since I can’t post in match day threads yet, I was absolutely shocked at people reaction here towards that Lichas tackle. Maybe it’s a cultural thing (and that’s why he does it often) but that’s a very normal kind of fight for the ball in Argentinian football. You aim to put all the strength on the ground to get the ball, you don’t really want to hurt the other guy. In fact, it’s Adama the one who stepped on Lichas feet. It’s kind of agressive but here it’s something not that crazy.

On the other hand, his celebration is a typical gesture from a tropical genre musician called Carlos Jimenez, who is an icon in this genre. Very famous in Argentina.

Great goal, that two footed challenge on Traore not so great though.
The way we play 3-4-3, often the ball is left to our centre backs and we need them to step forward and progress the play. Licha is the only one of the back three that's consistently taking that responsibility. He's not had the best of seasons but, right now, we're relying on him for progression out of defence. Everyone else is happy to take 10 touches and play a five yard square ball.
Needs to stop with those stupid, weird two-footed "stamps" that he does.

Really like the way he steps forward to join the attack quite often in this formation. I'd rather see him with the ball at his feet 25 yards from goal with a chance to shoot or pass rather than any of our other players except maybe Bruno or Amad.

He was fouled and he watch how Traore was coming at him, you have to stand your ground.
I agree hes not ahad a great season but the last couple of games he is back to his best. Great assist last game and a goal this.
Amorim played a blinder resting him against Brighton. He looked gassed against Southampton (off the back of an immense performance at the Emirates). He was very good mid week and strong again today.
He's the one player who you can really tell is starting to understand what he is supposed to do in this system. If only the other 2 CB's will start pushing up with him and have the same patience on the ball we will see an improvement in our build up play.
You're not the only one. It's as you said, it's only a dangerous tackle if the intention is to actually tackle the player i.e win the ball, which could obviously mean hitting them. Martinez's lunges are to stamp his feet into the ground and intercept/get position.
Our best player on the ball. Maguire and de Ligt were tragic in progressing the ball. So passive, slow and ponderous.
MotM. Aside from the goal him and Bruno are really the only players that can create anything from deeper positions.
He has to attack more, I know everyone in the team is too afraid of loosing another game, of being caught out of guard with too much space, yet he has to attack more and other players return the ball when he does it, he has a great strike in him and he can carry the ball while reating it if pressured.
Sometimes he will fail, yet teh risk is worthy with his strike and final ball/cross. More when the team right now is struggling to find a prolific forward.

Licha Rojo. He defo picked those lunges up from Cuti Romero. Wasn’t doing it in his first season.

Yeah, you might get away with one of them.in the system, but they're both so slow in our build up, it's a problem
I hate sofascore, yet he has a 7.07 rating overall and just recently he had very good to great games against Bournemouth (even loosing and some mistake), Arsenal (FA Cup), Liverpool, Rangers, today...there were too many knee jerk reactions because the backline was extremely exposed too many times, because he will always be a midget and he was struggling to recover full form after every injury he was having in the last year and a half.
Goal against Liverpool, really calm pen in the shootout vs Arsenal, assist for the winner vs Rangers and the winning goal tonight.

Anyway, while at that silly complain, Traore came out of frame and literaly push him (quite a yellow that action) and later Licha reacted, that was the whole thing. If that helped for him being mad and go forward? thank you Traore.

No man, for christ sake, if you just put yourself behind the ball, nothing would be call, that's why the ref even went to see if he was ok. If he JUMPS over the rival's feet, you are in problem, no matter if it's both feet or one.
Also there are instances that if a train like Traore are going after you, you don't have many alternatives and you can end injured at the same time, that stance it's as old as football.

I'm not going to explain to you why jumping in the air and clamping down two footed in the exact space that your opponent runs into is dangerous and stupid.
Given what the Arsenal lad got sent off for, was lucky ref didn’t take another look at the two footed challenge

Stupid it's to see a foul in a play that the ref actually granted him a foul, you have to do it right, he is not falling from ten feet high, nor with his studs high, he just put both feet to deal with Traore full body going over him and he got the ball and the foul.
PD: BTW Leaving this play aside and in general, even when he actually makes a foul, or fights, so be it. This team needs a blood transfusion and people complains about one of the few that have some blood running through his veins and tries to win every match fit, not fit, with the team firing all clinders or sucking. WTF

I love Licha, lots of us do. We appreciate his fight and his quality.
That doesn't mean a two footed stamp is a great idea, and he's done it more than once now. If he makes contact, it's a leg breaker, a red card, and a long ban. You don't have to defend everything he does.
If you really want to sit and argue that this isn't an absolutely idiotic and dangerous way to tackle then have at it mate.
It's stupid and I'm pretty sure he did it cause he has some weird personal issues with Adama.

No white text? It took a huge deflection. He hit it nicely but I'm not sure if it would be the goal without it, Leno was very well positioned.
It depends on the play, certain plays demand you to stand your ground and protect yourself like that play was, specially agaisnt a player of the build of Traore and the beef between the two prior to this match. That's why he even won a foul and not just the ball. By no means every two footed stance is a foul like many here seems to believe.
PD: Do you want to know what was way sillier than that two footed stance? to get distracted complaining about the rival not sending the ball out because Ugarte was "injured" while the ball was still on play. That's SILLY as fvck and I'm tired of teams later receiving a goal, or being caught out of position because of protesting such things, the ref decides it, not the rival if the match stops or not.
Worse when he continued to complain after the ref stopped the match, he even made Traore go after him, luckly he didn't reacted over the top like he can after being pushed, but that push more than probaly would have not existed if Traore didn't felt that he had to make a stance because of Licha discussing with one of his mates.

He is behind the ball, he covers his ground and protects himself while not leaving space to go through his place. Tell me just one thing, who got the foul? Now, if he actually went for Traore's legs, that an entire diff play, it wasn't the case, therefore he won the ball and the foul. It's not that complicated.
Martinez takes on alot of the progressive burden from the midfield which is of a low quality when it comes to progressing the ball. And that is one of the biggest issues with the team and makes us very one dimensional. We need better midfielders with progressive ability on the ball whilst also being strong in the duel, especially covering ground.
He's a great little head case. People were wrongfully writing him off recently.
