Same issues keep happening, the heavy footedness and the shots getting parried back into danger. It has a knock on effect throughout the team
Brought in because he was good with his feet, but i'm not seeing it

Do feel tonight is a turning point

I feel pretty confident in saying we can sell Onana and it won’t come back to bite us in the arse. Don’t give him away, but anything more than £15m and we’ve done well.

I don't remember the full quote but Omar Berrada mentioned players get 2 years to prove themselves.

Looking at Onana's performances over 2 seasons should make it very clear he is not the one.

Tonight's game wasn't even one of his bad game either, he just isn't reliable in those big moments.

He’s done us a massive favour. I bet there were some people at the club who didn’t see the need to sign another Goalkeeper. But after his comments and today, it needs to be a priority.

Agreed. Matic basically captured the sentiment that a large swath of United fans probably felt, but didn't quite feel comfortable saying because we have more pressing problems at striker.

De Gea had to go, but feck me replacing him with this weapon is one hell of a downgrade.

An absolute circus clown from his very first game.

Ok, I’ve calmed down now. He’s probably not worse than Taibi but feck it’s close.

Fronting out a bad situation is one thing, but actively mocking and goading points toward something more concerning to me - if there's any time to be humble, it's in a game where you've already made a massive feck up, but he doesn't... he gives it the big 'un before making yet another blunder. Unbelievable.

I'm desperate for him to be sold. Can't be dealing with calamitous keepers; they unsettle far too many players.
It would worry me from a recruitment point of view as it always felt like Fergie and Gold brought in the right type of characters to the club and made sure those background checks were assessed thoroughly and as important as their playing ability. Feels like it's been neglected recently.

We are fecked with bayindir as our second choice. That's why we need a strong no2, quite obviously we recruit a new no1 after this season though. Really really hope. Previous managers always overlooked a player or two who underperformed. Amorim's seems to have a weak spot in Dalot a bit, although we have no choice there yet. Just hope Onana is not another one.

How much is Vergbrugen? Or maybe we can be smart with someone more experienced and cheaper like Sels. Kovar as a second choice too.. if we can get money for Onana.

When I saw people predicting it yesterday, I just felt it would happen. And it happened!

This really doesn’t need to be a head scratching conundrum this summer at all.

Bayindir is there. If they don’t feel he’s up to it as first choice, there are generally always decent and reliable, if unspectacular, goalkeepers to be had for under £10m.

Get someone who is 34+ and plug the gap for a few seasons.

If we are a serious club then this guy cannot be our first choice keeper next season

I agree in that I don't think the 2nd goal was on him. The team was too deep and gave away far too many shots from 12 yards out in the 2nd half. Also leaving Cherki onside too
You can look at it in a few ways like with Casemiro getting done so easily and not brilliant defending but the shot was straight at him. He has previous of parrying the ball in to dangerous areas and done it again. A decent gk does so much better and think he can catch it or stop it dead and fall on it. He saw it all the way through.

We’re stuck with him for next season. There’s already been stories of him resisting any moves to Saudi in order to stay at the club, and no-one else is stupid enough to take him off us.

Inter sold us this bum for 60M and replaced him with Sommer for 5.

ETH has blood on his hands…

With Taibi, there was little expectation since he was a bit of an under the radar signing. Onana was supposed to replace De Gea.
Taibi was quickly found out and moved on.

This guy is another untouchable for some fecking reason

People used to talk crazy on De Gea’s name - granted he had been off form for a while, but we would 100% be in a better place with him instead of Onana

Calamitous signing

Taibi only made a few appearances because we also had Rai and Bosnich at the time (we bought him after Bosnich got injured iirc) He did get MOTM at Anfield before his howler vs Soton. This guy was supposed to revolutionize us at keeper because people were moaning that Dave didn't have good box presence or distribution - but in the end, Onana didn't really do any of that and we could've just continued with Dave and had similar results.

Onana was such a weird signing in every sense. The fact he cost 50m when he moved for free the year before should’ve rung alarm bells.

I defended him before but yea it's gotten a lot worse this year. Both goals he should have saved.

Yeah its mindbending to think that we wasted over 100m on Hojlund and Onana. Just think of where we could use that money this window.

I thought DDG in his last season for us was bad but feck me give me him any day over the clown show we witness on a regular basis with Onana. It’s like starting a goal down most games, any other team would think that’s job done if they score in added time but with him between the sticks you’re never safe until the ref blows the final whistle!
The issue was errors with De Gea more than distribution, if he kept saving like he did in the mid 2010s with no mistakes then he would never have left, that would have more than made up for his poor distribution. But he made as many mistakes as Onana did in big games at the end.

But even in his worst days, his general shot stopping was better than Onana. He would still pull off more worldies. Onana has let in a few that weren’t howlers this season but I think De Gea would have saved.

the same summer we balked at 100m for Harry Kane.

There isn't one game where you feel confident he won't make a mistake.

Why do we care about his confidence? He's a useless keeper, there is no reason he should ever wear a United shirt.

Dump him for the rest of the season
Agreed. Couldn’t care less how Onana feels. He lost any potential sympathy by goading the Lyon fans and talking rubbish on socials before the game.

He’s the one talking himself up, whilst being an absolute clown. He needs to deal with the consequences.

Would you rank Barthez’s time with us as a better stint than Onana’s current display?

I’ve seen Onana pull off some incredible saves but he is prone to some basic errors and that’s never what you want in a keeper much less a United one.

100%. Barthez won 2 league titles. And only cost us Europe in one of the seasons he was here as opposed to both.

I never rated this joker. It comes back to ETH, another bloody joker who can't differentiate average versus good player. It is what I dislike about him, his kicking is nothing to rave about, his slowness into distribution to start a counterattack (ball is in his hand), putting team mate under pressure with poor pass, decent shot stopper (not great), weak at corners. How can United have such a weak keeper? Onana and Hoijund wouldn't start any top clubs.
