As I said before, when ETH wants his man the club will deliver it to him even if overpaying, no doubt that ETH pushed hard for him. If he gets it wrong again (as with Antony) then he really shouldn’t get a say in big money transfers again. But I have a good feeling about him.
I think it's an unfair assessment. He got it right with Martinez and Casemiro. Malacia was also ok considering the price.

Regarding Antony he wasn't amazing by any means but also wasn't terrible. The reality is we overpaid due to the board incompetencies as I'm sure ETH would have preferred to get him earlier on the transfer window for 50 million.

I’m personally just a bit concerned that they were our manager’s top targets at all.
Onana is a massive upgrade on De Gea, so I don't get the concern with him.

Hojlund and Mount have talent(Hojlund more-so). Up to the manager to maximize them now.

You weren’t far off
Yup, yet another case where the total fee is in the headline for a United signing whereas with other clubs they ignore the add ons.

Looking at the top rated comments on the article (hurr hurr Manure spend more Glazer money than anyone else Iol, etc) I'm not surprised they're catering to their usual audience.

I feel anything but positive about this move. I hate it with every fibre of my being. But it is what it is. You’ve got yourselves a kid with unbelievable potential.
You wouldn’t know it from the responses on here. Because we paid exactly 2.476m too much. So not only is he now shit, but our entire executive recruitment team should be shot. The incompetent, useless bastards.

Otherwise I completely agree with you. Incredible potential and a big signing for us. I’m glad you hate it. Sorry!

Some of the amateur fecking accountants in here, feck me. Some people just have to have a moan about anything and everything. You don’t see Madrid fans whining why they spent x on a player they really wanted. They just celebrate getting them. Which is what we should be doing here. Why the obsession over the fee? The same should be expected of him whether we paid 55m or 75m.

The bottom line is that he was the managers top choice for a CF, and we’ve gotten the deal done at a price we could afford, and early in the window. In a position we DESPERATELY needed to strengthen. I don’t understand what’s not to like here.

Madrid dropped 80m on a bench player for the future last summer, as they forward plan, and their fans took it with typical big dick energy. Meanwhile we’ve got a gaggle of mewling quims, who get a better chubby from winning the bookkeeping DoF olympics, than actually building a good squad. The same harem of snivlepots who are still whining about how much Antony cost, or think jokes about “preparing a bid, or monitoring developments” are still funny.

This place is honestly such a depressing buzzkill most of the time. Shoot me for coming in excited we’ve signed a top talent, for a position we were desperately lacking in. I should’ve known I’d be walking into a nerdy, uninformed, nihilistic circle jerk.
lock the thread, the Caf just got murdered.

For those that never watched the guy and that are into more detail match compilations rather then just touches or even worse, just good touches....
Looks lively of the ball, no idea why he was subbed at HT but certainly with hindsight it didnt helped the team as they lost 2:0 second half. His runs are clever, was little on the ball but doesnt seem like a donkey(Lukaku/Morata) type so should be very dangerous once he fully develops physically.

72M? Wow!

People saying don't worry about the price, but I believe the reason so many of our new signings flop is due to their overinflated transfer fee that puts a lot of pressure from the get go.

If Hojlund comes in and doesn't hit the ground running, lets be honest, he'll be getting a lot of stick from the media and fans. Obviously not his fault that he's valued at that, but for 72M, we should be getting the finished article, in my opinion.
This is where we as United supporters, and by extension of course supporters of our players, have a responsibility to recognise the reality of the situation and act accordingly.

He might need time and patience. Let's give it to him.

He's going to be a huge asset for our pressing game. He's got amazing physical tools.

If he develops well, we've got the striker position sorted for 10 years. Excited to watch him. It's a gamble, but Spurs were never selling Kane to us.

Was Casemiro really ETH's choice? The way things went suggests to me that was a club decision. FDJ was ETH's choice imo. Absolutely got it right with Martinez but it concerns me a bit that his first choice was actually Timber and Licha was our backup once Timber refused to join. Don't think Timber would have been a success for us personally. Always much preferred Licha at Ajax. We'll see how Timber does at Arsenal. Not fully convinced by the Eriksen signing either, never was really even when he was performing well in 1st half of season. Malacia's fine, the fee was low and he's a good squad player that keeps Shaw on his toes. Antony's been pretty close to terrible when you take the fee into consideration. Utd fans are generally a lot kinder to him than neutrals. Antony adds a lot in terms of his pressing and pace but everything else has been very poor so far. Hoping he'll improve but the fee did him no favours.

I think Onana will be a great signing, but I'm much less positive about Mount and Hojlund. I would hope that we consulted our scouting and recruitment team about all of these signings instead of just going for the manager's choice without any feedback. That's their speciality where they should have more expertise than ETH.

£70m

Feck me were soon going to have some first XI of players we've signed for £70m+, Pogba's the only one that was semi successful and Maguire for about a season.

For those wondering why anyone would complain, he's very raw. Easy to be positive when you've got the dopamine hit, but a finished article he isn't. As with Antony and Sancho, I can see people quickly change their tune when they actually see him play. The kids worth about £40m (mostly for the potential), but as usual we overpay for everything and don't really get much in return for our money.

I'd much, much rather we found an extra £40m or binned Mount and signed someone genuinely good, like Osimhen or Kane. We have so many of these meh players like Sancho and Antony it's just sad at this point.

It's £64m with addons. Why do you got to add a few millions?

The moaning is unbelievable.

Moan if he's old.
Moan if he's young.
Moan if he only has X amount of goals in X league.
Moan if nobody else was interested.
Moan if other teams are interested.
Moan if his fee is too high.
Moan if he fee is too low.
Moan if he doesn't make a fuss about moving.
Moan if he does make a fuss about moving.
Moan if he's tall.
Moan if he's short.
Moan if he likes his toast cremated.

etc.
etc.

Moan.

Manager wanted Kane as the senior striker, obviously, and Hojlund as support.

He also wanted Min-Jae Kim but again, we don't have a £350m budget, so he had to compromise.

I agree on Mount. I don't rate him.

Genuinely what do some of you get out of supporting Utd and watching football? It's meant to be fun, the level of misery and negativity relentlessly is just bonkers.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
Did we even negotiate? We got fecking rinsed here.
According to Jamie Jackson, Atalanta wanted an initial £77M fee.
And if the add ons are achieved, which could very well be very easy, we’ll pay 73m…

So they spent all that time negotiating 4m down from a comically overpriced initial fee.

But then we already know the club is run by absolute feckwits who don’t demand excellence at every level.
