Someone needs to ground him quickly, he's a good talent but he's nowhere near as good as he thinks he is yet. He's lucky our other wing options are so horrendous because otherwise he'd be catching a lot of flak for his greediness.

Does he know there's a higher chance of scoring if he passes the ball sometimes?

Is it the left wing possession that makes our players stupidly selfish?

Garnacho played like he has the ghost of Gandalf yelling 'you shall not pass' at him. Better, less selfish play, and we could've killed the game several times over.

Perhaps he's been doing better on the right because it means he can't cut in so much, so he has to think more and play for others more?

Hojlund lost it with him in the end and rightly so. But yeah, if we had anyone else, I'd drop him for that kind of performance.

He’s wayyyy too selfish. Just won’t pass to Rasmus no matter what.

Much prefer him on the right at the moment. Problem is we have so few options. Even with that said, he was wasteful today and can play better than that on the left.

If he slides that ball across the face of goal at 2-0 we probably end up winning this game about 5 or 6-0 and he gets on the scoresheet, instead he goes for glory at a worse angle. He's young but it's unacceptable and it's not the first time he's been guilty of this.

Would be hilarious if we played Antony on the right and he became productive as he's left footed and doesn't have to keep cutting back.

As for garnacho, agree he seems better on the right recently. Very selfish today

Yep and even after that, there was a lot of head down stuff. It's a teachable moment for me, so I hope we do something about it, but we'll see.

Showed that he is still raw and has developing to do. He needs a top coach to unlock his potential.

I thought he was our man of the match, a constant menace in the first half and should have scored. If he can just get a bit more strength and stamina he will be a hell of a player.

He's really starting to grate on me. He is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is

There have been games (especially when he's been on the right side) where he's looked perfectly happy to knock crosses across goal all game, but there are other games like today where it seems like he's decided he has to score no matter how badly he's playing, and the end result is just a whole lot of bad decisions and losing the ball.

I really hope he's not becoming another selfish player. Greenwood was definitely heading that way too before the off-field issues, as talented as he is/was.

I don't think he's selfish or he's overly determined to score, I just think it's one of those things about having inverted wingers, players are trained to cut in on their strong foot and go for goal rather than go on the outside. Garnacho to his credit even on the left goes on the outside very often, but that puts it on his left foot so he doesn't open his body as well and so can't lift his head the same way to pick out players, and is more just head down and put the ball in on instinct. On the right he can lift his head up while still being comfortable to run on the outside and put the ball in with more control, or he can cut in and take decent shots with his left as that's fine to just keep his head down and play on instinct.

He's just a much more natural right sided player and would help Hojlund out much more IMO.

Needs to go back to basics, he's trying to do too much right now. Once he grows into his body a bit he'll be able to play the way he want to more.

These FA Cup games against teams from the lower leagues are never as easy as you think.

No need to over react and slaughter the boy.

Having an inform senior player would be the best person to remind him not to be selfish. Sadly they are none of them around the club currently.

Thought he was poor today. Maybe complacency but he was pushed off the ball easily and his dribbling was shite, decision making was even worse.

Neither he nor Antony nor Rashford are actually creators. It's so frustrating, because we need more providers of chances outside of Bruno and a punt from an overlapping cross by Dalot/Shaw.

VERY disappointing performance. Should be played on the right so he’s forced to be less greedy

Crap decision making tonight, costing us a few goals. That is why i prefer him on the right. He needs to start playing it early to Rasmus.

Selfish, greedy and just generally annoying today. He seems to be getting too big for his boots at this point. A good manager will put him on the bench for a couple of games.
Benched for who?

Already thinks he is Ronaldo.

If we had a proper recruitment system, this guy would be behind our main wingers getting minutes of the bench and starting cup games. In our situation, he already thinks he is a superstar and acts like one on the pitch without first developing his game. He is extremely selfish and overlooks opportunities to pass or cross in trying to beat defenders or score goals. Constantly runs into walls or takes low percentage shots.

I also don't understand what are the instructions from the manager to him. Why isn't he being asked to also be a provider for Rasmus? Who has told him to be selfish like Ronaldo at every opportunity?

He's been one of our best players in the last few months in my opinion but I agree with those who are saying he is too greedy. a good manager would get him to stop that and get his head up more.

Criticism is way too harsh. He definitely has issues he needs to work out of his game but he's only 19. He's already our most effective forward player.

I agree.
He makes stupid decisions at times but the criticism is way OTT IMO. He'll learn and get better eventually, the guy is 19...

He's playeing exactly like you'd expect a young talented and eager 19 year old forward to play.

Problem is, the role he's been given, is that of an established and polished forward.

He can be world class if he has the correct attitude and puts in the work. Erik ten Hag and the senior players should help him by not letting him believe his own hype too much and guiding him along the way. So many young prospects go down that path and end up going nowhere.
Posted this more than a year ago. Case in point. He has started to buy into his hype too much. Having ego is great, but you have to temper it. Greed and selfishness like today will cost games tomorrow. That being said, he is just 19, so some of that is expected.

Garnacho is obviously a talented player, more so than Antony in my opinion, but both tend to overdo it and yesterday they both had shots at the centre of goal rather than going for the corners. It appears that they lose concentration at the vital time but I am sure a decent coach could sort this problem.

He'll be fine. I remember a certain cristian ronaldo getting pelters from Ruud because he wouldnt cross the ball. With a bit of time and constant coaching, Garnacho will too learn to cross at the right time.

Agreed but some people have no patience with young players and expect them to be finished products.

His movement off the ball last night was impressive and he'll always work himself into the ground but his decision making was pretty terrible.
When he's featured on the left , the constant need to come on to his stronger foot really halts the flow of our attacks, being selfish too doesn't help.

Better on the right. We're more direct and he's less inclined to cut in. Its more comfortable for him to be creative with his passing too. But we knew this.

He needs coaching. Nothing to over react to. A proper coach should be able to get him to play for the team and make better decisions in those positions. (Not insinuating that ETH isn’t one, that’s a debate for another thread).

Maybe but Ronaldo had winners around him and top coaching

United at the moment aren't providing either
