All season I have been so confident about finishing in the top 4 but today at work, someone mentioned Newcastle as in the city and then it struck me how poorly we have been playing this season and I said to my self for the first time, we are not going to finish in the top 4. I don't think we will win this match. I think Arsenal could possibly batter us, but obviously they have to get past De Gea which we have to bear in mind is possible. At the Emirates, we were the worst performing team to play there this season. We were so lucky, it was quite unbelievable. Valencia smashing a completely inaccurate cross/shot deflecting off someone while the 'keeper was injured.
They wont batter us and the bolded part is an exaggeration.

One of the rare matches I'm confident, all my gooner friends are shitting it. They know they play better football than us but that we have the football and players to beat them.

I think we will lose on Monday, but I will not be too worried, if we do. I am more concerned about the EPL fixtures. It is all in LvG's hands.

On the one hand, I'm thinking we're being a bit too cocky in all this, they can't keep losing against us.

On the other hand, I'm thinking it's Arse.

Maybe playing against Sanchez will bring out the best in Di Maria.
Indeed it is, they better bring lube!

Are you not concerned that losing would have a hugely detrimental effect on the team's already clearly fragile confidence? Personally, I think it's a must-win (or at least a must-not-lose) given the boost it would give Arsenal in the run in for the Top 4 race.

That, combined with the insufferable gloating of Arsenal's fans that would ensue, make this a massive game. If we win this with something resembling a convincing performance, the constant media criticism would be quietened and the club could really build some momentum for the tough fixture list coming up.

    Just my 2 pence worth...

Not really sure that a loss would bear a hugely detrimental effect. Our fixtures ahead are as tough as they come, so having to play another 2-3 games in the FA cup (in case of replays) could be that very extra burden whichc may cost us top 4 spot. For me this year is quite unique and at this moment in time, I would not be overly concerned about a defeat in the FA cup, be it against Arsenal, City or MK Dons. Dropping points against the Saints at the week-end, however, would be a major blow to our top 4 hopes.

Spurs ;) But yeah, you are spot on. The league matches are far more important, however I would still like to do Arsenal and win the cup! It's been a long time coming.

Huge game this, even if it's the FA cup and not the premier league. Could make or break our confidence.

    De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Carrick Blind
    Di Maria Herrera Young
    Rooney
Agree, especially going into the run of big games we have coming up, a win here would see us go into that period full of belief, which counts for a lot.

I like your team. I'd love to see Rafael for Valencia but I'll not hold my breath.

Shaw in for Evans with Rojo moving to CB should be the only change from our starting line-up against Newcastle.

A win of any sort would be a big psychological boost going into some tough league fixtures.

Is the semi final draw before kick-off?
    Straight after, at around 9.45.

    ----------De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Rojo Shaw
    -------Carrick Blind
    --Di Maria Herrera Young
    ----------Rooney

Januzaj, Falcao, Mata, Fellaini, Jones, Rafael, Valdes

Stifle and play on the break even though at home. 2-1

    Bit harsh on Welbzinho.

I'm hoping we line up like this:
    Szczesny

    Bellerin Mertesacker Koscielny Gibbs

    Coquelin
    Ramsey Cazorla

    Ozil Giroud Sanchez
Chamberlain or Welbeck starting is fairly likely, but that probably means a far too attacking midfield with Ozil and Cazorla. Either way, we'll likely sit deep and play on the counter. That's worked great in some games (City being the obvious example), but if the ball doesn't stick with Giroud then we can have long spells not even getting out of our own half. I'm picturing a game where both teams take turns to dominate possession and play on the counter, with the team with the fewest defensive mistakes winning. We're guaranteed to gift you at least a goal, so I'm just hoping the favour(s) get returned...

Playing Rooney as a lone striker will take away from his defensive abilities in my opinion, he won't hustle for the ball as much and we need that hustle against Arsenal

No Falcao please. I have no idea why I keep seeing him in people's lineups. Not only is it unlikely that he'll play, he doesn't offer anything anymore when he does.

I'm guessing it's because big games like this often spark star players into life.

As long as Carrick is selected the rest of the midfield combo is irrelevant. We look too far open when we lose possession these days, something that doesn't happen often when Carrick is playing

I think Walcott, Welbeck or Oxlade-Chamberlain for Özil would look more dangerous.

Watch out for the early freaky goal. I have an uneasy hunch there's a draw in the tea leaves here, but maybe that's just after watching Liverpool/Blackburn.

Think that's bad? An arsenal fan who covers Arsenal youth teams and watches us train said we lined up like this in our last training session

    Szczesny

    Bellerin-Mertesacker-Koscielny-Monreal

    Ramsey-Cazorla

    Oxlade Chamberlain-Ozil-Welbeck

    Giroud

With Coquelin and Sanchez on the bench.

Thankfully Wenger would never do that and it will probably be Coquelin in for Cazorla and Sanchez in for Welbeck

I think LVG will revert back to Flexi - 5-3-1-1.
No point playing the Arse on the ground.
Probably sending the wing-backs down and cross to Felliani
to create havoc and the loose balls will be attacked by the bullish Rooney.
Carrick can cover the center back and also move up to mid-field when in procession.
Blind to harass their creative midfielder.

    ...............................De Gea...............................
    Valencia.......Smalling....Carrick.....Rojo.......Young
    ...........Herrera..........Blind.........De Maria............
    ................................Felliani...............................
