I think we'll see Maguire and/or Shaw start. Also, I am guessing we'll rest Eriksen, maybe for Fred. Ronaldo also to start with Martial still out.

    DDG
    Dalot Maguire Martinez Shaw
    Casemiro Fred

why should they start? we’ve been miles better defensively once they were replaced. if we go 3 or 4 up, sure bring them on. but we shouldnt be risking points here.

We need to start banging those chances we create. Always feels like we would rue those missed chances. High time we get a good start and have a relaxed 2nd half but that’s never the case with United

Because we are playing Arsenal 3 days later? IMO not wise to push Varane and Eriksen like this, especially at this point in the season. ETH said the CBs would use a rotation. I'm not saying the I think Magoo and Shaw should start, I'm just saying I think they will.

I think Maguire may well start as we really need Varane for Sunday.

Surely not Shaw though? He’s looked out of condition and uninterested in the minutes he’s played so far, and Malacia seems to have oodles of energy. Let’s hope Erik has given him a boot up his ample arse.

Varane needs to be managed so bring in Maguire. I expect Eriksen and McTominay to drop out for Fred and Casemiro. Ronaldo in for Elanga. The whole point of having squad is using it, particularly when it comes to Varane.

But I think Ten Hag will need to rotate. The match against Arsenal is on the 4th and it's a much harder task than tomorrow. I don't think he can play the same guys every 3 or 4 days. They'll burn out.

I think it is best to build on the team that got 6 on 6. It is too early to start shuffling around. Better build some momentum now that the stars seem to align for the first time in years.

    Is Maddison out for them?

We should (we never do except pool in recent memory) try to have a super fast start and get a couple of goals early. That way we can be comfortable later in the game and take off some players early and have them fresh for Arsenal.

Important match. If we can get the win, we could get back up into the top 6, and be within striking distance of the top. A result here will be massive.

Agree with this, but he might save Casemiro too and revert to McFred (hope not)

Bah. He was absolutely terrible in the 4-2, but he was clearly nowhere near fit. Ole’s Moyes-like insistence on overplaying injured players so he could always have his “best 11” was the most annoying thing about his reign.

Every match is an important match.

Therefore Maguire and Shaw should be kept away from the starting XI.

Bring them on if we are cruising at least 5 nil. Anything less than that and they could feck it up.

That backline we get slaughtered. Maguire should not be playing under any circumstance.

I think Varane definitely will be sat to ensure he's ready for the weekend. Maguire is an option and I would like to see that but it is risky to start inserting him already after his benching. Maybe rebuild him longer on the basics and wait until his confidence is on the rise.

McTominay isn't going to get any credit for his play since the Brentford game but I'll give it to him. He has played very well and responded the right way to the challenge by the new manager. The problem is I think they will want to rest Ericksen which will be a good idea. So which player is Case more comfortable with. Probably Fred, who also gives us strong defense paired with him.

Christiano is not going to sniff the field vs a faster team like Arse. So this looks like a good game to feature him and have a gameplan to funnel some chances his way. Say what you want about old number 7 but he can finish. Getting him in there might jump start him and if he isn't fully bought in and playing hard you pull him and go from there. But giving him a look feels right to me in this game. For Sancho and Rash this is a big game. Things change after this one with Antony's addition so both of them will almost surely be out there firing off and giving their all. If they're smart.

This is a tough match for us. Leicester have lost some close games and are playing hard. This is precisely the type of matchup that would give this group big problems in the past so it will be fun to see how the boys respond. Can they outwork these clowns and put them down even while starting a non-optimum lineup? I hope so.

They are unlucky they faced Arsenal and Chelsea this early in the season.

I don't pay attention to their current league position. I do, however, noticed that Leicester have scored goals in almost every game starting from April last season. They are dangerous going forward and very capable of scoring goals.

Why are people here suggesting putting Maguire and Shaw in the starting lineup? Just because we play Arsenal soon after? Fatigue shouldn't be an issue this early in the season. I'm sure the players will find that extra motivation and energy when they play Arsenal.

I think there will be a few changes with the Arsenal game on Sunday but not too many. 3, maybe 4 max. We need to focus on winning this game first before thinking about the one on Sunday.

    Sancho Eriksen Elanga

Nah - we need to start our strongest 11 and so neither of them should be anywhere near the starting team.

I don’t know why people get so fixated on rotating? Especially at this stage when we have a little bit of momentum.

Liverpool have a shorter gap than us between fixtures but I guarantee the same back 4 and front 3 as tonight start on Saturday.

Id be gobsmacked if our new Captain, fresh from a game-winning goal, is on the bench in favour of Elanga and Eriksen.

Some of the team selections on here are bonkers.

Worrying too much about Arsenal by tinkering/resting/rotating will back fire.

Play the strongest team possible! United are nowhere near the consistency level where they can be resting players.

Let’s get 3 points against Leicester and worry about the weekend afterwards.

I’m still in the dread zone I can’t shake it off just yet. I’m hoping afew more games unbeaten we put these ghosts to bed!!
Yeah, same. It has been such a shit show for so long that, even with ETH here and some good new players, I continue to approach each match in a state fear.

Took the day off for the pool game so that I could watch it. Going to have to time my lunch break in a way that I can watch one half of this one. Which one should I watch, first or second? Leaning first. Bummed that I have a meeting tomorrow in office so I can’t WFH.

One game at a time - rotation should be for player that are either tired or for tactical reasons, not to rest them for a game in the future, especially this early in the season.

Casemeiro comes in because he is a true DM and McT is just a fill in. Ronaldo should come in for Elanga or Rashford because Rashford as a CF in game that will not have room behind makes zero sense. Fred should come in for Eriksen who has run a lot, think it would be good for him to be available off the bench for this game. We are light on attacking options as it is - so he'd be good to come in for a Bruno or Fred.

None of this thinking about Arsenal. When the Arsenal match comes up, it is who performed well, who didn't and who is blowing wind at that point.

Maybe ETH will use all 5 subs early. Play the best XI, then rest 5 players if we are up a couple goals. Only caveat would be Varane, I can’t tell if he’s going to break if we use him regularly. If Lindelof is ready, play him. Especially if Leicester are dire against us, it will be good for our real starting XI to play together while handing out a beating.

Win and we’re back above the scousers!

We should try our best to have a high tempo in this game, especially up front to harry their defence. They have been calamitous at times this year and conceded poor goals. Put them under pressure early. We won't do that with Ronaldo so we should start with Rashford up top and Elanga and Sancho.

If they are missing Maddison that's a huge boost. We just need to ensure Tielemans doesnt get a hold of the game. Leicester don't seem to have found the right formation yet this season and Vardy seems woefully out of form. Add to that the defensive line has looked fragile this season and we should have success if we do to them what others do to us and put them under pressure so they make mistakes.
Unfortunately we already paid them 90m to un-harry their defense. :wenger:

Players will certainly be rested today, but it wont be wholesale changes.

I see Ronaldo coming in for Rashford and Rashford swapping with Sancho for the wing positions.

Casemiro will come in for McTominay and Fred for Eriksen.

Defence i possibly see Shaw coming in for Mallacia.

Shaw and Maguire will have to feature at some point but I'd prefer to wait until Cass and Antony are in the team.

Such a massive game this. We cannot afford for the gap to increase between us and the top of the table. Win this and we are in 5th, 6 points behind Arsenal. No point talking about Arsenal game if we cannot get the job done today. Nothing but a win will do
