Shouldn’t have thought we have a cat in hell’s chance of getting him back if he’s an LvG man.
Dave didn't get on with him. If Dave leaves we might be able to get him, but otherwise what's the point if Dave didn't care for him? Unless the club puts their foot down.

Alvarez was drafted in by Mourinho to keep Dave 'happy'. It seems Dave wanted his mate there with him.

Looking at the GD, we need to win by two clear goals today, if we are being realistic then we cannot feasibly hope for more than that. That would put us level on points with Chelsea but four goals behind. We then have two very gentle fixtures to try and run some scores up. It is doable.

I don’t think this team has the will or desire.

That’s absolutely damning when you think about it. Special privileges or what...

Like I said, the tail has wagged the dog for too long at United. We need to set up the club in the best way possible, with the manager / eventual DoF calling the shots. Not some shithawk players with an overinflated sense of self worth.

If players don’t like it then they must go.

It’s when you realise that Lingard is 27 that it becomes truly troubling. He’s the dictionary definition of a man-child. I know it sounds draconian but sack the fecking clothing line off – you haven’t won anything of note.
Without even looking at that clothing line, I have a pretty good idea of the style of his products

He is affiliated with a retail brand called JD Sports here in the UK. They are associated with chav culture, which says it all

Yup. Truth be told we've made a lot of poor choices when it comes to backroom staff. Starting with Moyes ditching everyone.
This is the problem with changing manager every two to three years and not having a Director of Football...

So you are suggesting he doesn't put enough training in?
Some players are more skillful with the ball at their feet. It is only been (over) highlighted now as he has made a few mistakes this season.
No not at all. I am suggesting that he'd do better with a coach who challenges him rather than regards him as a mate. i'm obviously not party to what actually goes on; it just seems that he was improving all the time under the first few coaches (yes, even under Moyes and Chris Woods) but levelled off when Hoek was fired and is now actually declining. Correlation =/= causation, but it seems a fair assumption.

    We need to win 4-0.

if we can score early maybe the floodgates will open, but with our current confidence I’m not sure it’ll happen.

Let’s hope we get the same effort from the last match and our strikers need to find their shooting boots

I don’t think we need to claw back all the GD today. Be realistic and aim for a solid 2-0. We have a very ‘easy’ final two fixtures which is when we need to try and make hay.

This. If former merchant banker Ed Woodward were actually like the merchant bankers I've known, i.e. a ruthless dispassionate cnut, this wouldn't have been allowed to happen.

That’s true, but I don’t trust our ability to score lots of goals even against the bottom teams right now.

As you say though the 3 points is a MUST.

So much this. The club used to be bigger than any single element (player or manager) but since SAF it’s all turned on it’s head.

Look and examine the extremities such as pizzagate and the ways sAF handled it. It all turned out favorable to the club and fans in the end.

We need to go back to that mentality when running this club and as much as I hate to say it the changes have to come from the top I.e get rid of EW first and get a DoF.

Yeah, three points is imperative, because there’s also the very real chance of Chelsea dropping some points in the final games.

I personally think we have fecked it up, but there is still a feint glimmer of hope.

Ed's mistake was just leaving it up to the managers and having a hands off approach. He was in a sticky situation as it was after the Madrid debacle and he would have been lynched if Dave wanted to go. It's all a feck up. Anyway, let's hope
Ole gets a proper GK coach in.

We can't defend and score anywhere, they can't defend and score away. 0-1, Hazard solo goal.

4-0 ? To do that we'd need to have at least 4 attempts on target. When was the last time that happened? I honestly can't remember.

We struggle to score one goal and win a game. No GD hopes.

For now, any win will do. I don't have much hope in the team's abilities, but every losing streak eventually comes to an end and I believe we are due a win somehow. So keeping my fingers crossed.

My " this" was more the general tail-wagging-dogism that's gone on in recent years than that particular case, but it's a decent example. The professionalism that Dave displayed when he came back into the team after being dropped and the fax debacle makes me wonder whether he isn't really a snowflake at all and actually thrives on a bit of tough love.

Why M atkinson as ref ? This guy always seems to ref A utd v chelsea game. And usually were on the end of dodgy calls.

But it's a game we need to get result, I think we can do it, Gunners Chelsea man Utd, think are on same level.

Yes you could be right about the tough love part.. I don't know.

I really think Ole should have given him a break weeks ago. That may have increased his hunger to come back and do well? We could have made an excuse up that he has some personal issue and the club is giving him time off, instead of just letting people think he's been dropped.

You remember his first season? It was tumultuous - and SAF took him out of the spotlight for a bit. It obviously didn't harm him so Ole sticking him constantly in the pressure situation I personally believe is not helping his mental issues.

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
Unfortunately it seems Ole has bottled it in terms of giving some youth players a chance. Not just in this game but overall. We get absolutely nothing out of Sanchez, Mata or Lingard from the bench. There's no pace or exuberance to punish tired legs or stretched defences. I know people will say they're not ready or whatever, but I don't think we'd have missed anything if they were on the bench in place of our "star names".

It's the pressure of United. He's desperate to get top four and is afraid. Just a human reaction. Probably feels it's safer to stick with these guys who might come good instead of the unknown in the youth.

Personally, I would have gone with the youth but I'm not in his position and don't feel that enormous pressure.

Let's hope these lads show up!

Unfortunately this game is too important to blood kids in. However it we don't win today he has absolutely no excuse not to play them in the last two games.

Yup. It’s not like Ole has been afraid to drop others that he clearly rates based on their initial performances for him, but have gone off since (Matić, Martial).

I’d like to see Lukaku and Rashford both starting today.

    2-1.

I don’t know the ins and outs.

I’m pretty sure that he has a mate for a goalkeeping coach while the club hasn’t officially appointed someone in that capacity.

Doesn’t seem right to me and people will clearly ask questions when DDG has been as shambolic as he has.

It’s only started to be highlighted in the last month, but he’s been crap all season truth be told.
Shambolic and crap are two words never associated with DDG, hyperbole would be how I would describe those comments.

    Romero
    Darmian Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    McTominay Fred Pogba
    Sanchez Lukaku Rashford

Subs: De Gea, Dalot, Jones, Pereira, Mata, Martial, Greenwood

Don't envy Ole having to pick a front three... Maybe a 3-5-2 with Dalot in for one of them instead.

    What I would play:
    De Gea
    Young Lindelof Smalling Shaw
    Herrera McTominay Pogba
    Lukaku Rashford Sanchez

This won’t be the team though.

Herrera McTominay Pogba midfield has to start, absolutely fecking has to.

    De Gea
    Dalot Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    Herrera McTominay Fred
    Pogba
    Rashford Martial
Not that I particularly want to start Martial, but even garbagetial is better than Lukaku, Lingard or Sanchez. At least he can scare full backs a little.

Huge huge game, especially as Arse look likely to lose today.

If we win by around 2 goals, the GD advantage Chelsea has becomes 4, with us having to play Huddersfield and Cardiff last.

Think a win is unlikely but if we do manage it will be huuuge for us next season.

Almost like players will feel the physical strain of a long and though season, and immense pressure to get to top4. Everyone are fumbling matchballs left and right these days, its not just us. Everyone are sucking excpet for City and Liverpool who are just in another league currently.

Have to give it to Wolverhampton though, easily team of the season for me.
