    Group A: CSKA Moskva (6 points) v Benfica (0)*, Basel (6) v Manchester United (12)

    • Man. United will qualify (as group winners) with a draw. Their progress will be confirmed if CSKA do not win.
    • Basel will be through if they win and CSKA lose due to better head-to-head.
    • Benfica must win and hope Basel lose to stay in contention for a top-two place. If they fail to win they will be confirmed in fourth.
So, CSKA faces Benfica almost three hours earlier than us and, if the Russians don't win, we're qualified even before starting to play. Mourinho might decide on a different team if that happens. Anyone knows how earlier do the teams have to be officially declared?
Teams are announced at least 1 hour before kick off. But Jose would have selected the team before that, so I doubt it'll have an impact on the team selection.

If we get a draw, is top spot assured or just top two?

Apart from us, the race between CSKA and Basel for 2nd is quite interesting in our group. Don't think Benfica will make it, its' a tall order for them.

    That’s correct per UEFA site

Draw wins the group, we can rest players in both remaining fixtures and still finish first IMO. I don't think neither CSKA or Basel win both of their remaining fixtures anyway, at least not by the margin it would take to surpass us.

I'd say leave de Gea and Valencia at home, probably put Smalling, Pogba, and Lukaku on the bench - maybe Matic too. Would have been a nice game to bring Carrick back in, but it'll probably be the final group game at this rate when he's back.

Might be a bit of a shaky defence if we're putting out a CB pairing of Lindelof and Rojo, so it could be more defensive fullbacks in Darmian and Blind who get the nod with perhaps a midfield three of Herrera, McTominay and Fellaini. Zlatan upfront and some pace in the team with two from Lingard / Mkhitaryan / Rashford / Martial.

    Romero
    Darmian Lindelof Rojo Blind
    Herrera McTominay
    Fellaini
    Lingard Ibrahimovic Martial

I do think Jose will probably field a slightly stronger side, however. Maybe Young on either flank, Smalling, Matic etc.

I think Mourinho wants to win all Champions League games and top the group with 18 points, just for confidence. So, I'm not expecting a second team in any of the remaining games. CSKA at home could feature plenty of non starters, though.

Nice to have a game where there isn't much pressure. I am expecting to see the below start. The other 3 places are up for grabs. Potentially could see Tuanzebe, Mctominay also feature
    De Gea
    Lindelof
    Blind
    Rojo
    Lingard
    Miki
    Fellaini
    Herrera

Some comments on Simon's tweet mentioned Bailly was actually present, according to the official twitter account photo :

Don't know if these are new or old though.

Would like to see Zlatan given 45 mins, and Lukaku another start to try and get another goal to keep his momentum coming. Likewise with Pogba, give him time and sub off around 60 mins or so.

    Romero
    Darmian - Smalling - Rojo - Blind
    Pogba - Herrera
    Mkhi - Zlatan - Lingard
    Lukaku

I would like to see Shaw get a start, along with Tuanzebe. Lindelöf for Rojo after about 70 minutes, also give Zlatan 30 minutes or so for Lukaku. Problem is, when everyone is fit, that Fellaini needs to play, McTominay needs to play and so on. Anyway:

    De Gea
    Darmian - Tuanzebe - Rojo - Shaw
    Herrera - Blind
    Mata - Mikhi - Lingard
    Lukaku

Bench: Romero, Young, Lindelöf, McTominay, Pogba, Martial, Zlatan

Need to go on a run in the league, don't need to risk any of our first team players for this game. Play the ones coming back from injury and those who need to play to find some form.
Here's what I'd like to see.

    Romero.
    Darmian. Lindelof. Rojo. Blind. Shaw.
    Herrera. Fellaini.
    Mikhi. Ibra. Lingard.

What's the update on Bailly? Would like to have him and Rojo fit and playing most games in December.

Give Dave a rest, give Matic a rest, give Valencia a rest. I wouldn´t even put them on the plane.
I´d play Pogba, Ibra as long as they are able to according to their fitness level (perfect opportunity). I´d play Lukaku for maybe 60/70 mins, he can continue finding his form. Give some playtime to the ones who need it, talking about Rojo, Shaw, Lindelöf, Herrera.
All in all we should try to win without injuries, I´d be happy with a 2-0.

I would like Shaw to get an opportunity but he might not get a chance.

    De Gea
    Young Lindelof Rojo Shaw
    Fellaini Tuanzebe Pogba
    Mkhi Lukaku Lingard

Bench: Romero, Blind, Smalling, Matic, McTominay, Rashford, Ibra.

Ibra to come on after 60 minutes.

I like the look of that team for this game, based on the hope that it should be a fairly comfortable fixture. A lot of ball playing quality in that back 4.

With the winter fixtures approaching, there would be no better time than to give some game time to Shaw, McTominay and Tuanzebe.

Would Lukaku be rested just immediately after he just scored a goal which could help him get back his form? Mourinho might think he needs to start and score again to get himself in gear.

Though of course, I think this game is ideal for Zlatan to start, if he is fit.

Aside from Jones being injured (obviously) that's pretty much a fully fit squad. No excuses, we need to push on now and give City a run for their money.

McTominay should hopefully see some gametime this evening, along with Ibra and Rojo.

Matic shouldn’t play again in the CL until the knockout stages! Jose loves to play his faves until they get injured and missing for a month.

A loss is no big deal so just rest Matic.

I don't want him to play, but let's not forget Matic didn't even play in the international break, so he already got a solid 2 weeks rest.

Might Romero get a start here? Has he played at all this season? I can't remember.
