With this squad, Klopp is the only factor making the difference between Liverpool getting a Europa league finish and replicating the Chelsea of 2022-23 season. Gomez, Matip and a fallen Van Dijk as starting CB? TAA in defence? Some of them look like they don't care to defend and it's not their responsibility. Why they don't spend more to get a world class CB & a defensive midfielder is beyond me. It's like every other team has moved forward and Liverpool have moved sideways from last season.

I always hesitate to underestimate Liverpool, Klopp has shown many times he can get his teams at a really high level even when they don't look that great on paper. But when I look at that midfield, you have to say its the weakest its been since he built his first good team.

Szoboszlai I don't really know, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's solid. Mac Allister was a good buy but not exactly fear inducing. Then they've got Jones, Elliot, Thiago and Bajcetic. I mean, all four have their merits, but I don't see how you build a title-challenging midfield out of that. Honestly, if they still dominate possession against us yet again this season, I'll be pissed.

They will challenge for top 5. Might win the Europa along the way.

Can't see them winning the league this season.

I think they'll be fine. Their attack will bail out their defence a decent amount.

I suspect Arsenal and City will be a bit worse. We'll probably be similar or a bit improved (I think we will have a very dodgy start like last season, having no striker will cost us points)

Newcastle I can't see doing as well as last season. And Chelsea won't be as good as Liverpool.

So top 4 minimum is what I think they'll get, if things click and they don't get injuries they may even compete.

They'll probably win the Europa league too.

I think they'll have a great season and finish ahead of us. Seems to be the Klopp way to have a dodgy season followed by a phoenix like rebirth the following season.

It could go either way for Liverpool. Fabinho and Henderson were awful last season, and the rest of the players they let go were either too old or injury prone.

It seems like more of a transitional season for them, so I don't see them challenging for the title. It's crazy that they appear to be starting the season without a recognised defensive midfielder though!

While their attack is potent, hard to imagine them challenging for the title with this much of a changed midfield.

They have some things going in their favour. Spurs and Chelsea are rebuilding with new managers and Newcastle will have European football to contend with.

He’ll sign for Chelsea. What a shambles of a saga
Can anyone confirm that Lavia is their main target, because he is English homegrown and fits the registration requirements. There ain't any Homegrown DM's on the market.

Liverpool game on pub here, Liverpool just got caught out by a long ball over the top by a 4th tier side and conceded. 2-1 up after 10 but that was horrendous defending

I'm not sure anymore, I actually think the Utd side is more balanced now than Liverpool, who are top heavy in quality but suspect defensively. I don't think Lavia on his own fixes that, so will be dependent on who else they bring in.

Szoboslai has been chronic. Great corner for the goal and one or two good passes but he's looked well off the pace in this game.

Mac Allister on the other hand looks a proper world cup winner!! Totally bossing the game from midfield.

They will finish above us.they will be 2nd..
They keep scoring so they always have a chance.. And will win 4-3..
Our problem is, we cannot score.. So we will have a lot of draws

They’re a mess in the middle, and we don’t look cohesive in any department so unless something clicks for both teams it could be one of those seasons for us both.
Strange, I thought we had a solid season last year and things can only get better..

We were only ever a couple of injuries away from a meltdown so we're not quite there yet, and I'm concerned about that forward line. Liverpool have a whole defence that needs replacing and I don't think that midfield is going to hold it's own in the PL.

Yeah I actually thought towards the end of the year we were quite cohesive (provided it was our first choice XI). We just didn't have any sort of threat going forward besides Rashford, and in many instances had an active hindrance in Weghorst.

Can't believe they haven't bought any defenders this close to the start of the season. I think they need 2 if they're going with this 3-2-2-3 system. Robertson can't play it (he was crap last season anyway) and they need an improvement on Konate (and VVD but that's not going to happen). Badly need their dm too. We'll see what they look like by end of transfer window but if this was their final squad I'd find it hard to see them finishing above 5th, and I do think there are teams on their heels in Villa, Newcastle, Brighton and Spurs.

What? Konate is brilliant.

Just saw the 7 goals, both keepers absolutely shocking. Also both high lines were awful. But it's preseason...

Their defence will have some absolute howlers this season. They will get battered in a few games and they’ll Also have a few surprise losses to small teams.

Newcastle on the other hand, they’ll be defensively solid so will be up there. Liverpool might struggle for top 4 but will look like world beaters in some games.

This is the first time in Klopp's career that he is undergoing a 2nd generation re-built right?

A lot of wishful thinking in here imo (I’m the same!) In reality I think they’ll be a strong side, bolstered the midfield well in summer and have lots of attacking ability.

Im expecting Salah to start to show some decline though, I know he scored plenty last season but he didn’t look as effective and/or as strong on the ball in the games I watched, (again could be wishful thinking) would be interested in Liverpool fans view on that?
