We scored a whopping 58 goals last year (to Arsenal's 88 and City's 94), so in the grand scheme of things, Antony hasn't been a game changer at all, even along side our first 30 goal striker in a decade.
May have something to do with having no striker this season. Antony has enabled us to attack down the right which we have been unable to do without him.

I never said he was a game changer but he has changed two aspects of our attacking play significantly and for the better.

We just need an actual striker not Wout Weghorst and Rashford forced up top.

Greenwood has been at the club since he was a child. United have a duty of care, in my opinion (assuming he displays penitence and ten Hag believes it's the right to do).
The hell, MG has been getting paid alot of money for being a talent and he fecked that up. Duty of care my ass.

I wish people would just admit they only care about his footballing ability and want to win things.

We aren’t able to discuss this duty of care in detail but I fail to see how an employer should be tasked with this in these circumstances.

Greenwood hasn’t played football in a long time.

We have no idea about the physical condition he’s in, let alone if he’s even been doing any training.

Even if we tried to reintegrate him, it’d be a long process.

In terms of talent, a fit Greenwould last season over the likes of Sancho, Weghorst etc and we’d of finished much closer to City than we did.

Agreed, not sure what to say that’s football related. He hasn’t played for 18 months.
it’s just a bizarre exercise in inadvertently (at least I’d hope) manufacturing a thread on the front page of the worlds biggest United forum where everyone has to post solely about what an asset a hugely controversial figure would be for the team (as obviously he would)… it’s just silly

Antony is the best RW weve had for a long time. He’s completely changed how we can sustain attacks and progress the ball up the pitch.
We must've been watching two different Antonys then, because this isn't how I remember it at all.

Unless you’re firmly in the camp of from a footballing perspective the fall out and impact on the overall club image, dressing room and things like our women’s team make the sporting and footballing decision a no brainer.

Culture is incredibly important as is talent.

Yeah, because our RW has been shocking since Nani's minutes declined and he left. Antony is an awful player for the amount of money he cost.

I for one would have him back in the squad and playing as a forward. I think he has more on Hojlund, is free and we could that Hojlund money for something else, perhaps a Felix loan move. His talent is insane and under a coach like EtH I think he would be grounded. Second chances dont come along easy and all the time, I believe he cannot wait to get out there to show how far he can take himself. Then again, I have no proof.

If he's been getting paid a wedge all throughout the suspension, then I'm pretty sure we'd have him on a training programme to keep up fitness. It's not like he's been locked up, he can still go out running, pay a personal trainer, etc. I'd assume he has a home gym as well. It's just the football side where he'd be lacking, but it's only like a player being out injured for 18 months.

That is my view as well.
I keep reading that he should be put out on loan. But to be honest I am struggling to understand what that would achieve.
Is that magically going to stop him from getting jeered or criticised or booed or whatever. Football is international.
And if he is sent out on loan abroad, he will be on his own in a different country and environment with little or no actual support. And at the end of the loan period, all of the attention will start afresh.

Far better in my view for him to be reintroduced gradually here at OT where he has always been and in a place he knows and with all of the support he is going to need.
Yes of course it will be difficult for him and United for a period of time. But he is going to have to face up to all of that at some point anyway.
Just my opinion.
This is sort of where I'm at, are the club really that naive in thinking a season long loan will brush it under the carpet? I really hope not but nothing surprises me with this club of ours these days.

Nothing will change next summer from this, so we either integrate him back in or sell him. Personally I choose the latter but thats my opinion and I acknowledge it won't be the same as everyone else's. But what I don't want is the club beating around the Bush with the situation, a season long loan won't do anything, it prolongs the decision making process, so we either play him, or sell him.

You can believe me or not but….I done some consulting work with his family. He and they fully believe MG will play for United this coming season.

He is a very cocky person mind.

Perhaps it’s just a matter of perspective and expectation.

It’s his first season and he’s enabled our RW to actually have some sustained threat and carries us up the pitch. We don’t have that skill set in many places.

I’m happy with his season and from a footballing perspective prefer him to Greenwood.

Can he play as a lone centre forward? Considering ETH likes Kane (don’t we all), who wants to drop deep and be involved in the build up play, I don’t remember much of that from Greenwood? If he plays, I assume he’ll be in the middle of Rashford and Antony

I don’t actually remember much about his game except from him being a superb finisher, questions to me are:

- can he be activity involved in build up play?
- when we’re on the counter, does he have the timing and pace to run in behind in the way that Rashford does so superbly?
- is he strong enough to hold the ball up and bring people into play/win fouls
-

According to an article I just read ETH seems to prioritise the purchase of Amrabat over a new #9 now due to how dire and expensive the striker market currently is and of course Greenwood. He's having a look at the player while waiting for the final decision from the board on Greenwood.

I don't know if there is any truth in that but it quite makes sense if true imo. Greenwood is clearly better than any option we can get now and he can play at least two positions. Of course only if he hasn't regressed.

