Mad. Ferguson has already shown he can do it in the PL. There's no comparison for me.
Not really how things work though, is it? The lad has only played 950 minutes in PL.

Also, there are too many examples of strikers who have "shown they can do it in PL" only to turn into nothing.

Yeah I dont think the comparison is very clear cut at all. Obviously we've all seen more of Ferguson and feel that hype a bit more.

Even if we wanted Ferguson he’s decided to sign a new contract which probably prices him out of a move for the next 5 years anyway.

And has almost as many PL goals as højlund has Serie A goals despite twice the appearances and being two years younger.

And of course there are, but there are far more examples of players bought outside of the PL with promising traits and stats who can't cut it.

Neither are a sure thing but højlund is a far bigger gamble.

The hallmarks of a United striker beloved by all fans has deteriorated down to -

- don't be lazy
- don't be a crock
- don't get charged with rape and battery
- don't have an opinion on non-sports issues

Scoring goals is probably in the top 10, but no higher than fifth reason.
Pretty much. Sort of insane that fans of one of the biggest clubs in the world with so many legendary players can still accept lack of quality if someone has graft... but here we are. Weghorst would have gotten boos by game 3 at the Bernabeu

He also plays for a much more attacking, direct and dominating team as opposed to Atalanta. Brighton create chances after chances, so obviously much easier to get a goal as a striker who occupies the opponent's box.

Absolutely. Anyway, it's a bit of a pointless discussion as Ferguson is not available, unfortunately.

The Athletic did a good piece on Kane clones and/or Osimhen alternates. With all these names it seems a little odd we haven’t been linked with many/any. Does the Athletic writer know more or less than our scouts? I was surprised Hojland was on neither chart.

And

This article assumes Kane is our dream signing and Osimhen second but both unaffordable.

Lots of players there that are not good enough or have other reasons why they shouldn't be considered.

I'm not sure I agree with this. Kane isn't fast at all, and he's one of the most successful strikers in the Premier League. He is strong, of course, and has excellent hold-up play, but for a 20 year old striker, so does Højlund. He is absolutely fast enough for PL.

He might not be strong enough yet, but he has very good work rate, got great intensity in his play and according to staff, he has a warrior mentality and attitude.
Put him in the gym and he'll be strong as an ox in no time. Not that he really needs to be, as his hold-up play is pretty good (think Martial - not particularly strong, but very difficult to get the ball off of him when he has his back to goal) and very quick.
You didn't understand what I said. I said to play as a #9 you'd need to be extremely fast. Or strong enough. As we agree he's not strong enough yet so he'd need to be extremely fast. Problem here is he has some decent pace but definitely not extremely fast. He's simply not ready yet for the PL atm imo.

And under ETH we have moved from counter attacking football to possession based football. In this new system for a #9 pace is not really important anymore but he has to be at least able to hold the ball under pressure, can pass and bring the other forwards into the play and outmuscle the defenders to get into the position to score. And of course know how to finish. That's why despite having almost no pace Kane is perfect for ETH.

It's not easy as you say put him in the gym and he'd get strong as an ox in no time. And you gotta balance your weight, your agility and your pace. It's very rare to find a striker who is tall, big, strong and also fast. That's why despite having a pretty shit first touch Haaland is still a monster.

Hojlund might get bigger in the gym but not surely stronger. For example Lukaku looked like a beast when he was 15 yo and everyone thought he'd become the next Drogba. I'm sure he hit the gym as well but if you watched him when he was with us you'd know despite looking huge he got bullied all the time by the PL defenders and always lost the ball being challenged by them. And Hojlund so far has proved his hold up is ok in the Serie A only. Where Lukaku could pretty much bully the defenders there. The PL is simply much more physical and difficult.

I really hope developing a top #9 would be simple and easy as you said but unfortunately it's not.

Read the article to see the metrics. They are talking about the way they play, not necessarily being as clinical (or even as effective). Is it the cool thing to shit on The Athletic now without even reading?
Fbref's lists of similar players to Kane and Osimhen are more believable.

A regular watcher of Italian football on another forum I'm on doesn't think he's ready for a Man Utd move. He needs at least another season before he can make the move.
Weghorst is not a fan favourite. People liked him initially but he didn't score enough goals so people didn't like him in the end. Similar to this Hojlund guy. Gonna start out well then flame out.

He's not ready.
I agree with your assessment.
Atalanta isnt letting him go on the cheap anyway. We’re getting fleeced over 30m (plus add ons).

To be fair, if you take away the shooting, the passing, the technique and the ability, then Darwin Nunez is pretty similar to Harry Kane.

You’re arguing with the Athletic, not me. So a choice between professional sports data analysts or some random guy on the internet…
The fact you’re blindly going with it despite anyone with an ounce of football knowledge being able to see it’s complete bollocks is funny. I’m guessing The Athletic are fully expecting bids of £80-100m for Balogun similar to Kane?

No. I included the charts as alternatives to Hojland, since people had asked. I find the list surprising for several reasons, but the list is based on metrics.

There’s a very good reason why we’re not chasing any of those names on that list. Absolutely nothing surprising about it. I’d rather have Kim Min Jae as striker than some of those options.

given the price of Kane and the unwillingness of Levy to negotiate...same as Osimhen, this kid is the best option out there for the price and age UNLESS Dušan Vlahović is made available to a relative fee
