"Martial...He's isolated Skrtel here..."
Weghorst is not a fan favourite. People liked him initially but he didn't score enough goals so people didn't like him in the end. Similar to this Hojlund guy. Gonna start out well then flame out.

He's not ready.
It's not similar at all as they're completely different players and profiles. Making the comparison besides "both are strikers" is beyond daft. And who would you prefer that you think is "ready"?

And yes Weghorst was, even go back to the cup final when many were praying for him to come on and score. There's never been a worse footballer at the club that had more good will.

Hopefully not - it’s unwise to purchase 30 year olds for huge money. Much better to spend SUCH monies for younger talent
The younger talent will barely score 15 goals. Kane will damn near guarantee it. We don't need potential up front. We need a hard proven goalscorer.

There are few strikers available that would improve us a lot more than Højlund. I'm not saying they wouldn't do better than him, but for it to be worth paying £30m now for a more experienced striker and then £60-70m for a young striker in 1-2 years, he has to be a lot better than Højlund.
If he's not, we may as well just go for Højlund and play him. He has great potential and will be fed chances after chances. As opposed to Weghorst, he actually has got pace to burn and goal instincts.

I believe English contingent at this forum may agree, but being not English, I think Osimhen would be a much better purchase

That said, obviously either of those improves the current squad significantly

Not with United. With our sales record, he'll end up playing out his contract and leave on a free regardless.

You're forgetting a crucial thing here, and that is Kane is not available to us this summer.
I'm aware of that. I hope I'm wrong about this lad or any other striker that's not Osimhen or Kane. I just hope he performs well.

So are you gonna be assassinating Levy tonight? If not, there is no way he will sell Kane to us.

While you are assassinating him, please do grab at least 50 million from his coffers too, because we still won't have the money to sign him even if your assassination plan is successful.

Thanks for the insight i'm glad you are a Manchester United scout

Then what, we sit and spin all summer whilst waiting for a non existant transfer to happen because we don't have the money and Levy won't sell to us? Maybe we should sign Osimhen? Oh wait he's even more expensive than Kane.

You can say whatever you want about whether Hojlund is good enough or not but you lack credibility when you just say oh we should be signing Kane instead as if ETH and everyone at United haven't tried or wouldn't prefer Kane even though that's all anyone has reported all summer.

This is our where our budget extends, ETH apparently wants him and he has potential, I'm not sure what more anyone else wants or why people are so sure he will flop

We all love United
Think we are very likely to keep Martial for another year as the senior striker while allowing this lad to develop and settle as the season progresses

Some of the quotes I've read about him from footballers/managers are astonishing. Obviously they are going to be aware of young special talents but it really is quite exciting to go after a player where legends of the game have so much to say about him so early on in his career.

Gian Piero Gasperini:
'One day I will tell my grandchildren that I trained Rasmus Højlund. With Rasmus you have to speak to him in small doses and listen carefully to the little that he says. Don't write about him, don't try to understand how he does it, just watch him.'

Xavi Hernández:
'It's clear that Højlund is a distinct level above the rest. Those that don't know how to see it are blind.'

Arsène Wenger:
'Højlund is a footballer from a Play Station game. Things that are impossible to do, he makes them possible.'

Zlatan Ibrahimović:
'I already know which footballer will take my place and his name is Rasmus Højlund. He has something different to all other footballers. He is a leader that is an example to everyone.'

Peter Schmeichel:
'Højlund is the Mozart of football.'

Roberto Mancini:
'Every time we watch Rasmus play, we remember the days of playing football in the playground at school, a flashback in time.'

Michael Laudrup:
'I thank God every day that Højlund is Danish.'

We do - but not a 30 year old who will cost us about £200 million over the next 5 years, and have zero value afterwards

Agree this lad got some pace but imo he is still not fast enough for the PL. Same with his strength. To play as a #9 in the PL you gotta be extremely fast or strong enough to keep the balls under pressure. Preferably both. This lad got both pace and strength but atm it's still not enough for the PL imo. He might though, in a couple years. But that's still an big if. Morata is not a bad striker, but both his pace and strength are only average that's whe he failed in the PL. Poor guy got bullied all the time that I actually felt bad for him.

I'm not against buying Hojlund. But not for what Atalanta is asking. A decent fee and some add ons would be more acceptable here imo.

100m and he's ours I reckon. Unless Bayern decide to offer +80m. Money talks after all. He's available to whoever has the cash. We apparently don't have it though.

