Please send the under 21s for this one.

In all seriousness, I'd be shocked if VDB doesn't start this.

    So I guess you won’t be watching?:smirk:
    Yes.

It’s rough enough catching PL games at 4 am here, I’m not wasting my time with the League Cup.

Half of our XI won the FAC, LC and EL, Pogba won a couple of Series A, the World Cup and played in a CL final. Mata won a CL with Chelsea, Cavani won a gazillion Ligure 1. The litmus test for this team is the league and CL, not second rate trophies like the LC, FAC and EL.

Call me spoiled if you want, 7 years without winning the league and 9 years since the last CL final is too long for Manchester United. This isn’t 1989.

Wonder if Everton will rotate too. We had better rotate for this otherwise might as well get rid of half the squad in January.

    Henderson
    Williams, Tuanzebe, Baily, Telles
    Matic, Pogba
    VDB
    Mata, Cavani, James

It would be tough since most have not played together but, it's the LC and having just a few days before LC who are in very good form, can't afford to go into that game with tired starters.

    11 changes a possibility?

    Henderson for DeGea
    Williams for Wan Bissaka
    Bailly for Maguire
    Tuanzebe for Lindelof
    Telles for Shaw
    Matic for Fred
    Pogba for McTominay
    Van de Beek for Bruno
    Mata for James
    Greenwood for Rashford
    Cavani for Martial

Guessing mostly large-scale rotation for this with us playing Leicester City on boxing day

    Henderson

    Williams Tuanzebe* Maguire Telles
    Matic
    van de Beek Pogba
    Mata
    Greenwood Cavani

*wasn’t on the bench today so maybe Bailly but not too keen on playing him
I’d be more than happy with that line up. Would be confident of winning. Squad depth looks pretty decent compared to this time last year.

Don't want to see Bruno or Rashford anywhere near the team...shouldn't even be on the bench. Hopefully they get given a complete rest.

It’s also not 1999. In fact it’s not anything except 2020. If you’re only interested in winning you can switch to another team as soon as it is clear they will win. That will enrich your enjoyment of the sport and of life itself.

This game reminds me of FM where you make 11 changes and pick up an achievement trophy for playing two different 11s two games.

I guess the bench from Leeds starts, along with Maguire at CB. Wouldn’t be surprised if Dan James keeps his place either.

Maybe not spoiled but have high expectations and I can respect that.

Win the PL is the primary goal I agree but as Jose said when he first joined Chelsea winning your first trophy gives the squad belief.

    Give Ighalo a game FFS!
WTF was the point in keeping him til January and probably paying him the same wage Kane earns at Spurs...what a joke.

I'd rotate the full starting eleven and take the risk, if we go out, we go out but at least we're giving the first team a rest before the tough game at weekend.

    Henderson
    Williams
    Telles/Shaw
    Axel T
    Bailly (if fit)
    Pogba
    Matic
    Fred
    Greenwood
    James
    Ighalo

Pellegri on the bench for his debut.

Ah yes, the classic glory hunter dig.

I have emotional ties to Manchester United through decades of supporting the club. Just because we are in a slump doesn’t mean I have to accept lowering the standard our finance and stature demand of us.

I didn’t care when Fergie lost to Leeds in the LC, or started Bebe in the FAC against Crawley at home and eked out a 1-0 win. And I’m not gonna change just because the fan base have somehow become content with finishing 3rd and got less than 70 points 3 out of last 4 seasons.

Exactly, this cup couldn't be more pointless. PL has too many fixtures AND we're now in Europa - fully happy to trust the non starters and just rest everyone. PL is everything right now.

As a backup - it's not really a joke. He was an insurance policy and he will be going back next month so there's no need to play him here. Just play Cavani

    No major changes please.

Ole needs to win a trophy. I hope last years feck up in the Cups was enough of a warning.

It will be between us, City or Tottehham for the cup. Winnable.
Ole needs to decide the team for saturday - then make minor tweaks it tomorrow's game.

    Obviously, Mctominay is out.

    Henderson on goal.
Wan Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles. No need to rest any of them.
Pogba, Matić, VDB in the middle.
    Mata, Greenwood, Cavani forward.

Vital that Fred, McT and Bruno don’t get even a single minute here. We’ll need their energy and quality to outplay one of the best midfields in the league in Leicester’s Ndidi, Tielemans and Maddison on Boxing Day. With that in mind, I’ll go:

    Deano
    Williams Tuanzebe Maguire Telles
    Matic
    VdB Pogba
    Greenwood Cavani James

I was about to say it’ll be a really hard game, and obviously it will be, but our depth is really impressive. Telles, Matic, VdB and Pogba are all probably the best backups in the world in their respective positions. Would include Maguire and Mason, but they aren’t backups of course.

    1-2 United, Greenwood X2

Replying to myself because I missed out VDB, he's got to start this one.

    Take out Fred.

    Edit....

    Forgot Mata

    The squads huge..

I wouldn't even have De Gea, Bruno or Rashford on the bench. Give them a week off. Would like to see Pellistri, Lingard (he needs to show he's fit so he can get a move in January), Mengi, Laird, Ighalo on the bench.

Can people stop with this needing a trophy bs when it comes this season at least? Just play kids we can't lose any first team players down to injuries in this hectic season.

Really nice finally having a deep squad. I reckon Maguire and James will be the only ones keeping their place. VDB Mata Pogba and Matic will be involved as well. Ole and the squad need a trophy and this is the easiest one to win, go for it while resting our crucial players. give up on the FA cup and the Europa, focus on the league and the easiest trophy to win.

That would be perfection if after a season of not having to pay out/go to any games us season ticket holders could just cruise in for the final at Wembley 20mins down the road from me :)

Obviously we'll go out before we get there now I've said that!

The eternal mickey mouse cup dilemma. "Good chance to rest key players in busy christmas period" vs "good chance to win some silverware and boost morale".

Genuinely can't decide where I sit but I think I'd be more annoyed to injure bruno and win, than lose with the U23s. Worst case scenario is obviously play the full squad and lose.