Edit: imo the Glazers might actually considering keeping him. It seems ETH does rate Greenwood and thinks he's good enough to be his #9. So keeping him would save them for example the 60m Atalanta is asking for Hojlund. And I don't think those greedy bastards would give much feck about the club's reputation etc. especially atm when they're about to sell the club.
If true then we’d still need a striker as we can’t rely on Greenwood and Martial as our striking options seeing as Martial
Is permanently injured so we’d need something like Felix on loan for a season as well so Rashford and Garnacho can play left then Antony and Sancho out on the right.

We need a striker. Greenwood could be a great striker. Keep him and ease him back into the side. Any backlash from fans will die down pretty soon anyway.

I'd be delighted if he was brought back into the fold. We need goals and Greenwood is a natural. He should have been getting minutes today against Leeds.

I think we would have won the Europe League as well with him in the team.

If we sell him he'll probably go to somewhere like Newcastle and tear it up for them. I doubt Toon fans will complain about him being a scumbag off the pitch. United fans need to stop with this holier-than-thou attitude and accept that modern football is ruthless, we can't afford to just chuck away a top tier talent like Greenwood.
That is my view as well.

I think a big thing IF he were to come back here, would be how he handles crowd abuse. And probable opponent abuse. And online abuse. Because it will inevitably follow him around wherever he goes, but moreso in the prem than elsewhere. So that's why I could see him move abroad for a fresh start. Even years from now in the Prem it would be repeated, I don't see this one dying down really.

If he is to come back at United, my guess is there would have to be a lot of publicity work on the part of (importantly) both Mason and his girl, while also committing to support all *those* causes, classes, donations, whatever. That's the only way the club would be able to actually reintegrate him back in the squad from a social point of view with the rest of the fans and wider world football society. I think there's a chance that if that is to happen then he could be somewhere on the "normal crowd abuse" spectrum, and he could focus on his game again.

First club has to decide of course what to do, and then he'll have to show in training what he's capable of on the pitch. 1.5 years is a long ass time. Loan makes sense from a club perspective in pretty much every single way, bide their time to decide what to do, get Greenwood regular gametime to get fitness, development for a future role or gain value for a future sale, let the situation simmer down... No brainer.
That is what I think should happen. There should be a combined endeavor between the club, but moreover, Mason himself to rehabilitate himself so he can gradually reintegrate into the team. Sending him out on loan may have it's benefits but as others have said what will that actually accomplish? It is Manchester United's issue not Atalanta's, Juventus' etc.

I would like to see him come back and I believe there is a role for him in the squad. What is for sure, is that the club need to make a decision. Contrary to what some people think of him, he is still very young and in legal terms he has not been found guilty of any charges. Therefore, he is free to carry on with his life.

Agree and imo of course ETH would love that but the problem is 'we' here do not include the Glazers I think. And unfortunately imo they're the ones who would have the final say in all this.

Yes, he showed that his passing range was good enough to drop deep to pick up the ball and release runs from wingers/forwards. He also showed that he was very good at short one twos round corners etc.

He also exhibited runs from deep on the counter and did so at youth level and then into the first team. He is (maybe was) an exceptional talent with some of the best finishing techniques that we’ve bought through the academy for a very long time.

The loan abroad would be to bring him up to speed with professional football again in a first team environment. He must be rusty as hell. He hasn't kicked a ball for a professional football team in a year and a half?

I find Antony to be one of the most frustrating players ive ever seen with nothing in his skillset to justify it.

Agreed. A talented player with a lot of room for improvement. Basically a lesser version of early Nani.

What other purpose would a loan serve? He's still going to be worth the same next summer as the same questions will still hang over him as this summer. Yes he might be more match fit but the things off field may crop back up.

Hopefully Greenwood will manage to replicate his excellent form of the past year but I do think he deserves to be paid 100% less than what he has been paid in that time.

I disagree with the bolded bit. Right now there's plenty of uncertainty over his potential and whether he'll be able to reach his pre-suspension level. That obviously affects his market value. If he has a successful loan that uncertainty goes away and his value goes up.

Trouble is Antony hasn't exactly made RW his own, so fans will always look to alternative options. Its even more complicated given Garnacho's rise on the left, which will free Sancho to swap more between left and right. That's even before we get to Pellistri who will surely improve over time as well.
Sancho just looks way off. Antony is clearly our first choice, the team just plays better and is more difficult to break down with him in it. He needs to improve decision making but I think he'll have a really good season now as long as he stays fit. The fact he is actually an RW who has played that role for his career just makes so much difference.

Hard to predict this one.

You would think we are going to loan him out abroad and get a new striker in, that would be the most sensible outcome.

However, we're talking about the Glazers who want to sell the club and want to minimize their spendings and maximize their earnings.

So going by that logic they don't want to splash out 60+ million for a new striker when they have Greenwood on their payroll who, let's be honest, has more talent and footballing ability than 90% of the strikers we are linked with recently.

According to reports, Ten Hag is against selling Greenwood, so if he gets the approval by the board I'm sure Ten Hag will play him.

New striker = Greenwood out loan.
No new striker = Greenwood stays and Ten Hag will play him.
