Wonder what a REALISTIC Target would be for a player like this coming in to be the main man. 15PL goals?

Hojlund won't be on penalties and only two players in the PL scored more than 17 non-penalty goals in the league last year. Expecting a player with his experience level to come in and produce at the level of one of the best 9s in the PL is not realistic. Given his experience level something like 11-12 league goals would be reasonably good output.

He struggled a lot against stronger teams and better defenders, as one can see from every touch videos posted earlier in this thread and also from his output (1 goal in 12 matches across all comps against teams in the top 8 in Serie A). Nothing embarrassing about that, he is a raw talent.

20 minimum I reckon with the likes of Bruno in the team
20 PL goals in a debut season? Tough ask

for context these are the players who have scored 20 PL goals in a season for United

Robin van Persie (2012/13), Wayne Rooney (2009/10, 2011/12), Dimitar Berbatov (2010/11), Ronaldo (2007/08), Ruud van Nistelrooy (2001/02, 2002/03, 2003/04, 2005/06), Dwight Yorke (1999/2000)

Have to disagree unfortunately, 20 goals would be a realistic target for Kane. Not a young player in his first season in a new division and country.

Good Christ! Ruud was an absolute unit.

Whatever striker we sign, we need them to immediately hit the ground running. If they go a few games without scoring then they'll end up on the bench and we'll be back where we started.
I'd say Ten Hag wants to striker to fit his system, the lad has the right attributes to do so. If Wout can get regular games, then obviously goals aren't the deciding factor, someone who can create spaces for other and fit the system are more important to the team as a hole. If he can get 10 goals he'll have surpassed the combined output of Wout & Tony last season...

Let’s face it, the bar to beat is not very high for CFs this year at United. So even if he scored 10-12 it would be an improvement

Not the static type, this lad. At some point could fit into Garnacho's no fear physical/dynamic style of play. Both seem to prefer charging at defenders, when there's occasion.

Now it's been reported we've ended Kane pursuit, it really looks likely it will be Hojlund and a cheaper more experienced forward

We have Martial who is good for 8-9 games a season... :wenger:

They need to be very experienced, otherwise that's going to be too much pressure on his shoulders

Sad but true, but I think we need more than that to challenge for the title. Höjlund would still be a very shrewd signing.

I've yet to hear anyone actually mention a name of this "experienced" striker we could sign, Kane is the only name that was thrown about and that's not happening.

Ben Yedder, though we've never seemed to be remotely interested in him. He's averaged about 20 goals a season for the last decade

This is looking like the most realistic ST signing this summer. Will also mean we can bring in more targets as this won’t take much of the budget.

I’m not liking our chances next season already.
Chances of what? If you thought we'd be able to sign enough players of the right quality to bridge the gap with City this summer, then you were being incredibly optimistic to begin with.

Little finger is right on this one. Hojlund won’t suffice. Too much pressure on the kid

I don't see a scenario where we only sign Hojlund, we'll probably spend some time looking at better versions of a Weghorst type experienced player too. You also have to consider we might not be able to sell Martial

Højlund has all the attributes to become a superstar, but at 20 there will be ups and downs. He will go on scoring sprees for a couple of games and then go five games without a goal. He will need someone to cover for him when he goes missing. I would prefer someone like Füllkrug or Choupo-Moting, but it will probably end up being Rashfords or Martials job. I think that 10-15 league goals are realistic, and yes, I have watched him. He is raw, but the speed in which he has developed is ridiculous. 18 months ago FC Copenhagen did´nt believe in him. Now he is the prime candidate for the United number 9. It is no coincidence, that he is on the radar at a lot of Europes finest clubs. Speed is his x-factor. Højlunds correct 100 m time at Atalanta was actually 10,8 and not 11 seconds.

Højlund this year, Evan Ferguson or Kane the next

For those that have watched him, can he play in different positions/roles, like Number 10 or on the wings? Perhaps Rashford can again take most of the goal-scoring burden and let this kid get games under his belt/experience. I'm pretty sure no one will be expecting him to hit 20+ goals just yet.

He can play wider too because of his speed but you'd be wasting a lot of his attributes by playing him there, he won't be any better than the wingers we have
