Most reports on Murtough were that he was doing a good job in his earlier roles. It just seems he's a classic example of somebody being promoted past their point of competence. If that is the case, and if Murtough is happy to drop back to one of those lesser roles, I'd be happy to keep him at the club. That's a big 'if' though. Especially since he'd obviously need to take a significant paycut.
I absolutely wouldn't go this hard or get this carried away at this stage of anything.

It's also to do with agency and legacy. Why do people take promotions other than financial? More autonomy, authority and responsibility.
Human behaviour? Personal growth?
Why wouldn't you want to go from being a cog in a machine to the main guy somewhere else? This is the chance to do something meaningful or leave a legacy. People can't turn that stuff down, no matter how much money they currently have.

Precisely. You always have United fans saying ‘why would top players want to join us’ or ‘what elite manager would come here’…but being THE guy or being a vital part of getting United back to wining major trophies again is enticing.

He joined City as Head of International Business Development in Sept 2011 before making his way up to the senior role of Chief Operating Officer in September, 2016, a position he held for four years.
Since September, 2020 he has been the Chief Operating Officer for the wider City Football Group managing football operations for over 100 teams across 13 clubs (including City) across five continents.
The clubs - which the group have total or partial ownership of - include Girona who have been surprise leaders of La Liga.
They also include New York City in the US, Melbourne FC in Australia, Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan, Montevideo City Torque in Uruguay, Sichuan Jiuniu FC in China, Mumbai City FC in India, Lommel SK in Belgium, ESTAC in France, Palermo FC in Italy, Bahia SAF in Brazil and partner club, Club Bolivar in Bolivia.
Its not Rangnick's fault he was given a squad that couldnt and wouldnt play the style he wanted and wasnt allowed to spend any money on players that could and would.

What exactly did he ‘lord’ over? He wasn’t involved in any of the sponsorship deals, he’s been largely on the football side of things.
Well this is certainly a very pessimistic take! To compare him to Woodward is crazy too.
Our Ed worked for PWC and JPM. He is a banker. He excelled at the commercial aspect of his role, but was totally exposed on the footballing side and was too arrogant to admit his shortcomings and let someone with more relevant experience take the lead. He protected his position by sucking up to Joel and appointing his mates to key positions whether they were the best available or not. Famously he was more of a rugby fan than a football fan.
When you Google Richard Arnold his bio refers to him as a ‘British Accountant’. Another money man. Nuff said because he didn’t last long.
Berrada by contrast is well versed in football - he was headhunted by Barcelona in 2004, before joining City. He has worked hand in glove with Txiki on the football side playing key roles in the signings of players like Laporte, Dias and Haaland. He also refused to sign Maguire at the price we paid, and rejected Sanchez due to his wage demands. He’s also considered Sorianos right hand man, having a hand in the commercial growth of City and the City group. 20 years experience in the business of football is not to be sniffed at, especially with a track record of getting things right.
Furthermore he is well regarded by his peers at the summit of football which is why this has caused such a shock, and is seen as something of a coup.
If nothing else it is a very impressive first step on our road to a new structure, and given the rank incompetence we have endured since 2013 I think the fans can be forgiven for a bit of hope and excitement!
