    Across the Universe....from Old Trafford.
Thought this myself, but he's never done it for United to my knowledge, although i know he plays there for Ecuador. It would mean Rafael coming in for his first start in ages which also doesn't seem likely. I think it's more likely we either rush back Jones or Blind to play there or just use Fellaini or Rooney and hope for the best.
van Gaal does not panic. I don't see him rushing anyone back.

We already know that Falcao and McNair are playing so the only option left is Shaw or Blind, and it's likely the former.

    DDG
    Valencia McNair Smalling Shaw
    Herrera Rooney Fellaini
    Mata Falcao Young
I reckon this but Young at LB and then Di Maria in for Young.

If Falcao is starting it either means we are back to the 5-3-2 or Rooney drops into midfield both of which are the worst possible systems to use IMO. I just don't want Rooney in midfield. Im still reasonably confident whoever plays and I hope Rooney proves me wrong and bosses the midfield if he plays there.

It depends on how bad they are i guess. Any news on the extent of their injuries, or was him ruling them out yesterday the end of it?

Josè wouldn't allow his Chelsea team to underestimate League 2 opposition!

But yeah, some key key players injured, and most importantly, just at the time everything was clicking.

    Infuriating.

Clearly it will be Smalling and McNair as CBs. Jones/Rojo/Evans out means except Blackett thats all we have.

No blind means a a hole in midfield and LB so Shaw will be back at LB and I imagine Fellaini dropping into Carricks role alongside Herrera, Mata going into a CAM/No.10 role behind Rooney and Di Maria playing as a RW ahead of Valencia and young continuing on the Left.

Trouble is a midfield 3 of Herrera, Fellaini and Mata will probably get dominated by Chelsea. Really uphill task. We are capable of still getting at least a point here. Bit of luck and some team fight and we could easily win this but boy its a tall ask.

    Come on lads.

I am confident of victory, I won't be happy with a loss or draw with the form we're in and the form they're in.

Just because key players are out does not destroy the philosophy. We have players who should also know how to play this system who can fit in.

I hope Rooney doesn't get shifted in to the midfield though; Gary Neville's analysis of his tactical performance on MNF shows how effective he can be up front and we need to commit their defenders.

I was really hyped for this game, but with all these injuries my excitement & expectations have dropped considerably.

I'd be delighted with a point.

Same here. What made it worse is that those injuries came out of nowhere really. Only Carrick left ("with a knock") during the game against City.

Strong rumours that Falcao is starting.

I was very confident we'd win prior to the injuries, I think we'll be doing well to draw now. Pressure is off anyway.

They happened during the game actually. Blind's injury was because of Kompany's tackle and Jones was taken off because of injury according to LVG. Rojo's happened like a day after too.

With the injuries we have I could see us moving back to the 3-5-2. Disappointing as we have recently found our form in the 4-3-3 with the players we had playing week in and week out. Would have been interesting to see how we performed at the bridge with that lineup.

    I think:
    -----------DDG----------
    Val-McNair-Smalling-Shaw
    ----------Fellaini---------
    ------Rooney-Herrera----
    Mata-----Falcao----Young

its a shame because without these latest injuries post city, i would be confident at getting a decent result here, but without carrick and a proper cb, i just feel we will be too light.

Yep, was confident last week but with the injuries I've almost accepted we'll lose here.

You could well be right. I think it's a mistake though.
We've already been forced to upset the defense and midfield.
If Rooney goes back, we've to change our striker.

The 3 behind the striker has been maybe our most effective area of the pitch this past month or so.
It's the one area we can leave alone today and I think we should. I'd prefer:

    ---Herrera--Rooney
    Mata---Fellaini----Young
    -----Wilson/Falcao

Yeah, that was based on the Falcao rumours. I'f I had to pick my best team I'd go:

    -----------DDG----------
    Val-McNair-Smalling-Shaw
    ----------Fellaini---------
    ------ADM---Herrera----
    Mata-----Rooney----Young

Cue a video of him at Atletico scoring a hat trick against them. When he was good...

He's played RM in the diamond, but that's as close as Valencia has gotten to a holding Mid for us IIRC...

Today is a big oppertunity for Falcao, he really should show what he is made of. Maybe his last chance to prove his Worth.
I think he's gone even if he scores a hat-trick
He has scored 4 goals all season.
There is more chance of me winning the lottery today than of him scoring a hat-trick.

For me Rooney is best as our lone striker (he should not be played in midfield). Followed by Fellaini. Then Wilson. Then RVP. Then Smalling. Then the strikers in our U21 team (whose names I dont even know). Then Falcao.

Normally, I am very positive about our results (I fully expected us to win every one of our last 6 games), but today, I will happily accept a draw (mainly due to the absence of Carrick AND Blind). We need at least 1 of them to play or "normal" game.

Hope the players won't lower their gear for this game feeling that we've done our job by beating Tottenham, Liverpool and City, and that this game is merely a bonus. There is no need to remind that winning today would be huge, not necessarily for this season as much as making a statement for the next. Beating the champions elect after beating the current champions would confirm our transformation under LVG.

Unfortunately, without Carrick, our job today will be a lot harder. I'm afraid that if we will get overrun in midfield we will stand no chance. Hopefully LVG will do one on Jose today. If Falcao will start, that would be his chance to have his Forlan moment and maybe redeem himself.

Sorry, but I can't see the logic of dropping Rooney back as a holding mid and starting Falcao and keeping Di Maria on the bench, even for what is in effect a meaningless game now.

Better to stick with the "philosophy" that has worked than to go back what didn't work.

Fellaini and Herrera can shield the back line better than Roo can. Our attacking threat has to be credible.

Unless Falcao has been amazing in training this week, shifting Roo back and starting Falcao is a recipe for a train wreck. Hopefully, these are just rumors out out there to feck with Jose's mind.

It's down to the mentality of the 11 on the pitch, we saw against PSG, the Chelsea players are capable of dropping off just like any other team. I remember that game, they kind of moped around the pitch and thought they won.

Nah it was deeper than that. You could see Jose screaming at hazard to stop going forward after they were up 1-0. Jose played very defensively and trued to win on away goals and it backfired. Just like it did against athletico last year.
