My Onana to the tune of My Sharona.

Side note: I never realized how pervy the lyrics to the original song are.

I don't see how this doesn't get done by the end of the week, we seem more eager than when we were negotiating for Mount

Edit: I swear Twitter just doesn't work properly at all these days

Will he go on tour do you reckon?

I’d imagine if the club have fully decided on him then we want him in as soon as possible to integrate with the team.

Pre season will be very important to practice the patterns of play that are needed in playing out from the back.

Laurie is in the same boat as the other UK journos, they’ll either tell us what United want us to know, or they’ll confirm transfer news that has already broken elsewhere (usually a day or so later).

Ornstein is the only guy consistently and reliably breaking transfer news in the UK.
That’s giving Laurie a bit too much credit. There’s been no advantage in saying we have a 100m budget when it wasn’t factored in at all with Mount while Onana transfer seems to have been pretty smooth in negotiations so far.
Sometimes it’s not a brief but a journo having a shocker. It started with claiming Glazers didn’t want to sell but wanted minority investment instead. He stayed well away from takeover ITK after that

Would be nice to know his approximate wages. What do good keepers these days earn?
With the 200k cap and DDGs unique 375kpw contract, we upgrade the position and probably save millions in wages per year to

There's no way we can afford a striker if we sign Onana. Are we considering bringing back Voldemort?

I think he started spouting nonsense even before that, I remember some time before the season ended he said something like “United situation this summer is sell to buy”. He was still at it last week too.

He’s definitely having a weird time lately.

Yeah, not Laurie but have a look at this. Another reporter who was pushing 100m and can’t back out from it.

When he signs that frees up Henderson to leave and any thought of keeping DDG around to bed...15-20 million from the Henderson transfer plus around 450k+ a week on wages saved would make the transfer of Onana feel relatively good business.

I would say getting Onana in for pre-season is more crucial than a ST at this stage. Changing how we build up from the back is our biggest problem and much harder than the final third, where actually we aren’t terrible.

I know we complain about being slow. But getting Onana and Mount in before pre-season tour is actually pretty good going, especially given the takeover uncertainty.

Just need to actually sign the fecker now.

Yep hopefully once Onana is done, Henderson moves on swiftly. I assume ETH didn’t want to risk going into pre-season with only 2 keepers.

Agreed. Factor in that we will also likely be selling Fred and I expect Elanga to move on shortly and that plus Henderson would easily cover another signing after Onana. If we get really ambitious and sell Scott and a few other fringe players we could even be looking at two more signings after Onana.

I agree, this is what makes me nervous. There is too much focus on playing out from the back and not enough on how the player is between the sticks, which should be his primary function.
Remember folks, goalkeepers are goalkeepers because they can’t play football. :nervous:
The game has progressed past that point. Goalies should be excellent on the ball if you want to beat a team that presses.

I'm no rocket scientist but if the bid is official then it's curtains for De Gea.

Why are Inter willing to let him go?

I think this or Costa have to be the ones to go for if we want to nail down a top quality ball playing keeper. Everything else looks a compromise..

We need to get it done. Then scrimp and save and sell whatever we can to get a striker in. I don't care how we have to leverage or structure those deals, I'm not arsed if we're paying for the next 18 years, just get those two done and then that's the bulk of what we needed sorted and hopefully brighter times are ahead when we're sold and eventually the finances will address themselves. At this point it is not going to be an ideal summer in these circumstances, it's going to be making the best of a shite situation with our ownership, but a mid, keeper and striker would do a lot to strengthen this side. 3 fecking signings, I don't want to see a keeper plucked out of Holland for 3 signings. Get the best available.

We will have sales imo, and if we pay for a striker we might spread the cost over 2 or 3 seasons or loan with obligation to loan its where accountants will need to get creative

We can't afford Kane or osimhen anyway, and the only 3 other semi realistic options who we have been linked with are Hojlund, Taremi and Ramos. Hojlund and Ramos would need sales to make happen, we can probably do taremi without sales. No idea who is even viable as a loan. Neymar and then to use Rashford up top?

But either way it's not a huge difference. We need both. Much rather do Taremi and Onana than Hojlund and no goalkeeper.

To the people who have watched a decent amount of both players, who would you prefer out of Onana and Costa? I guess either we were never in for Costa or have been priced out of the move?

Have to say i was pretty impressed by Onana's footwork in the champions league final. Night and day difference between our FA cup final goalkeeper's performance.

Costa looks a good keeper on paper, but whenever I’ve seen him in a pressure game he’s shit the bed and looked nervous as hell. I personally don’t think he has the confidence/mentality to be a United keeper, whereas Onana certainly does not lack the right mindset
