Rooney will score a couple and buy himself another 10 matches to kill our counter attacks and telegraph everything he does.

He's not our current penalty taker. His only chance of scoring a couple is if CSKA's bus is late and we play on empty pitch for 30 minutes. Even then we'll probably pass the ball around the 40 yards and Rooney will miss every chance.

Can see this been another snorefest.

I will predict a close game 1-0 or 2-1 with very few actual chances created.

Rooney to score though and the media to proclaim he is back, only for him to turn to shit again the next match.

Also first time posting in a mains thread, only been here since 2010!

We need to win this one, and I just hope that LVG shows a bit of faith in his team and rotate some players.

We need to try something else in order to adress our lack of attacks, to play higher, with a better tempo, or penetration.

I'm a bit sick of this boring game, when we have some players who can clearly attack

    ----------------------------------De Gea--------------------------------
    Jones---------------------Smalling------Blind---------------------Rojo
    ----------------------------------Carrick--------------------------------
    Mata----------------------Herrera------Rooney------------------Young
    -----------------------------------Martial--------------------------------

    But I guess we'll get

    ----------------------------------De Gea--------------------------------
    Young--------------------Smalling------Blind---------------------Rojo
    --------------------------Morgan--------Bastian-----------------------
    Mata------------------------------Herrera-----------------------Martial
    ------------------------------------Rooney------------------------------

You think a midfield 3 of rooney/herrera and carrick will bring us closer to scoring goals ?

Feck rooney in midfield, after last year I never want to see that again.

Someone in another thread said that Fergie, with this squad, would have two strikers up top, flying wingers, an attacking central midfielder and two full-backs bombing down the flank.

    So....

    De Gea
    Valencia - Smalling - Jones - Young
    Lingard - Schneiderlin - Herrera - Memphis
    Rooney - Martial
I think CSKA would score if we lined up like that, but I'd love to see how that sort of starting 11 might work going forward. Surely we'd get a couple ourselves? God, two up top, those were the days!

United will score a goal. Maybe more than one! And they will win.

Fergie stopped playing like when he realised it would no longer work in Europe.

Christ, now Van Gaal has to reverse football back to the 90s.

Tuanzebe, who was on the bench at the weekend, is involved while Phil Jones and Memphis Depay are doing some running on an adjacent pitch.

Confident this one will not end 0-0.

    But:

Rooney will score a couple and buy himself another 10 matches to kill our counter attacks and telegraph everything he does.
This I would not bet against.

Its still a CL group game so the chances are it will be dull, but I think the players will be desperate to put the last few games behind them and show some attacking intent.

Schneiderlin possibly out? Going to wait for the presser, but it could be a blessing in disguise. I rate him and he's done good, but I'd be surprised if LvG plays Carrick and Schweinsteiger again. This means we may forgo the two holding midfielder in favour of a more attacking player.

Hopefully Herrera is played deeper, with Rooney behind Martial and Lingard/Young on the wing.

There is only one somewhat positive with Schinderlin being out and that is Herrera going as a number 8, Rooney to 10 and marital finally up front.

Play Carrick/Schweini as a holding mid, Herrera and Pereira as shuttlers, Young and Mata on the wings, and Martial up front. Pls.

I feel so indifferent to watching United at the moment. I couldn't watch the Palace game and I wasn't bothered. I have never felt like that before.

Be unbalanced, Schwein & Herrera would get over runned. Carrick is fit and will slide in there next Schwein and with Herrera number 10 and most likely Rooney up top...

Welcome to my world. A few years ago, you'd have to kill me to miss a United game. These days I can only be bothered when I have nothing else to do.

Both sides have to win right? I mean CSKA will still want to try and qualify and after there last few results against Manchester sides, they won't be sitting back parking the bus.

There will be goals in this one.
