Wtf. Mbappe staying but also extending his contract by one year so won’t leave on a free next summer. Sky sports just confirmed. So weird to extend.

The only reason I can think of why he’s extended is he’s possibly being paid a bonus fee from psg which will be equivalent to the sign on fee he would have got from Madrid. PSG are probably desperate Madrid don’t get him on a free.

Likewise Madrid will probably pay a large chunk of that sign on fee they would have given Mbappe and use it for the transfer fee instead. Who knows.

Will likely include a release clause you would imagine so he leaves next summer

madrid should have to pay a fair whack if they’re getting him, I don’t like psg but don’t like the idea of him just falling into Madrid’s lap for free either

stay another season, go to madrid next year, fee to psg - fine.

Probably some bonus involved. Also I think he wouldn't fancy not playing for a year... I never believed it would happen but maybe the threat looked more severe from his viewpoint.

All's Well, Ends Well except maybe for Real Madrid (though I suspect the idea is that next year sale will be facilitated and PSG won't hardball).

All the young players and clerical employees can breath lighter, they won't be thrown into the streets after PSG bankrupt because of the rapacious Kylian leaving on a free.

Madrid press probably going to run a story about how Mbappe is now legally the head of state of Qatar.

Caf and football twitter probably going to believe it. :wenger:

Realistically, in a financial sense, they could probably afford it. It would trigger a huge controversy in France maybe up to the President. It's a little bit ridiculous but Sarkozy helped QSI set foot in Paris and Macron loves to insert himself with the national team. Qatar capital in France is a big deal and they probably don't want to antagonize that. Even excluding that, just a year of the rag sport media writing stories every week would be hugely negative publicity. In a sporting sense it may be that Luis Enrique having to work without his biggest asset / biggest handicap* is actually a blessing mid to long term... But no pundit is gonna view it like that.
I think it's more likely Nasser and Mbappé have a big public make out ( a fake one would suffice) or that Mbappé is shipped somewhere on a transfer or a loan.

* I don't think he is the biggest issue of that XI but that's up for argument.
Didn’t Macron step in around the time he signed his current contract? Allegedly contacted him directly to get him to stay in France for the good of the nation?

If Kane is going for 100m with one year left, Mbappe will command 150m at least.

That's the story per Mbappé himself in Sports Illustrated, yes.
Says a lot about the dreadful level Macron is operating at but that's for another topic.

Now our long national nightmare is over, we can look forward to PSG CL run [ending in quarters].

Last year we already should’ve moved on but Perez is obsessed. I think most Madrid fans wouldn’t mind not getting him at this point and just want a proper striker. We lost Kane due to Mbappe and Haaland also due to Mbappe. This is beyond stupid.

It is strange to be focused on Mbappe when he seems to dislike playing in the exact same position Madrid need him to play.

Signing Mbappe to replace Vinicius on the left who is probably the next best in the world in that position is strange.

I agree Madrid would be better focusing on a proper out n out striker. Unlikely as it is, they should break the bank and tap up Haaland as much as they can.

Quite surprised Perez didnt bid for Kane. That would make more sense for Kane to go there than Bayern.

Potential big Saudi bids for Neymar, Mbappé not leaving for free : There is no fairness in football. Financial might makes right until the whole thing collapses.

All this talk of prolongation is also maybe a way to bait someone to bid now.
There's an Euro next year and the Olympic games in Paris potentially. I think Mbappé would rather prepare those while playing regularly and not being embroiled in a messy dispute with his club.

Whatever the case, it's in everyone's interest to settle things now.

Like I said, Perez is obsessed. Sadly no elite strikers in the market right now so my guess is we’ll stick to the 442 this season and hope it works out.

There were reports but then that damn Mbappe letter came out and Real once again dropped everything for a player who doesn’t really want to be there.

What a waste of a career. I'd love to see him in the PL even for a rival, see him go up against strong teams every week.

By the time Robaldo was his age, he had won 3 PL s, a CL, a Balloon d'Or, got to another CL final and had just moved to Madrid. Mbappe being at PSG until he's 26/27 is just such a waste. There's no guarantee he'll be injury free in his later years either.

What the actual feck. He is going to be 25 by end of the year, and he should try his best to move to bigger league sooner rather than later. Staying at PSG would cost him Ballon D'ors and CL.

I sincerely doubt Mbappé will be in Paris past Summer 2024.
Then again I didn't expect the first extension or this summer's F-drama, so...

You might be spot on. That’s exactly what I think has happened here.

I have no doubt he wants to win the ballon Dor’s and CL’s and playing for Madrid but his priorities change as soon as psg shows him bags of money.

He's won a World Cup, got to another World Cup final where he scored a hat-trick, World Cup Golden Boot and Silver Ball. He's doing alright for himself.

Yeah but imagine if he had any semblance of a club career alongside that

I would have been surprised if he indeed went for free next year. This was happening. Mbappe has PsG by the balls and they keep repeating their mistakes.

He can still possibly clinch a CL at PSG. I don't think they're top favorites or anything but this season's team might be stronger than the Neybappé era teams. On paper they're much better balanced.

It's all on the Champions League really, nobody will care what league he's playing in if PSG win that. But yeah you could argue they won't win the CL because Ligue 1 isn't giving them enough competitive games.

Getting rid of Neymar and Messi though and getting a more balanced team and a good coach in Enrique, will be interesting to see how they do this year.

Pogba won a World Cup too.

Thing is, he will never be considered the best of his era if he hasn't won any Ballon D'ors, let along multiple Ballon D'ors to compete with Halaand or even match Messi/Ronaldo achievements in future.

That's true but it really depends on the Champions League more than league form, if it was based on best player in the best league then De Bruyne or Salah would have won the Ballon d'Or, league form rarely counts that much for the Ballon d'Or, it's World Cup/Champions League/Euros that matter.

Ballon d'Or is overrated IMO. Mbappé does a great Euro in 2024 and he is in automatic contention even if he played for Toulouse.

This is why Kane should have stayed in London. Would have been him to go to Madrid next season on a FREE. No way Real go for Mbappe now he’ll cost them 100m +

Mbappe's Perez's long-lost love child? Vinicius is there already unless he is willing to sell him to fund Mbappe's arrival?

He might be, gets snubbed year in year out but keeps going back.

Money is not an issue. Vini or anyone else who started the game last night are untouchable. Perez won’t sell any of them.

I can only imagine the signing bonuses involved this team if they extend a deal
It's only natural to reward loyalty.
This does seem to throw a wrench in the "there's only Real in play" story. I think he's up for grabs for any big Euro club that can afford it.

Not sure if serious? Have you followed what he's been doing lately, extracting more, and more, and more money from PSG?
