We were being too prideful at £100. £110 is insanity. Well done Brighton.
For once I'd applaud Chelsea. There has to be a limit, 110 is absolute madness. The lad has had 1 good season in a side that has a track record of being more than the sum of their parts.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
Wtf the dippers are buying Caicedo now!?! What!!?

The same day Kane goes to Bayern. fecking hell

This has been my least favourite transfer window in… well… a long time.

It started with solid talk of the Glazers leaving and has ended with them staying and Utd making (imo) some very questionable signings with literally every player I wanted at Utd going elsewhere, and in this case to a direct rival.

So you’re saying sign Adams, leave Lavia alone and just run with Santos and Adams as the DM pair?
Yes. Although, I liked the idea of someone like paredes or Goretzka as an experienced option to mix in with the youth.

Adams is an excellent player, and if he’s not being asked to be a sole anchor as a 6 he does really well.

I believe Santos will just keep growing and growing as a player, and he isnot some random but rated youth prospect . He’s a golden ball winner who some very famous Brazillian midfielders have said will surpass them. Let him play.

I will welcome Lavia and hope for the best of he comes here. But with Nkunku injury I would prioritize Kudus ir Olise now.

Neither Caicedo or Enzo were big names 12 months ago. Don’t worry. Football moves fast. You’ll get your big name hype soon enough.
Exactly. 2 years ago the unmissable signings were Tchou and Camavinga, all of a sudden Caicedo popped up, same with Enzo.

There will always be talented players who will be available.

I don't know much about your young players but aren't you a bit light in midfield purely based on numbers?

Wonder what Liverpool have seen that made them decide £110m on Caceido was a better deal than £50m for Lavia. Crazy sums.

He's a Kante level player. He improves their midfield tremendously.
Kante who is the only player since Cantona to lead one side to a league title then transfer and lead his new side to the league title? Best midfielder in a world cup winning side Kante? Man of the match in a champions league final Kante?

Jesus wept, he's had 1 good season for Brighton.

This is a prime example of why I say he's being overrated.

Caicedo is much better player, 50 million for Lavia or 110 million for Caicedo is a no-brainer.

Oh for sure. I view Santos as the Caicedo or Enzo before they spent a season at Benfica and Brighton. I was more concerned about signing Adams when I thought we were getting Caicedo, as it would block his development. Santos is a legit gem but I’m worried him and Adams won’t be mature/good enough for the level we need just yet.

Can somebody explain me, why Chelsea haven't bid 100m earlier in this transfer window instead of signing around 5? random talents for 20m each for the future? Feels like Caicedo would have been more of a key player for them.

The two aren't mutually exclusive, it wasn't that they didn't have the £100m because they spent it on other players. They just thought they could get Caicedo for cheaper, they turned out to be wrong.

Maybe they thought no one had the money or need for Caicedo. They maybe wanted the player to throw tantrums which I think he was starting to. That way Chelsea may have felt they could have gotten way with paying £80-85m.

Pretty much. Grave miscalculation it turns out. Brighton played this splendidly.

Who gives a feck about what we could’ve done when we were run by incompetent Woodward.
We didn't due to lack of knowledge on how to get round complicated ownership. Brighton were smart and had the advantage of having done a previous deal

You laugh now but it’s strengthens them enormously. He completes their midfield rebuild. They are all young and have great potential. Strong contender for the 2nd/3rd spot.
I'm certainly not laughing and now dreading facing that midfield in both league games. Particularly that trip to Anfield just 9 days before Christmas

TBF Kante had one good season for Leicester before joining Chelsea, granted it was a season that was better than what Brighton or Caicedo delivered this season but the guy is a top talent, there's a reason he was already known as a top prospect before he even went to Europe. This isn't some flash in the pan type player.

Gutted as I thought he would've been a great fit with us.

Yeah, it's way over the top, but it could be a game changer for them.
Yeah, I mean he’s good but he’s not THAT good. Jesus. Just a really solid DM with a good alroind game but he’s not some generational talent. Completely absurd. He’ll improve them a fair bit, as you would hope at 110 fecking million, but it’s not like he’s got some game changing ability.

Tchouameni £87M
Rice £105M
Enzo £107M
Caicedo £110M

All in the last 12 months.
All mental fees. Tchouameni is the best of the lot imo, and is the “cheapest”. Caicedo has something like 45 top flight games to his name. Utterly mental pricing.

They've now got a young and world class potential trio in midfield.

But ours is ready to click now + Mainoo can be bedded in. Amrabat isn't exactly old either, so I think we have a good balance. Definitely need to keep an eye on keeping our midfield fresh with another big talent for the future next summer though
