So you'd prefer somebody who is good 20% of the time and poor 80% over someone who has probably a 60% good and 40% bad split (actually probably better since he's been moved into his natural position)?
No, I'd prefer someone who delivers what I'd expect 100% of the time in the small number of games that I'd play him, over someone who delivers 50% of the time in the small number of games that I'd play him.

They both need to go. We need to set higher standards on what’s required to have a Manchester United jersey. I can’t believe we are still seeing people want to keep Fred, the difference between his bad games and McTominay‘s etc is that in Fred’s bad games he looks like he never played before. He causes train crash situation, Mc Tominay is more an absence of good stuff, on a bad day Fred is an abundance of terrible stuff. Better players in the team can compensate for McTominay’s lack of quality once he does the basics but it’s much harder to make up for Fred kicking it out of play, missing tackles etc. He’s just no use to us, especially as a squad player when you just need someone to do a competent job. The fact no clubs are offering decent money for him tells you the level he is in the eyes of professional scouts, managers etc.

No one else will spend 10M on him, but we should keep him in the squad!!! What other 8M players should we look for?

Fred is better imo but they both need moving on this window. They're the midfield version of Smalling and Jones.

Smalling would have been far more useful for us than Jones, Maguire and probably Lindelof too.

Strange that Amrabat chatter is picking up while McT/Fred chatter is dying down, especially when it’s been made clear from the most credible sources that incomings are dependent upon outgoings.

Has there been any substantive development on midfield departures in the last 2 weeks?

Really surprised people still supporting him and wanting him to stay. Not a fortune but he is on £120k a week, cost what was it near £60m, is now 30 and in five years has probably put in two really good spells of consistent performances. Apart from his battling qualities, positionally, reading the game he is a liability as a defensive midfielder, he cant pass in that areas and gets caught out often...we also have enough options as attacking midfielders where he has been best that I dont see how he plays.

I kind of want to like him as he seems to have a good attitude and gives his all....but pound for pound have never got away from thinking him a terrible signing.

To get back to where we were, we need to think about developing a squad where players can actually be of a standard needed to start for us.

Fred has been a hard working squad player but man alive he has been bad at times. We need an end of that era and even if we don't get over 10 million pounds, he still needs to go and be replaced by someone like Amrabat

Agreed, they both need to go but I think Fred is better for sure. He does more embarrassing and clownish things than McTominay which make his deficiencies more obvious. McTominay is often just complete spectator.

When he leaves, Rashford will be the last man standing from the 'Ole's at wheel' chant. Poignant times.

Fred’s the one that made it work aswell. The other names could be replaced.

I think he's being sold now because he's 30. Out of all players reportedly will be sold he has the most value to us but this is probably the best time to sell. On top of that he's unlike Harry and doesn't want to stay at all cost.

Romano said Hojlund will wear the #17 so 99 % Fred will leave.

Thank you for everything and all the best Fred.

It'll be a shame to see him leave but it's probably the right time. Great player at his best and a naturally loveable character.

He's being sold because his contract is up next season and he's not getting a new one, he hardly has any value to United in cash terms

So going into the season with 4 midfielders in the team if we get Amrabat?
Bruno
Casemiro
Mount
Eriksen
Mainoo
Amrabat

That’s already six, and then we haven’t yet disposed of Mejbri or Gore

Forgot about Eriksen. And Mainoo is out for a start of the season.
Totally agree United need 7 midfield options if we sell DVB, S Mctominay and Fred we need S Amrabat and Another, I’d like Leon Goretzka if possible or More attacking option M Kudas.
We will always have 1/2 injured or suspended, we need 3/4 on field and 1/2 on bench minimum.

Don't see us signing another two midfielders