Anyway according to the recent reports ETH seems to really want to reintroduce Greenwood back. And by the last report it seems he has a big say in this apparently. A decision would be made soon I think. ETH needs to prepare for the season and he needs to start working now.

Imo even if Greenwood is back we would still buy Hojlund if the price is fair. By then Atalanta might reduce their asking price as well since imo the true reason why they got greedy is we desperately need a #9 atm.

That sounds like a grand plan. Right up until half hour into our first game of the season.
Less of a plan and more an acceptance of the reality that Martial on 250K a week is not going anywhere with 1 year left on his contract, nobody else is going to give him even half of that.

The one possible positive is that the world of sport, not just football, is full of examples of the contract year phenomenon. A player about to become a free agent frequently produces performances far superior to their career average, the trick is to not fall for it and give them a new deal and let some other poor sucker make that mistake. Hopefully Martial bangs in 20 goals in all comps and then fecks off next summer.

Hojlunds first touch looks absolutely awful. I remember Haaland being predicted as the white lukaku - but it wouldnt surprise me for hojlund to be the one.

Yeah, we live in hope. To think of Martial as a 'senior' anything just boggles the mind. A senior waste of space maybe.

If you look like an above average striker at 20 years old then you are doing something right. And unless a player is 30 years old, you always gamble on potential while you always gamble on fit regardless of the age or level of a player.
Can't disagree with any of this, but the main point was he doesn't look like an elite striker right now. Understandable why the club is in for him.

What are the examples of an “elite striker” in your book, apart from Kane, Mbappe, Benzema, Lewandowski and Osimhen?

Of course I understand the reasoning to send Greenwood out on loan, but it all seems rather childish. There are known rapists that continued playing without having to take breaks. Greenwood is not the first player to have done something bad, but we really do not know what exactly happened, the kid is young and deserves a proper second chance in my opinion, without having to go on loan. Cantona? His kick. Rooney? The prostitute. Giggs? Unspeakable. Antony? Potentially hitting a woman. Why isn't he suspended? It does not make sense. This is such a ridiculous situation. He is a footballer, but a human being. Let him play!

Seriously, if we sign Hoijlund, who seems like a great prospect but nowhere near ready to start as the main striker for Manchester United and send Greenwood on loan to Atalanta, that just seems utterly ridiculous and childish to me. Before he was suspended, Greenwood was surely a better striker than Hojlund is now and Premier League-proven. Of course we'd actually absolutely need to break the bank for Kane or Osimhen and that seems difficult at the moment, but we need a striker that can get us 25+ goals next season already and not in two years. I feel like having a striker who will not reach that mark will make a huge difference to our season and it seems it would be a huge mistake not to spend a bit more to get that striker, don't you think?

And his attitude because of his incredible upbringing in the Danish Favelas will take him far.

Rasmus Højlund:
"Every day, my older brother would take me to the square to play football. In the favela, everyone plays. Kids, old men, teachers, construction workers, bus drivers, drug dealers, gangsters. There, everyone is equal,"
Yeah, Norway is paradise in comparison :)

You realize Wout fecking Weghorst was a fan favorite right? It's not hard, just run a bunch especially if you're a striker. Hojlund could easily become one.
The hallmarks of a United striker beloved by all fans has deteriorated down to -

- don't be lazy
- don't be a crock
- don't get charged with rape and battery
- don't have an opinion on non-sports issues

Scoring goals is probably in the top 10, but no higher than fifth reason.

He will be second striker if we sign him. Rashford/Martial first choice. No chance he's good enough to lead us on a title charge + champs league. We probably making do till next summer or if Kane/Oshimen can be got at the last minute for 80/90 we will swoop in.

I'm not sure I agree with this. Kane isn't fast at all, and he's one of the most successful strikers in the Premier League. He is strong, of course, and has excellent hold-up play, but for a 20 year old striker, so does Højlund. He is absolutely fast enough for PL.

He might not be strong enough yet, but he has very good work rate, got great intensity in his play and according to staff, he has a warrior mentality and attitude.
Put him in the gym and he'll be strong as an ox in no time. Not that he really needs to be, as his hold-up play is pretty good (think Martial - not particularly strong, but very difficult to get the ball off of him when he has his back to goal) and very quick.

He's 20 so obviously not a finished article yet but he'll surely (?) score more goals than Ronaldo and especially Weghorst if he comes. That would be improvement already.
