Who replaces Ten Hag?

Let’s bring back big Ron then, how old is he now?:wenger:

Seriously though with the right men in the boardroom I can think of no one better than McKenna, especially if he gets Ipswich up. I’d like to see him in the PL and if Hag is still making a balls of it come Christmas then go for our old under 18’s coach who has learned proper management and how to get the best out of a small squad.
Fed up to the back teeth of these foreign managers.
feck that, we can't afford to give ten Hag until Christmas to feck things up further. He has to go, ideally right now so we stand a chance in the FA Cup. Also not sure what foreign managers have to do with anything.

Look at our track record. Van Gaal, terrible football, Jose didn’t get the backing he should have if he did we might have pushed on but he’s an exception to the rule. Now Ten Hag, not a lot to cheer.
These foreign managers are slowly eroding our game, Im talking of all managers now. They moan about the fixture list, they moan about The FA Cup the biggest best and most famous domestic cup competition in the world. They have carried on so much that from next season there will be no replays at all.
Back to United I just want someone who knows and understands the area, knows just how much the fans love and why they love the club so much, knows the history of this once great club but alas we just go for some exotic sounding foreigner who has done well in a slower league which is less competitive.

All managers moan, British or otherwise. C'mon. Football is full of overpaid individuals that are constantly competing at the highest level with high levels of public scrutiny - people from all backgrounds within football voice their grievances about whatever has got their goat on any given day. Nationality has shit all to do with it.

I'm getting more and more positive towards a couple of years of Tuchel (but I'm a hopeless optimist). I think there are several players in the squad that would suit him quite well.

I must have missed that one? It’s odds on that we will be heading into Arteta’s 6th season with Arsenal and all he has to show for it is 1 (Covid) FA Cup.

I’m not sure on what planet that should be considered a success.
This and last season have been their best league seasons in 20 years. They may still win their first title since the Invincibles. Don't really understand what's confusing you.

But then you look at the current best English manager and you see it's Eddie Howe. Then the next best is a chronically unemployed guy in Potter. Then an untested championship manager in McKenna.

And I wouldnt mind the idea of hiring McKenna if we could somehow guarantee that 70-80% of the squad would turnover before he arrives, but that aint happening.

While I think Tuchel is the outstanding candidate, Marco Silva, Iraola and Gary O'Neil are very respectable suggestions.

I can see mckenna often mentioned, if we were to go down that route I would prefer carrick over him because of carrick's status at the club which will gain more respect from the players in the same way arteta did at arsenal or pep at barca and it's not like there is a big gulf in carrick and mckenna managerial ability

Good coaches invariably do not get sacked, because the clubs want to keep them. Tuchel has been sacked 4 times, from clubs that are run much better than MUFC.
That's a bold statement to make about each of the four clubs.
Dortmund has wasted the chance to become a long term challenger to Bayern and turned into a meme of failure.
PSG was a circus under Leonardo and only recently appeared to act more sensible.
Chelsea under Boehly is ridiculous.
Bayern has turned into a circus during the last 2-3 years and far away from the flawless machine it was a decade ago.

At the time of sacking Tuchel arguably none of those clubs was better run that MUFC. Difference is that MUFC has that problem for more than a decade now, while at the other clubs it's mostly shorter times of trouble.

That's completely false. Klopp, Wenger, Jose, Emery, Conte, Ancelotti have all been sacked (some multiple times) despite being some of the best managers of the last 2 decades. Pep and SAF are 2 very rare examples of managers who never got sacked even after managing top clubs (more of a reflection of how exceptional they are, and even SAF came close to being sacked)

They do though. Ancelotti who is an all-time great has been sacked at least 6 times in his career.

Ultimately, it's not a huge deal. Getting sacked isn't this huge black mark that our fanbase thinks it is.

SAF did get sacked by St. Mirren, interestingly enough

Yeah getting in McKenna would be signaling a longer term rebuild and full turnover. Getting in Tuchel signals looking to turn things around quickly. Each has it's own benefits/negatives.

And I think giving a feck what nationality a manager is is fecking insane considering how global the league is now anyways.

I rate McKenna and think he's performing miracle in Ipswich. But I don't think he stands a chance with our lot. This lot already threw a lot of more established managers under the bus. He wouldn't last one season with our circus.

I think the last manager I was actually properly keen on was LVG.

Wasn't keen on Mourinho or Ole at all. After being excited for Rangnick and then preferring Pochettino, sort of went in fully behind on ETH hoping he would bring some of that Ajax all total dominance play with him. I was still behind him in the summer thinking there was so much to work with from last season. To then throw all of that away with this current high press, low block no midfield nonsense makes me have no faith anymore in anything. I said it at the time but the Mount transfer was the biggest red flag for me, even worse than the 7-0. Mount is not a bad player at all but it basically proved a lot of our fears in that he didn't actually care for a midfield than wants to midfield.

I'm tired Robbie.

I would take lvg back on a 2 year contract, it would be a natural evolution of type of manager that can improve on ten hag ideas and suited to players we already have and with a coherent set up behind the scenes now lvg can just do the coaching and let the likes of wilcox etc.. get on with sorting out the recruitment.

LvG had us playing absolutely dire football. It was just at the opposite end of the chaos spectrum.

I don't want us to change manager, but I would be surprised if we get more than a point or two from our remaining games and we will probably lose the final. If that happens I think they'll make the change. Not many good options to choose from out there - Tuchel is probably the one to go with. My wildcard pick would be Iraola from Bournemouth.

Which club did sack Klopp? Can't think of any.

Also wrong. There are more. You can add Zidane, Deschamps, Simone, Enrique, Streich (Freiburg). Frank Schmidt (Heideheim)

Finally Gareth is not favourite. Tuchel 2/1 now. I’m okay with that.

The bookies know feck all about stuff like this, their odds will change with the wind and every dodgy newspaper report.

The only thing that is sadder is the people who actually spend their money on markets like this.

The decision has most likely already been made. We have nothing to play for aside from the cup final. They are not going to sack or keep him based on those games.

Bookies basically make a judgement on what the public rumours state. So I like to look at it on what is most likely on the information out there.

Didn’t he get sacked by Scotland too?

Might be wrong about that, but he certainly wasn’t there long
I don't think so, he was on the coaching staff and then took over for the World Cup after Jock Stein's sudden death. Given that he was also managing Aberdeen at the time, I don't think he ever planned to remain in the role beyond an interim capacity.

No he didn't get sacked, he took over when Jock Stein died and left after the WC that year
Thanks!

I hope we can land Tuchel (provided he knows his remit is to coach and not to dictate transfer strategy).

A tactically flexible no-BS coach, who has won major trophies, and is an intimidating, fiery character.

Sign me up.
