This is different. Peps revolutionised football but it’s so less entertaining now. You can appreciate the tactical and technical skill of it all but with the tactical fouls and the way they keep the ball there’s barely a sniff of a counter attack.
I agree. it's not just City games either. Individuality has been sapped out of the sport the last 5 years it seems.

I’d argue the popularization of systemic pressing high up the pitch and tactical fouls have done more damage to football than anything else in the past 20 years.

It turned everything into a game of midfield battles and spacing, because any team that tries to counter just gets hacked down often. Go and watch a United game from the early 2000’s and it’ll look like a different sport with how much space is open on the pitch.

I've already lost my enthusiasm for the new season - which wasn't especially high to begin with - after seeing the normal service of Haaland scoring off every kick resumed

Burnley have done pretty well and just been punished by a freak in front of goal.

A better team would have scored at least one against City here. No need to for any doom and gloom yet for the season.

Good of Gary calling him out. No need to do that in front of the camera. Egomaniac

Why do you think other modern coaches are reluctant to do anything different? Play with more risk and entertainment.

There was a point when Poch was at Spurs (because they were just as bad as this City team) that they started talking about really trying to stomp this out but they just don't have the balls to give a yellow for every cynical challenge. I don't really know what the solution is to be honest - someone was saying Arteta has coached Arsenal to go down injured just after they've scored as it's statistically the most dangerous time in a game that you might concede, it's this kind of "gamesmanship" that makes football worse, even more than VAR and shit reffing in my opinion.
