Pellestri is likely heading on loan this week so Amad will always have a spot in the 18-man squad for matchdays. He'll get his chances.

If he's getting his knickers in a twist for not getting gametime in his second available match, then he needs to manage his expectations better - as well as a lot of people on here.

Yet another in a myriad of cases over the years, where a player is neither played nor sold, but instead sits around doing nothing until his value reaches rock bottom or he leaves on a free. We should have cashed in immediately after his loan spell at Sunderland. Instead, played him in the preseason and he of course got injured for half a year. But now once again he is neither sold nor loaned, and he isn't starting even against bloody Newport County. Which doesn't come as a surprise, of course. After all, he is competing with Ten Hag's mate for the position, so he was never going to be first choice.

So, then why not just sell him and Pellistri? Whenever Antony isn't available, the position has been filled by Garnacho. And you can bet Mount will also be preferred ahead of them for the RW position, if he ever becomes available, that is.

Criminal incompetence.

He uses the squad in an incredibly erratic way, I have lost count of the number of players who have been ignored for periods than thrown in at times of desperation its almost as if he has no idea what he is doing (almost). If you are in his favoured few it's very hard to be dropped
I think it’s more likely that we have no idea what he is doing than that he does. The point of my post, however, was not about Ten Hag in general, but about what we have reason to surmise about why Amad didn’t play yesterday.

He's been injured for the entirety of the season! Did you seriously expect him to start last night? Why are people het up about this? I absolutely agree with those that are disappointed he didn't come on as a sub, but being annoyed that he didn't start doesn't make a jot of sense. It was never, ever going to happen for very obvious reasons.

Agreed. People who are disappointed that he didn’t start yesterday is either setting themselves up for disappointment, or they are disingenuous.

I was disappointed he didn’t come on yesterday. I’d hoped he was ahead of Forson in line, and I thought Garnacho had a rarher ineffectual game both sides of the pitch. When Forson comes on first, I take it that Amad haven’t shown he’s ready at Carrington.

Is Amad having a moan when this is only the second game of the season he's been available for? Having got minutes in the first game he was available for.

These boys have developed some serious attitude problens.
“Having a moan” is probably harsh considering he used 2 emojis and no words that I have seen

Now that we have close to a full squad back, ETH will go back to his habit of not rotating. It’s pretty much RW and RB that he will swap players in and out going forward and RW will be Antony or Rashford.

What is your source to claim that Amad have serious attitude problems?

Well exactly what I put in the post. He seems to be publicly agreeing it was wrong for him to npt be selected. Which is quite a thing from a young lad whose done very little and been frequently injured.

We could debate my wording but bigger picture, it's another young lad for some reason thinking he's owed a start.

Sorry, you mean its logic that he gets a premier league sub appearance, playing approx 40 min 30 December, that he would never be able to start a game against a div 4. team 1 month later?
Please elaborate why that "very obvious"

Because he's played 30 cocking minutes of football in the past 6 months. How often do players ever immediately start games having been injured for so long? It's also the first opportunity ten Hag has had to play a near full strength 11, for the first time all season. Expecting him to start Diallo who's just returned and who he's barely worked with is just fecking stupid.

Antony got a goal and assist, whilst Amad has just come back from injury. Criticise ten Hag for now starting him but this wasn't the fame to do that.

We need Antony in form as he's clearly the preferred player, hopefully this kick starts his season.

If Amad were still recovering from injury then of course not playing him was the right decision, but I am not aware of any factual basis for the claim that Amad was not fit to play.

In the end we got the win, and it is factually true that Antony scored a goal and got an assist, but he was consistently ineffective against a League Two fullback.

Its not "fecking stupid", its favoritism and stubbornness to do the same thing over and over again, failing the exact same way. You have a promising cameo 4 weeks ago against a PL club, and you wont give the player a single minute gametime against a div 4 side, it paints a picture that he is happy with the performance and he see no value in adding competition to the role.
Im ok with not starting him, but its shocking to finish with him on the bench when the attack plays like a disjointed kindergarten team: "shoot, shoot"

You'd have to be blind if you think our wingers did well yesterday, so start subbing them!!

I really like what I've seen of Amad, and he strikes me as a pretty, grounded person, but for fecks sake, why not thing before liking something like that? A big priority of the new regime should be instilling a proper sense of professionalism amongst the squad, knowing when and when not to like/post/share on social media, etc. Probably a mission impossible, but still.

I see. I agree that ‘moan’ and ‘serious attitude problems’ is too harsh reading that one x-file. It’s also worth noting that the message is just as much a message of appreciacion from a fan as anything else, and it’s probably just as likely that the ‘like’ was triggered by that appreciacion. With a level head and understanding of the world of digital publicity, sure, you should learn to avoid stuff like that. But one 20 year old kid messing that up once is for me far too little evidence of the attitude assesment you claim. Samcho and Rashford, those are two other stories, but I don’t think it reasonable to brush Amad over the same comb based on that.

