    Darmian--Jones--Smalling--Blind
    Willock--Carrick--Pogba
    Mata--Martial--Rooney

subs: Romero, Bailly, Mitchell, Herrera, Lingard, Mkhitaryan, Rashford

or Lingard for Willock with Rooney dropping into midfield; giving us a greater counter-attacking threat.
He has already said these players will be rested, but you never know.

    How did Arsenal lose this
I'm really wondering how they lost that game against that team. IMO Schneiderlin was under-rated in this forum, he didn't get many chances under Jose, maybe we could have given more chances to him and then judged him.

I am honestly shocked at how many of yous are falling for Mourinho's mindgames .

These youth players have only travelled to give off the illusion that they will actually start and play.

There is no way in hell Mourinho risks losing the unbeaten streak to fecking Wenger!

DDG; Darmian, Bailly/Jones, Smalling, Blind; Carrick, Pogba, Herrera; Mata, Martial, Mkhitaryan
I think he's putting all the pressure on Arsenal and completely relieving pressure from us. Now if We win Arsenal will be a joke of a club in everyone's eyes, and if we lost was because we were resting players for the EL. He basically put all results in his favor and made all the pressure to be thrown over Arsenal.

I am resting them. I wouldn't put Bailly or Rashford on the bench but I think they will be.
They're all within the squad, wouldn't have made sense to take them if the intention were to leave them out. Gonna field a strong team, you heard it here first. :boring:

It's a mind game. Arsenal won't be sure which team we will put out since we've taken all senior players available bar Valencia and some Reserves players. If he made it clear that he will start some Reserves players (for example) these players would be studied thoroughly and specifically targeted. On the other hand if his travelling squad indicates that he will field a strong team those players that have played a lot last month would be specifically targeted as well. It's a clever strategy. We might end up playing some Reserves players because the Celta game is much more important and we need the squad in the best condition for that game but it doesn't mean that we should not do everything we can to get results on this game.

    Schneirdelin was woeful last season.

Anyone remember the game at Upton Park?

As bad a midfield performance as I had seen.

    What a day this was.
That O'Shea goal has always been one of my favourite United goals. Against Arsenal when they were our biggest title rivals, it was the biggest game of the season for me as a teenager.

I get the feeling that both managers would take a draw here just to get the game out of the way. José has basically admitted that he doesn't expect us to finish fourth now, so even if he won't say it openly, Arsene has to feel exactly the same as they can't reach a higher points total than us. Obviously, it only takes one screw up by Liverpool and we're back in the mix, but I can't see us beating both Arsenal and Spurs with the Celta game in-between. We won't want to lose this unbeaten run, however, and Arsenal will just want to avoid defeat at all cost after the Spurs defeat as well.

    De Gea
    Darmian Smalling Jones Blind
    Herrera Carrick Pogba
    Mata Rooney
    Martial

I think we'll see something like this initially. An industrial side that will keep tight in the first half. If we can do that, Jose may decide to risk it and go for the sucker punch with Mkhitaryan/Rashford. If not, he'll probably give some kids a run out from the bench.

    1-1.

Same. The only match for me we dared not lose. Miss the intensity of those games.
Growing up during that rivalry has shaped my own thinking. I'd rather see City win the league than Arsenal.

I don't believe for a second José's given up on 4th. Should we win today, no one else will either.
Pushing Liverpool down to 5th would be extremely satisfying.

Getting into the Champions League via winning the Europa League and snatching 4th from Liverpool would be hilarious.

I'm not really fussed by the team today, anyone he needs any sort of rest should get it. Not particularly bothered by the result either.

What I am interested in seeing is our approach to the game. A draw is no good to us, even a win might not be in the long run, but we have to go out and try to attack as much as possible. I haven't been critical of us parking the bus, but doing it today would be pure vanity.

In my opinion, I think Mourinho will be very defensive minded. I can see us parting the bus and hoping to catch them on the break....which we might do but probably miss the chance! Anyway, he's right to rest the players, we really need total freshness for Thursday. I don't think I've ever been as nonplussed about a game against Arsenal as I am today. Having said that, I'll still feel like crap if we lose badly. Football eh?

Whilst I agree, we should be resting players ahead of Thursday given the importance placed on winning the Europe League now.

That said, having grown up in the 90s and really falling in love with United during the Fergie vs Wenger time, I dislike Arsenal and can't stand losing to them even more so than City and Chelsea.

Hard to call, I think it depends on which Arsenal turns up. One thing for certain is Danny will score....

Winning the Europa League means direct qualification to the CL and a trophy. Fourth means we still need to play a CL qualifier and no trophy.

    The decision is easy.

It really is important for the mindset not to lose. At Chelsea before the game that put a dent in Liverpool's title hopes, he also moaned about the schedule and opted to play the kids. Needless to say that in the end he just fielded Kalas....

Mourinho loves talking, i don't believe for a second that he's throwing away top 4. Finger's crossed that the Saints later on take something off Scouse.

The Celta game is over, they won't beat us 2:1 at Old Trafford, no chance whatsoever.

For those who didn't notice, Mourinho said explicitly: “the last match against Swansea was last our last chance to fight for top four.”
I can only see this as putting more pressure on Wenger.

I still think he will play his strongest team possible for the Celta Vigo game, he can't afford to do otherwise.

    Sure!

But that doesn't mean that today we wouldn't see something like that...

I just watched a VICE documentary about prison football in Uganda. The inmates used PL clubs as team names. Man Utd beat Arsenal.

Morgan S got plenty of chances.
In his first season he was a first team regular and he was pretty average. Not bad....just average. Good enough to play for a mid-table team like Southampton.
I remember this because after almost every game I'd go over to his performance thread and ask, "what did he do in this game"?
The usual answer I'd get is, "silent domination".
Now, for a midfielder to basically be absent for 80% of the game, is unacceptable.
For comparison, Kante is the best midfielder in the league, who is constantly making a nuisance of himself for the opponent. Some say that Kante is like playing with an extra man, because he covers so much ground. I'd say that Morgan S is about 60% of Kante...which is average and such a player has no place in a team which aspires to win the league.

Southampton was definitely his correct level and Jose knew this on his very first day on the job.

Think we will genuinely see kids played in these last few matches--he will want to know if he can use them next season, in particular Tuanzebe. He's a definite starter for me. Maybe even Pereira after his comments and just to troll Wenger. Willock also likely to get a start as our midfielders are all tired and too important and few to risk. Don't think Mitchell, McTominay or Olosunde are ready yet and are there just for the experience - maybe put on the shopping window shelf. I think he will be happy to draw this game by parking the bus or a smash and grab 1-0. Maybe this:
    Pereira
    Darmian Tuanzebe Smalling Blind
    Carrick
    Willock Pogba
    Mata Martial Rooney
