my 15 year old likes nothing at all. Has a slight interest in MCU, as he used to be my +1 but has now dumped me. He watches the odd one on Disney plus.

Doesnt have much interest in Man Utd although does still wear their tops. Even music I dont even know what he likes. Whatever it is he isnt a huge fan of anything. No TV shows and even video games. Outside of FIFA and Fortnight would never play a single player game like Last of Us etc...

I actually dont know what him and his mates even talk about
Heh. Yeah. I can relate to that. It’s really interesting the way they consume stuff so differently to how we did. My son (14) is exactly the same with his PS. Could play Fortnight or FIFA online with his friends all day and all night but zero interest in any single player game. He goes to the cinema occasionally, watches films round his friends house but isn’t really into anything he watches. Not the way I was at his age. He couldn't care less about music. His sister (12) kind of likes music. In a very general way. But neither her nor any of her friends are passionate about any one artist. They just have passing interests in whichever tune is the soundtrack to the latest Tiktok dance. I think the way they listen to music means they probably won't ever be fans of any one artist. Couldn't be more different to their parents at the same age, whose whole sense of identity was wrapped up in their music of choice. Maybe that will change as they get older and Taylor Swift whining about her ex will connect with them at some deep, emotional level? It's not looking that way for now anyway.

Highly doubt that honestly. There will be a split in the demographic which favors one side or the other after a certain age. You say people know more Elton songs but he's literally been around for much, much longer.

I'm 29 and I could barely name more than 2-3 Elton John songs but could easily tell you 10 Taylor Swift songs.
I think there is validity in your argument about demographics but Elton John is not a good example. He's kept very active over the decades and collaborating with younger stars on his old songs like Dua Lipa. Not just give permission for them to cover his songs. So that's how he reaches a new audience of young people.

A better example IMO would be James Taylor who I liken to being the Ed Sheeran of his day in the 70s but who I doubt many young people today will recognise. He still performs now but smaller venues and I imagine most of the audience were people who grew up on his music as teenagers or in their 20s all those decades ago.

I guess I'll contrast that with my 12 year old girl, mad as shit BlackPink fan, verging on obsessive (tbf they are pretty good in places she's got good taste) mad for Marvel, Harry Potter etc, could tell you anything you'd want to know about either

Yet to watch Elton's set, but I'm sure it'll make it into my top 10 of the weekend when I do.

Here's a song from 8 of the current top 10 for now. There doesn't seem to be a song from the Shame or Fred Again.. sets uploaded yet for some reason, they'd be in there too otherwise.

Hmm I might have to rethink my plans for next year. What a pile of nothingnness.
I saw Sam Fender last night and he was decent but he only played 15 songs and two of those were covers, there is zero chance he'll be a headliner next year. I'd not be confident in Dua Lipa having enough to headline yet either, needs at least one more album of hits. I'm fairly sure Emily Eavis said they've two female headliners booked for next year already, So Taylor and Rihanna could be decent shouts. I doubt they'll have Coldplay again so soon after the last time. My mind has been set on Springsteen but that may just be wishful thinking.

Anyway, if you've been before, you'll know that the headliners are just a bonus, the real enjoyment is elsewhere!

Exactly, I have never gone to Glasto on the basis of any act / artist beyond my first visit in 1994 to see Orbital.

I doubt many of my top times there have even been down to the music.

You seem to know a hell of a lot more about new music than me (or, indeed, anyone on the caf!) so was looking forward to working through your list.
Ground to a halt on this one It's.... absolutely terrible? Sort of "Kylie does Eurovision" poppy nonsense. Is she well respected as a musician?

Well to be fair I'd be liable to get totally distracted by something else I'd unexpectedly wandered into and not make it anywhere near the headliner.

I unfortunately can't choose what songs they upload to YouTube, but I would say this is one of her weaker songs. Her set was incredible though, a lesson in not just performing, but putting on a show. She also called out that prick from the 1975 for being the racist piece of shit he is halfway through her set and then played a cover of Limp Bizkit's Break Stuff, which was simply iconic.

Anyway, is she well respected? The fact she was one of Elton John's four guests last night would suggest so!

I'd pay to see it.
Me too, but read today that Jonny Marr is really pissed about that set because he wasn’t informed. He’s apparently spoke to the relevant people and “sorted it” whatever that means. So I think any hopes of RA and the Blossoms touring with that are out of the window. But apparently Morrisey loved it so who knows.

Yep. Her debut album from 2020:

The broad and buzz-y term hyperpop applies here. Thus this mix of Britney and Korn:

That's weird. They toured together in 2021 performing Smiths songs, so not sure why he'd have an issue all of a sudden.

I've enjoyed it more this year than I have in a while. Cat Stevens was the high point for me
Same here.
Closely followed by a group of unknown singers.
The group of unknown singers who so brilliantly stood in for Lewis Capaldi when he was struggling to complete Someone You Loved. A real high point for me and well done to them all.

What a dead and soulless list. Rhianna is hot and that’s about it! God help Glasto 2024 if it’s hanging on that lot. Get the drugs in!
Taylor Swift would probably be alright but you'd have to pay me to watch the rest. Get Pulp headlining.

I could see that being a great party. Saw them a few times all those years ago and it was always a great show. Fast forward 20 years and sprinkle some nostalgia on an already cool gig and you got magic.

Apologies, he's an idiot who makes racially motivated jokes about Asian people on podcasts. My mistake.

Apparently 7.6 million watched Elton last night, McCartney’s Saturday performance on BBC One had a peak audience of 3.9 million last year.
A record 21.6m people, over a third of the UK population, watched the BBC’s Glastonbury TV coverage this year.

Those viewing figures are well deserved but not too surprising - with Elton, you get Elton (apart from that one song by the Chris Isaak/Lana Del Rey lovechild last night). With Macca, you are generally just waiting to get through the solo stuff before he does another Beatles song.

Maybe not an all time classic Glastonbury but the pandemic is still recent enough in the memory for me to appreciate the fact these festivals are on again.

Rick and Blossoms stole the weekend, an unreal set. Elton aside, Hozier is incredible and by far the tightest all-round singer and musician I watched.

Have watched that Black Country, New Road set twice today. Special, special band.

Viagra Boys, Scandinavia's worst band, also smashed it.
