I'm reading on kotaku that the switch can't handle the game.

Nintendo can't be far away from releasing a new console and I won't be surprised if this is rereleased on there.

The graphics really are terrible. It's not just the framerate, it's also poor textures, lack of detail, vanishing or jumping shadows, people in the background moving like a robot with like 5 fps. Yeah the Switch is dated hardware, but if you look at Breath of the Wild in comparison, it's a night and day difference.

All that said, I'm a few hours in, similar level to Damien and having a lot of fun. While the optics could be a lot better, it's not game breaking or killing the immersion for me, it's a good game (at least the first few hours)

Pokemon games stopped being challenging about 8 generations ago (that beast of a Garchump aside), so not really. At least so far, no idea about the later stages

Overall - putting performance issues aside - it is a step forward for the series but there are some design decisions following previous games that you think "why the feck did they do that?". Some examples:
  • Removal of "Set" mode, which was a MSG staple and stopped the game asking you after every Pokemon you beat in a trainer battle if you want to change your Pokemon.
  • Not sticking with the option for you to be able to evolve your Pokemon when you want as long as it reached its evolution requirements (in Pokemon Legends Arceus). In ScVi, if you have your Pokemon out in Let's Go mode and they reach the level required to evolve, they won't. So you have to then level them up again in regular battles.
  • Camera for battles is a lot messier than PLA. Quite a few times I've started a battle and the camera points into the ground or something stupid.
  • In ScVi they've tried to make battles snappier and quicker... but you still get the dialogue for everything like Pokemon getting paralysed or whatever which just drags things out and is irritating.
  • No wide variety of clothing options in terms of tops and bottoms. You have the four uniforms and you have to stick with them.
  • Most buildings you can't actually enter - they're just facades. And the ones you can more often than not just present you with a menu to choose stuff from rather than having an interior.
  • Lack of shiny noise/sparkles which were present in PLA. Maybe they're making the excuse that people could go around the map too easily on there and find them easily but a large part of that was thanks to the presence of Braviary which put you 50 odd feet in the air to fly around, which you can't do in ScVi

Sounds a bit rough around the edges, but not that bad all things considered. Tha ks for the detailed write up.

Too bad. Pokemon kind of lost it's spark for me when they introduced the auto exp share making basically everything a OHKO, since all your stuff is such high level if you venture of the main path a bit.

Anyone in postgame wanting to do the Charizard raid but been unable to, it is easy to solo with Flutter Mane if you have the resources to train it up.

So Ash is being killed off

(well actually he isn't but the series will continue without him)

Made sense as he won the big tournament thingy and achieved his dream.

Pikachu will probably be the bigger loss as he's the mascot of Pokemon. My guess is the new protagonists will use Pawmo

Only got Violet the other day (didn't know there was one even coming out). Done a few random trades today and got a Charmander and a Scorbunny. Wanted to trade Fuecoco for a Quaxly but everyone wanted to trade a Fuecoco, did manage to trade one for a Sprigatito though.

Why have they made it now that XP is shared amongst all Pokémon? Ruins it.

The Pokemon subreddit are obsessed with shiny Pokémon hunting and perfects IVs my God. Can barely even ask a question about anything regarding the main storyline/play through anymore.

Will be fun to play those mini-games again - I'm surprised they haven't brought them back in some form. A "Pokemon Party" game like Mario Party would be a killer.

Unfortunately, unless they plan to add more functionality once/if they released the GameBoy Games onto the service, the bit that's supposed to be the main game is severely lacking. You really need to be able to use Pokemon you have trained yourself for the tournaments and bosses. Also, the double/triple-speed mode for GameBoy Games would obviously be useless.

I was never really a fan of Stadium personally. Might mean that the original Pokemon games may be added eventually as the appeal for people of playing Stadium goes down with just rental Pokemon.
I’ve never actually played it that’s probably why I’m so excited  Interestingly, I actually like the aspect of rental Pokémon it was one of my favourite things about the frontier in emerald

Have any fortunate souls that don’t work during the day given stadium a crack yet? Will be back later this evening with my own two pence once I have it up and running

ETA: Played it briefly after work yesterday evening. Won 1 cup so far. Enjoyed the little I played. Only gripe I have with the rental aspect is that when I did the lvl 15-20 (or whatever) cup…all the rental Pokemon available were at level 15 whereas my opponents had 20s, unless I am missing where we can select the level of ours? Anyway, all my Pokémon got wiped out by a level 20 tentacruel (wrap is a bitch)

Do you have to have Nintendo online or can you buy it from the store?

Still have a fully complete Stadium 2, worth quite a bit now. Excellent game. First one nowhere near as good.

With Ash's journey complete in the anime, the fan made game "Pokémon Fire Ash" has been complete and one of the features it has due to it being based off the anime is a restricted battle I think it's called, and I love it.

Basically, when you face a gym leader, someone in a league, a battle frontier person, etc, you can only choose the same amount of Pokémon for the battle your opponent has out of your party of 6. Assuming it's not a full battle of course! It's only for main character opponents so it's still easy to level up your team with regular enemies. I think it really adds to the strategy element. Especially if you don't know what your opponent has outside of gym leaders who are known for their types.

I'd love to see it added to more games in future.

To be fair I do those things anyway
Yeah most of those are just like the daft "consult your physician before using this machine" warnings at the gym. But if this app is half as bad the Pokemon Go app at overheating then a fair few will probably get grilled while sleeping.

Some of the move sets in Pokemon Stadium are god awful. I have been stuck on Claire in the gym castle cos I have nothing that can wipe out her Kingdra

Have Scarlett and Violet improved since their release, those games looked horrible but are they at least functional now?

You're...going to love me
Got a switch recently so catching up on some of the ones I missed. Pokemon sword was absolutely terrible. I don't know if it was billed half a game but that's exactly what it was. The pokemon league was scrapped for a 3 match tournment where you could heal in between, no caves or mazes to navigate and the end game was non existent. I'm on Legends Arceus and I'm enjoying the novely of it so far but I don't know how long that will last. I've got Scarlet lined up after but judging by some of the comments in here that isn't going to be much better.

Did you get round to playing this? It looks quite cool

Oh, yeah. Did years ago after seeing a youtuber named "HeroVoltsy" - who plays pretty much every fan made Pokémon game there is - LP it. I mentioned here because I thought it deserved as much attention as possible.

The amazing thing is, back then, it only went up to one of the later seasons of the anime which already made for a long game, but the developer carried on adding every season/region into the game until Ash's story in the anime finished recently. The dedication was something else.

It's probably my favourite Pokémon game because I always preferred the anime set up in terms of choosing a certain amount of Pokémon from your party to face a gym leader in an even battle, and the league format instead of an elite four. Not to mention going from one region to the next. Plus, like the huge nerd I am, I like using the same teams as Ash

Imagine me as someone who plays it with Ash's team trying to win with a Squirtle and Bulbasaur. It's hard enough without the abominable movesets!
