He's miles from being ready, rarely beats his man and and worse of all rarely crosses the ball
This.

Its not about one or two bad games but I have never really seen what the fuss is about?

(the fuss about him being the next best player created here by everyone)

You haven't seen what "the fuss" is about?.

Still very raw and doubt he'll make much of an impact until next season but you'd have to be blind not to see any potential in the bloke.

good news that.

source?

;)
Last season Nani played 13 league games, Obertan's played 5, given this does include a month or two injured it's not too much of a stretch to think he could get 8-9 sub appearances before the seasons end.

he strikes me as a bit of a lazy gimp, could be fitness related mind

otherwise he's got the vision for a pass, some neat tricks and decent pace but he's also got much work to do (crossing, shooting, positioning, defensive work)

based on that I'd say he's more likely to fail than succeed but at 3mil it's worth the gamble (just)

Don't forget, if we do sell him it won't be for nothing, if he can't make it here he will be good enough to play at a fairly high level, almost certain in thos ecircumstances to at least get our money back.

im worried now for him that he wont make it, just like the millers, djemba djumbos and bellions, but i hope i am wrong, he seems a likeable chap.
Why, he obviously has more skill than the rest of the afore mentioned put together.

Nanis form has obviously afected his first team starts but he is still a boy... plenty of time to develop yet.

Obviously showed a lot of promise and was thrown into the deep end. It was maybe he'll just be that good.

A lot of OTT reaction when it happened. Noticed a lot of match day thread posts saying he must start (maybe that was in the newbies section) etc but, it became plain to see that he wasn't ready.

He's got skill and pace - now it's time to develop both frame, stamina (after long lay off) and footballing brain. Hopefully reserves game will provide that and start of next season, he'll be competing for first team games against Nani and Valencia.

Only downside is after coming into the first team so fast and then being back in the reserves, the psychological hit could be considerable. Hopefully not.

anybody else see him last week driving before the city match outside the united chippy across from the blaize/trafford bars?

was amazed to look up and there he was, driving a shitty french jeep that was years old. he seemed happy though he looked like he was lost as he drove off into town rather than heading to the stadium.

Why hasn't he been in the squad recently? Just being eased in?

His skill, dribbling, speed and accurate short passing make him a useful player. However his poor finishing and his crossing need to be improved for next season as without polishing these skills I'm not sure how far he can go in the game. I'm sure thats exactly what he's working on though. With a bit of luck Nani's form on the right could mean a few more matches for Obertan on the left.

He is talented but very raw.

The fuss I am talking about is how everyone here was convinced he is the next Ronaldo or something.

Yes but isn't that just what the forum's about?

You don't have believe everything that's posted as objectivity.

Obertan has been bought for the future. The potential's there for sure and like a number of players on our books at present needs time

So he probably should have chosen another sport eh?
maybe but he also possesses a good footballing brain and excellent dribbling and passing skills.

Lets hope he's a fast learner.

It's funny how things work in cycles in football. When Obertan first arrived, not many were convinced by Valencia. Park was injured and Nani was extremely hit and miss. All of a sudden, we see a few promising performances and he was probably slightly overrated by everyone.

Fast forward to now, and Valencia has settled absolutely superbly. Nani has been reborn and Park has shown that he can play a big role when he can stay fit.

Obertan clearly has talent, but he's well behind in the pecking order and he'll have to wait his turn. He made a bit of a breakthrough, but he's not going to get many games at the business end of the season unless injuries strike.

People can step back now, he was bought for the future and like Nani was early in his united career will not play often during a crucial-closest title run in a few years and a likely tough run in europe. We may see him in the CC final though.

I'm not expecting much from him for the rest of the season, just for him to work hard in training and learn from lads. Next season he'll have a fresh start and will be around for the whole season. His vast potential is there, it may take a fair bit to bring it out of him but he is only 19 (irrc).

Just saw highlights of the reserve game vs Everton .... Obertan looked positively dazzling, much like a young fat ronaldo or young Henry.

Sure its at reserve level but the boy certainly has talent

Why the feck isn't he in the squad that has travelled to Everton? BBC says he isn't.. IMO opinion he should be on the bench atleast..

the bbc aren't very good. I'm sure he'll get some minutes if we're needing a goal late on

He played well against Everton, in general, though his passing was not great. Needs to work on that. The tricks and pace are fantastic.

Hmmm But why the feck is BBC so mis-informed? They put up a squad and according to them Obertan doesn't travel all together.. And they included Fabio even though he is injured..

Not sure why he's been given so many chances. He's clearly not ready. Completely wasted substitution today.

Everton right flank looked like possessed once Obertan and Gosling came in.

From what I've seen so far from him I can't say I'm impressed, nor do I see too much potential...Hopefully he will prove me wrong
