Unfortunately, although I really, really hope I'm wrong, I'm afraid that as the women's game gets bigger and bigger all that bullshit will become more prevalent, as long as there's some sort of advantage to get from it.
Unfortunately you are probably right

At any level, you can never know which games will catch fire, so that aspect is a lottery. And I've seen proportionally as many entertaining and absorbing women's games as I have men's. The thing is, I love football. If you love a sport, you tend to watch it at most levels when possible. Here in Canada, for example, the World Juniors (hockey) is almost as popular as the NHL. And just because I love United doesn't prevent me watching the Whitecaps in MLS.

So time zones permitting, I'll watch most if not all of Canada's and England's games, and I'll probably watch most of the knockout rounds. Luckily, Canada's opener is later this evening at a reasonable time here on the Left Coast.

What is this thing that people have with ‘because it’s women’s’ it’s an issue NOT to watch it? Why are people not saying the same about league one or non league ?
Who said that? No one

There’s literally a million questions in this thread of specifically why people wouldn’t watch the women’s World Cup. Then more questions of their reasons.

The time difference is the biggest obstacle. I am not going to stay or get up to watch games that start at 1pm, 3, pm or 6pm, which seem to be the bulk of the first round games. If the knock out rounds are early evening I will watch..

To be honest, much more annoying and strange are the people getting ultra defensive, "oh they're shoving this down our throat", "you can't even say you don't watch women's football or you'll get called a misogynist", etc. Like, wtf... no one is witch hunting anyone and tv's have promoted this like 10% of the men's WC.

For the folks saying no because man are stronger and faster, do you guys enjoy any woman's sports? Tennis? Volleyball? Athletics? Any?
Probably only beach volleyball as there are some hot ones and in bikini.

WTA is getting on my nerves usually because they play before the men so you have to watch them until they finish so it’s a bore fest.

if I have the choice it don’t think there are women sports that are watchable for me.

The post asks a direct question? I don’t see anybody questioning why anybody IS watching it.

I wouldn't be surprised if people at a comic book convention told me they won't watch it, but this is a football forum, so it's not that strange some are surprised most won't watch a football world cup.

Then you must find the premise of the OP marvellously confusing.

Which of the following interactions sounds stranger to you?

Football fan on a football forum A: will you watch the world cup?
Football fan on a football forum B: no
Football fan on a football forum A: but you're a football fan, why not?

Football fan on a football forum A: will you watch the world cup?
Football fan on a football forum B: yes
Football fan on a football forum A: why?

Why on earth would anyone ask a football fan why they're watching a football world cup?

Both are exactly the same given the premise of the op, obviously it was expected their would be those who do and those who don’t. However for some bizarre reasons there are people questioning people who don’t plan to watch it.

I didn’t watch any of the U21 euros either but I doubt anybody would feel the need to question why

instead of questioning someone's reasons not to watch the tournament, the most vocal posters should have at least bothered to start an official world cup thread and actually provide some info on qualified teams and their players. I thought the lack of coverage in my country is due to lack of interest, but google revealed to me that we don't even have a team here.

I don't see it as bizarre at all and I would also question people who don't watch youth world cups, it's interesting for me to know their reasons. Asking the same to people who will watch will probably just get me a bunch of "because I like football". So not the same...

I asked about it because I wanted to know the reasons, not because I have some gotcha moment up my sleeve, as some people seem really afraid of.

Whoever won the game
I watched it this morning for 3 minutes

The level was abysmal. Admittedly neither NZ nor Norway are among favourites

I think Foxsports offers free highlights, at least here in the US.

Should we only watch Man City (fecking cheats) play, because everything else is less good?

I tried again by watching the Ire game today and its not necessarily about quality that will inevitably improve with coaching and investment, what won't is the speed of the game its slow as feck that's the physical reality you can pick any mens game at any level and it will always have pace and physicality that's what those gigantic pitches are designed for.

You guys who like it have often said in this thread that they aren't the same game right, so why are they trying to force the same paradigm? What's stopping them from say cutting the size of the pitch in half? Would be so much interesting then i would definitely watch it as it would allow for more aggression especially.

Watching Canada v Nigeria now, interesting pitch green and white in ten yard sections. I wondering if it's an Australian rules football pitch or something.

It’s the same game, with the same emotions and excitement because it is the world cup. All the teams are coached well these days and the women are fanatical.

No cutting the pitch size needed, some of these ladies can score from 30 yards out.

Reading through your post history in this thread your agenda seems very clear. But sure if you just go around asking people why they don’t watch different forms of the game on a regular basis, of course that would show that you don’t have an agenda. Purely an interest in why people don’t watch football.

It's as if they stated televising kids school plays. The pretend enthusiasm, the whitewashing of everything obviously shit makes the sport seem less serious than it is. If something isn't awful it's apparently amazing. If something is awful then let's not talk about that, look at how enthusiastic the crowd is.

People who treat it like a parent treats a 4 year old's painting they've stuck to the fridge and gasp and marvel at it, like it's something Van Gough's paintbrush just shat out, are doing more harm to the credibly of the sport than they realise.

The fact the coverage of this 'elite level sporting event' is treating it as an 'everyone's a winner' sports day, is the most revealing thing about it. I'll start taking women's football seriously once it starts treating itself like a proper sport.

Millions watch and enjoy women's tennis. Because it's presented as, and treated like, a proper sport. "Oh she missed that back hand volley but she's so brave look at all these people at centre court" isn't a thing because in serious sport that nonsense would not be tolerated.

Women's golf is indistinguishable from men's golf. They don't go in for that "She's 11 over par but she's very brave and an amazing Kween" utter shite they do with women's football coverage.

I'll watch it. The last World Cup seemed quite entertaining , although I probably only watch the matches involving Spain and the semis and final

I will have it on but it won't get my full attention.
Technique overall is not great but with players like Kerr in the game the women have someone to aspire to and the game will become better.

I won’t watch every game religiously like at the men’s World Cup last November / December, but I’ll tune in whenever I can. Live football, men’s or women’s, on free to air TV is always welcome.

Tennis has been the undisputed no. 1 women’s sport for at least 100 years or so. This year is the 50th anniversary of the WTA tour being created, and the 1920s the huge popularity of Suzanne Lenglen made Wimbledon to move a to larger venue (it’s modern day one). But there’s no doubt that football will overtake it there.

Think I’ll be betting on it more than watching it. Some easy wins here with the total mismatches. Handicaps and HT/FT.

Did watch Australia and Ireland yesterday and was surprised how bad Australia were.

Norway, Canada and Australia were all supposed to be easy wins but did not work out like that at all

This is how they cover the men's game too? They always pretend it's much grander than it is, and credit smaller teams and players merely for existing.

Yeah because when there are youth world cups or euros people open threads asking if others will watch, that happens all the time... also plenty of threads asking if people watch other leagues or lower leagues, yeah that too is very common before important events. I think it's natural to wonder why it's different with women, since the game is the same. But let's call it an agenda and move on, I suppose it makes it easier.
