesses has nothing to do with modern football. Sweeping and claiming crosses/set pieces have been goalkeeping basics for decades.

Raya is the goalkeeper that has faced the second most shots in the Premier League this season, and he is also the one with the most saves. The fact he has only 5 less clean sheets than De Gea is unbelievable. His role in Brentford ending up where they did is massive. That's before the other areas where he is far, far superior to De Gea.

De Gea is the 16th goalkeeper in shots faced, and is 15th in saves.

Keane's been banging on this drum for a couple of years now.

Forget what De Gea has done for us in the distant past. United fans seem to think being sentimental and "loyal" to players was how we were successful in the past. No, we were ruthless. Ask Keane himself, Jim Leighton, Strachan, Sharpe, Kanchelskis, Hughes, Ince, Stam, Beckham, Butt and Ruud. Hell, Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke were out of the club 3 years after winning the treble. The likes of Giggs and Scholes stayed with us for so long because they were putting up deserving performances that played big parts in our success. Look at City, where's Raheem Sterling playing these days? Cancelo?

Extending De Gea's contract will annoy me much more than losing yesterday's game. We were underdogs in that game. With De Gea's contract, at least it's in our hands.