Its pretty fair for amad to be upset if he was stopped from going on loan because he was told he'd be used .. and then proceeds to not even get a minute against Newport. If he's not playing in this game when Rashford is out, what hope does he have for any minutes? Why wasn't he sent out on loan?

It just seems to me like a manager stock piling players and not being totally honest about the roles he actually plans for them.

Well his chances have just improved by a tiny percent with Rashford possibly being out for a few games now. It’ll go to Antony and Garnacho first but he’s got some kind of chance of getting some minutes. I think a loan is still the best option at this point

Surely it's the club who should be upset given what's been invested and how little it's had in return?

It's the end of Jan and he's been available for two games. One of which he featured in. He's no place being upset. What chance of a full career has he got if he's this delicate?

He just needs to crack on, keep his head down, actually be available and take the chance when it comes.

Jesus Christ dude, my first post literally said I was disappointed that he wasn't subbed on (but understood why he didn't start). The least you can do is take the time to actually read the posts you interact with.

Diallo is an idiot. There's a reason he isn't being started. He has form for daft social media interactions and not showing humility or being grounded in his own development.

^ His response after seeing Bristol's Alex Scott win player of the month instead of him during the Sunderland spell. So him liking social media posts to put fire on his manager is no surprise to me.

We only see the tip of the iceberg when evaluating on why and how players start over another. You don't see everything underneath.

Diallo himself looks like he has a lot of maturing to do.

There's plenty of reasons why I don't think ETH is the man for the job, but his handling of Amad isn't one of them. I'm not sure he's even been fit for more than 2 or 3 match days this season.

What difference does it make if he was, or wasn't fit? He didn't play, Antony scored a goal and got an assist in a 4-2 win, that's all that matters and we move onto the next game.

He's been injured all season, that's why he hasn't played.

The post was a tongue in cheek message from the fans of the club he spent last season with and his liking it was him appreciating the relationship he has built with them. The conclusions people are leaping to based on a social media post are full on tin foil hat crazy.

Im not sure that there has been a youngster that EtH has handled badly. Given Garnacho plenty of games, slowly introduced Mainoo, seems to be slowly introducing Kambwala. People called for Pellistri only for him to prove useless, called for Hannibal only for him to fail to impress. If Amad is as good as we think (and I think he is) he will eventually get an opportunity to force his way into the team. I think EtH has shown if someones good enough they will get an opportunity at some point so not sure why the throwing the toys out the pram from some people.

We should make a series about it. Seems like people would lap it up.

The opponent was a mid-table League Two side. Antony in no way has done enough this season to make him untouchable in the way that, for example, Bruno or Shaw has. Antony did produce two goal contributions and we did get the win, so all's well that ends well, but if Amad can't even be subbed on against a League Two side there's very little point having him in the squad. I'm not here to suggest that Amad is the next Ronaldo but I am suggesting that we have players who are in the squad and unless they've shitted their pants in their one or two appearances we need to give them a shot against opponents like this. We've got Wolves coming up then West Ham and if we have doubts about Amad's ability to cope with Newport County those doubts would be true of any PL opponent. And if it's all about rotation in a short period of time, the time to give Amad a shot would have been against Newport County, not Wolves or West Ham.

You know what the German’s say: Fussball ist a Gaüm von 90 minutten bezweehn zwo Mannschaften, und in der Ende some United heads gotta feckin roll!

I think he should have made an appearance but I’m just not as dramatic about it as you.

Fair enough - just think twice before liking posts on social media.

Can you elaborate? This wasn't exactly clear.
Even if he was average, you would expect him to do well against a League 2 side. He was in the Championship just last season, and did really well.

I also don't have a problem with people thinking it's just not a big deal, and that Ten Hag will eventually play him throughout this 2nd half to the season. But people that are bringing up fitness are also having a laugh. It's a League 2 side, and Amad has been training with United players the past month apart from his PL appearance a month ago.

A game in which he did very well, it's worth adding

I was hoping to see him, more out of taste and curiosity than any strong belief he would play better than any of our other wide options, though.

But may I ask, what do you think was the thought process behind putting on Forson ahead of him?

Ridiculous that he hasn't been played more. I don't want to go en route criticising the manager, but his lack of substitutions is becoming a farce.

Diallo could easily have replaced Bruno in the 80th minute and nearly gotten 20 minutes of football towards the end. He has played in the position before, and Bruno also needs someone to replace him from time to time. Nobody benefits from being overplayed.

Although Antony was, for the first time almost at United, quite productive, against a league 2 opposition mind you, he still wasn't great.
